I am off to the Maldives. It is awesome. I am going on a plane. Then when we come back we are off to Switzerland, skiing. I have missed the world.

There is no reason for my post except I am excited!

Sounds fantastic. Enjoy not jealous at all

Iamsososoexcited · 05/12/2020 20:49

It’s just so lovely. My holiday clothes couldn’t believe they were coming out of the wardrobe... Smile

I don’t know about anyone else but I have really really missed the world.

Wonderful. I know how you feel about missing the world and life. Enjoy!

CoronaIsWatching · 05/12/2020 21:02

Well I went abroad this Summer. I don't believe there's any reason for your post apart from boasting.

Babymamaroon · 05/12/2020 21:03

Wow!! Amazing and have a wonderful time Smile

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 05/12/2020 21:04

ChelseaCat · 05/12/2020 21:04

Have a wonderful time - I’m very jealous!!!

AcornAutumn · 05/12/2020 21:06

I hate travelling but even I’m jealous! Enjoy!

AcornAutumn · 05/12/2020 21:06

Is the airport busy? I’d hate them a lot less if they were quiet.

UrghThisIsHard · 05/12/2020 21:12

Have a fantastic time! So jealous. Grin

Osteomancer · 05/12/2020 21:12

are you going for long? as you will have to self isolate for 2 weeks when you get there

Travel to Maldives is subject to entry restrictions

Effective from 10 September, all tourists and short term visitors must present a negative PCR test for COVID-19 on arrival to Maldives. The test and negative PCR certificate must be issued no more than 96 hours prior to departure.
Screening procedures are in place for passengers on arrival, with quarantine facilities set up to isolate any suspected cases of COVID-19.
All non-tourist passengers arriving in Maldives by air (such as residents and returning students) are required to self-isolate for 14 days.

WhySoSensitive · 05/12/2020 21:21

A friend of mine travels all the time, she’s really missing it and I feel like she would be taking your arm off to take your place! 😂
Enjoy your time away OP!

Osteomancer · 05/12/2020 21:24

My error, that's non tourists, teach me to read things properly

Iamsososoexcited · 05/12/2020 21:25

PCR test and no quarantine for Maldives.
Switzerland, quarantine on way home.

I am not try to boast, but if you are a traveller, the shrinking world has broken my heart. I am starting to believe it is still there.

I understand OP and I’m not a traveller

I would give a lot to go away

Is the airport quiet?

Iamsososoexcited · 05/12/2020 21:31

The airport was calm. I wouldn’t say it was very quiet. More like a low hum of humans moving around. It was so nice to be a part of it.

Interesting Its never been a low hum when I’ve been

Ooh, it’s exciting for you. Get me some duty free vodka!

Broken your heart? Really? There's people who lost loved ones. People who have lost jobs. People with mental health issues & financial issues. And you are broken hearted because you couldn't sit on your arse in the sun for a week? This has to be the most insensitive post ever!
Iamsososoexcited · 05/12/2020 21:38

@Obbydoo I know what has happened this year. 🙄 But I can also be sad that I watched the borders close on this incredible amazing world that I love to explore.

Anyway, we are taking off. Night all.

@Osteomancer a lot of holiday destinations atm are requiring holiday makers to quarantine in their hotels or resorts. As the Maldives resorts generally tend to be on individual desert islands there is little chance of tourists leaving their resort to break quarantine unless they have their own private speedboat! There are various other countries that allow British people on holiday that require a negative Covid test before arrival and then 2 weeks quarantine in your resort, including Barbados, Seychelles, Antigua, St Lucia, Maldives, Bermuda, Mauritius and a bunch of other small islands. Mainly islands, as tourists normally enter by a single airport that is easy to police.

@Iamsososoexcited enjoy! The Maldives is one of my favourite places to go to as a professional traveller. It’s beautiful, and very relaxing, and a long way from the madness going on elsewhere. I was supposed to be there last week but my flight was cancelled due to the uk travel ban. I hope to get there at some other point in the winter. The world was a much smaller place until recently, thanks to Covid it’s becoming out of most people’s reach again, so when we manage to get out, it is very exciting. I work on aircraft normally very regularly, but this year I have not worked much at all and I get inordinately excited each time I go to the airport, so I understand your excitement perfectly!

Bellabelloo · 05/12/2020 21:44

Oooh OP, I'm going for Christmas. Will you report back what it's like out there? Does it feel safe etc? X

RaeburnPlace · 05/12/2020 21:45

I hate flying, so more than happy to be at home. I would be so stressed in your place.

Gherkin14 · 05/12/2020 21:47

Sorry but an nhs dr working in icu I find this really irresponsible. I assume you had a covid test prior to flying...and despite being negative you could still be a carrier. A carrier to somewhere with a much less efficient healthcare system than here...what about the local population?
Perhaps it’s just a bit of jealously on my part after a long day in covid icu and having cancelled some special holidays this year voluntarily to help minimise the spread but also because getting leave right now is pretty impossible. My colleagues and I are at breaking point, we’ve had covid since February. People (including young and healthy) are still dying. Just stay at home

backinthebox · 05/12/2020 21:47

@Obbydoo “ Broken your heart? Really? There's people who lost loved ones. People who have lost jobs. People with mental health issues & financial issues.”

I’ve lost a family member to Covid, lost much in my job, but I can understand why people feel the loss to their travel and holidays so keenly. The loss of our ability to travel is a symbolic of the curtailment of freedom and of what has been lost due to Covid, and the ability to travel somewhere is almost a 2 fingered salute to the pandemic.
