Kept your jobs on the same hour or even done better out of coronavirus?
DP has but I know many who have lost jobs or had hours reduced.

I work in IT Marketing. Kept my job, wfh, officially same hours - but the pressure has gone through the roof and the hours have been soo long. Regularly 10-11 hours with planned lunches being used to catch up on work inbetween calls/zooms...

I know I am one of the lucky ones - but it doesn't always feel that way right now!

Marmite27 · 07/12/2020 18:18

My actual working hours have changed to allow me more flexibility for childcare. But I’m on 100% of hours for 100% of wages. Same for DH. We could really have done with one of us being furloughed tbh. 80% without nursery fees would be more than I was netting pre-March. But it is what it is, and we’re both knackered. I have two weeks off at Christmas and I can’t wait!

tommyhoundmum · 07/12/2020 18:36

I am sorry to read about people who have been made redundant.

I'm retired and life has not changed for me and my young ward.

JacobReesMogadishu · 07/12/2020 18:42

My hours and pay have stayed the same. Dh has had his hours and pay reduced. Dd has had her hours and pay reduced and is worried she’s about to lose her job.

RaspberryCola · 07/12/2020 18:57

Both kept ours, mine is very steady work anyway (self employed accounting stuff) and husband is a sales exec in logistics. Both able to work from home in industries that are ’essential’, so pretty covid proof. Friends in hospitality and the arts not fared so well at all Sad

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 07/12/2020 18:59

I work for a courier company and am contracted part time. I've pretty much been able to double my hours (or more some weeks) due to Covid as we're so so busy and DH is working from home so can watch the kids.

FelicisNox · 07/12/2020 18:59

I work in healthcare so I've done really well out if the pandemic but my DH had 4 months without work but because his work is ebb and flow anyway he always saves for a rainy day so he broke even.

Earthling1994 · 07/12/2020 19:00

I’ve done better, got a new career in the NHS in a specialist post

Theonewiththecandles · 07/12/2020 19:11

Working from home, same hours and pay. Work for a nation housing association, not a single person has been furloughed or made redundant, those on the frontline who have to shield have been given alternative jobs they can do at home so everyone is safe.

Husband works in a pub so been furloughed for a lot of the year, live in a tier 3 area so still furlough and I think he will be til next year. Though since he's not paying travel expenses (buses and taxis) he's broke about even on 80%

TeaAndBiscuitsAndWine · 07/12/2020 19:26

More hours working than ever but salaried so same wages. WFH since March. Young child at school so was mental when schools were closed. Going back to office would be impossible as no places available at after school or breakfast clubs (moved house and school at end of first lockdown) and am a single parent. Have saved in commuting costs (£120pcm) but other costs have gone up, like electricity now am home all the time, plus food bill - but that may be due to trying to eat more healthily to combat the ‘lockdown bulge’! Spent every penny on the move and doing needful work at new house, now going to save every penny that can as Lord know what the future holds. Vastly increased cost of whatever is available seems to be the general consensus from the newspapers 😞

EverythingsSoComplicated · 07/12/2020 19:41

I left a job in February to start my dream job in march, lost that at the end of march and started working in retail in May as I needed something to do. Whilst covid stopped my dream job. I'm actually happier where I am at the moment.

Yorkshiretolondon · 07/12/2020 19:43

Teachers same pay.... obs no pay rise now.... much heavier workload

Courgetteandbeans · 07/12/2020 19:58

Work in pharmaceuticals, we've been busy!

FreddieMercurysCat · 07/12/2020 20:03

Manufacturing factory office manager here. Our business is up, same hours (30 hrs a week) and we’ve been getting better bonuses (only as business is up) and we received a small pay rise. But we are only fortunate because of the global market right now and what we do is classed as essential, rather than key. However, we do always have in the back of our minds that business could drop off at any time. Happens every so often and times become lean and sometimes a bit worrying as to whether there’s going to be a business.

Carpedimum · 07/12/2020 20:07

I work in aviation and it has been devastating - very little income for the company and losing millions every month. Consequently, many colleagues have been made redundant and many have retired earlier than they wanted to, it’s been truly dreadful. I have worked at home since mid-March; my role is essential and can be done anywhere with access to the internet. The entire company is on 90% pay and I’m expecting that to continue until passenger numbers rise significantly. The vast majority of the workforce have been furloughed, so those of us who haven’t, have been flat out & working far more hours than we’re paid for and needing to deal with tasks outside our own jobs. I have taken odd days leave but, like others have said, I am close to burn out. I am taking all of Christmas off for the first time. It will be a very tough January but, I’m thankful for a job, there’s a lot of people struggling. DP is a civil servant and has been promoted and had a pay rise on the new salary. He’s been busy at times, but only because the logistics of working around the restrictions have meant that tasks have backed up.

Miseryl · 07/12/2020 20:08

Yes kept jobs, we are both Prison Service.

browneyes77 · 07/12/2020 20:10

I’ve been very fortunate. I work in internal recruitment for one of the food retailers/supermarkets, so as a business we have been extraordinarily busy.
As a recruiter for the company we’ve had to support stores heavily recruiting store staff for the uplift in online sales that’s happened due to covid. And still recruiting for the usual roles I recruit for. So I’ve been working all the way through.

My DP is self employed and for the first lockdown he was unable to work at all, with very little government assistance - luckily he has a good amount in his savings pot and business that was able to tide him over, but many others in his position have seen their businesses collapse or on the brink of collapse.

I feel so sorry for anyone who’s job has been negatively affected by covid.
I think I’ve only been lucky due to the fact I work in the food retail industry, but had I have been in any other industry, I could have found myself in the same horrible position as many others.

christmasathomeagain · 07/12/2020 20:20

No difference to either of our jobs. We are both public sector. Have worked throughout, as many hours, if not more. Lucky I know.

GrandTheftWalrus · 07/12/2020 20:22

I've done a lot better than normal from coronavirus. I'm on a zero hour contract and expected no work but I'm getting 25hrs a week constantly and at a much higher rate than normal.

yellowcatss · 07/12/2020 20:23

work in a hotel worked full time throughout not 1 day on furlough

MonkeyPuddle · 07/12/2020 20:27

I’m a nurse so I was fine, currently on mat leave for the last 2 months.
Some of DPs colleagues are being made redundant in the new year, he works in insurance. He is lucky his role is being kept.

Biscuitybiscuit · 07/12/2020 20:33

I'm a self employed housekeeper and have lost work as one of my clients was self isolating, but I can still pay my bills and will try for more work next year.

Wondering1215 · 07/12/2020 20:56

I have. Lots of overtime too (100% necessary). I'm a civil servant.

Royalbloo · 07/12/2020 20:59

Work is more crazy now I think you're either furloughed or working you arse off and doing a million more hours for the same money. I'm the second and I'm grateful but exhausted x

DipSwimSwoosh · 07/12/2020 21:02

I got a new job with fewer hours but similar pay.
