Kept your jobs on the same hour or even done better out of coronavirus?
DP has but I know many who have lost jobs or had hours reduced.

I'm a private English teacher. I have more hours this academic year than 2019.

Some classes in-person, some on zoom.

DH is a translator, his work hasn't been affected. We both know we're phenomenally lucky and are saving like demons for a 'just in case' future!

I live in a different country to my family and haven't seen anyone since last Christmas. Doubt we'll see anyone until summer, I nknow I won't be going anywhere til then.

So, swings and roundabouts.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/12/2020 18:16

More clients now due to pandemic (private therapist) - probably not a surprise

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/12/2020 18:16

I have.

Support Worker for adults with LD. Paid hourly. Lots of cover needed as other staff furloughed/isolating. Could opt out, but the guys I look after need me.

The last six months or so I've earnt the most I've ever earnt.

However, I am totally exhausted.

LadyCatStark · 06/12/2020 18:18

I’m WFH but my hours and wages are the same.
DH is WFH but his hours have done through the roof and he’s paid a salary so it’s around the same.
We’re very, very lucky.

RosePetalss · 06/12/2020 18:20

Best our company has ever done, but also the hardest we have ever worked been non stop with no give anywhere.
Feel sorry for people/companies that have struggled this year as this could easily of been us.

frosted232 · 06/12/2020 18:21

Retail worker so yes I've been lucky to keep my job and my usual wage. I'm salaried so not much opportunity to earn more money but all my team that are hourly paid have been earning a lot more, they've earned every single penny though and many of them have had no choice due to their household income going down when other family members have been furloughed or made redundant.

MynephewR · 06/12/2020 18:22

Both work in a restaurant. We were both off work (furloghed at 80%) from March - August then back to normal hours until November. During November I was not working at all and getting 80% furlough pay and DH was working about half his usual hours doing takeaways and being topped up with furlough at 80 % for the rest. Now we are both back at work but it's really quiet so not doing our usual hours, thankfully we still get topped up with furlough. Frankly, at this point, we are just thankful to both still have our jobs. We know we are hanging on by a thread.

ramblingsonthego · 06/12/2020 18:23

Got made redundant this week.

gillianan · 06/12/2020 18:23

housing construction and pharma in my household - which has stayed the same throughout.

MinnieMountain · 06/12/2020 18:23

I was furloughed for 10 weeks during the first lockdown. Now we’re manic. I’m a conveyancing solicitor.

Nothing changed for DH. He’s an actuarial contractor.

yeOldeTrout · 06/12/2020 18:24

I thought it was covid made my hours reduce, but now suspect sneaky new boss behaviour, that he is keeping hours back to employ someone else. Kind of too late for me to raise a fuss. I suppose I thought sneaky-boss was like this, but you may not know until you see it. I had very delayed contracts due to covid, that is not sneaky-boss fault.

isseywith4vampirecats · 06/12/2020 18:24

2 jobs one hospitality so furloughed on both lockdowns on 80% wages but job still there at the moment, 2nd job charity fundraiser on ebay 1st lockdown furloughed on 80% wages this last lockdown due to having a few days notice WFH on same hours and wages at the moment job still there

emmathedilemma · 06/12/2020 18:26

Yes (and appreciate I'm fortunate), still full time, full pay and benefits (thought the car allowance might get dropped), working from home, same clients and commissions and future workload still looking good. We furloughed a handful of "admin and support services" type staff and I know one has been made redundant from our office but on the whole we've carried on as normal.

oopsiedaisy2 · 06/12/2020 18:28

Yep. Same job, same hours just from home which means I kind of have no escape as I find it hard to switch off however I am so grateful for having a job and security of pay as well as the flexibility when they kids have to isolate etc

SupaTrooper · 06/12/2020 18:29

I'm a supply teacher. I've never been busier, mostly covering for teachers who are isolating.

I'm currently covering for a teacher whose wife is having an operation and their household has to isolate for two weeks.

PinGwyn · 06/12/2020 18:29

Both key workers here so working as normal throughout with extra hours to cover staff who were isolating.

As nackered, exhausted and stressed as we've been juggling everything I know we've been lucky.

I really feel for those who've lost out or been furloughed - the financial and emotional strain must be awful for many especially at this time of year.

filka · 06/12/2020 18:29

I'm not in the UK, but got a job in Feb 2020 just before COVID really ramped up - but it's in international freight forwarding that just hasn't stopped. Busier than ever.

Strangedayindeed · 06/12/2020 18:30

Both DP and I unaffected and been promoted (so far- who knows what next year will bring?)

PurBal · 06/12/2020 18:31

I'm in the same situation as I was. DH got a 20% pay rise at work. We are very very fortunate.

PurBal · 06/12/2020 18:32

We are both WFH now though.

mbosnz · 06/12/2020 18:33

DH same hours, just working from home. I actually got a full-time job, during corona, having been out of work for two years. . . never saw that coming!

Brighterthansunflowers · 06/12/2020 18:34

Kept my job (same hours) so far but being made redundant next year. Nothing to do with brexit or covid, just bad senior management

Camomila · 06/12/2020 18:37

DH is a key worker wfh
I was on mat leave so was skipped out of the redundancy consultations as they were 'points' based.

thenightsky · 06/12/2020 18:43

I'm retired but do agency work in the NHS. No change for me really.

DH provides telecoms services to business, so is in demand.

DD works in the fancy dress industry and is clinging on with fingertips so I guess we are going to be helping her out by paying her mortgage sooner or later.

Bargebill19 · 06/12/2020 18:44

Kept job, pay rise, but keep being asked to do even more hours. Cleaner.
