I am so excited to be at the airport

I am off to the Maldives. It is awesome. I am going on a plane. Then when we come back we are off to Switzerland, skiing. I have missed the world.

There is no reason for my post except I am excited!

Anyway stop making it sound like you were some kind of intrepid inspired citizen of the world who has been barred from the mind expanding beauty of international exchanges, you're going to the Maldives and switzerland, it doesnt get much more nouveau riche travel consumer than that

Ok hun enjoy. I think loads of us have missed the world but wouldn't travel yet as the pandemic isn't over. I'm torn between not believing this is real and knowing how selfish people are.

We're hopefully off to the Maldives in March! Cannot wait!!

Regardless of the covid situation, 'travelling' should be limited because of the environmental situation. Try and think of the bigger picture eh

I am not sure that with a climate emergency I would be coming onto social media to broadcast my carbon busting trips to the Maldives and then ski-ing.

I did a carbon impact quiz the other day and apparently if everyone lives like me we'll use up 5 earths. I work from home, do no long haul flights, I don't ski or cruise and have a hybrid car and renewable electricity tariff. I wonder what your impact is, OP - considerably more than 5 earths, I should think.

@userxx, no sour grape at all. I could afford to go, I could self isolate on return. I too go on nice holidays about twice a year if no more. However it's irresponsible and selfish to travel like this right now. I won't fall apart because I give up my luxury holidays for a year or two.

Many people are kept away from family. My best friend hasn't seen her poorly mum for 12 months and couldn't be with her after she had 4h surgery and there were no other family to be with her. But hey ho, if some get severely depressed if they can't go on their luxury hissy for 9 months, that's more important than anything.

Sadly, selfishness can always be justified.

I’m so jealous, I’ve only been to the Maldives once but it was fabulous! Have a great holiday, soak up that vitamin D!

This is the reason the pandemic continues. Because of stupid people who can't be patient and accept that things have to be different.

Gotta agree with @CutToChase and @cologne4711. Unless you're on a mercy mission with Doctors without Borders with 1,000 doses of vaccine in the hold, I really think you'd be wiser not to. You're putting yourself (and hence others) at risk and killing this incredible, amazing world.

We are here, just sat in the lounge waiting for the seaplane. I have read all the comments from the supportive to the not so supportive, and I understand them all.

Overall, I just want to say how I appreciate and respect how lucky I am and that I love that flying will always make me so so excited.

I am going to sign off and have a lovely holiday. Fingers crossed to a better 2021 for everyone.

PS for people interested, the flight was easy, masks weren’t a problem, people gave each other space and the airport functioned like clockwork. If you have the chance to travel, please do!

People need to continue travelling so hopefully will have have some sort of tourism industry left at the end of this shit show. Why hasn't your friend seen her poorly mum for 12 months? I am desperate to start travelling again. I am not quite ready but am glad you are able to.

My first trip..... hmmmm....... possibly paris for my birthday or Iceland with the family. :) I cannot wait.

Never fancied the Maldives, but would go if I had to. But right now I’d be grateful for a holiday to almost anywhere. Enjoy OP!
