I am off to the Maldives. It is awesome. I am going on a plane. Then when we come back we are off to Switzerland, skiing. I have missed the world.

There is no reason for my post except I am excited!

Have a fantastic time, I am thrilled for you! Please do update us, and maybe some photos if you're feeling generous?! Enjoy it Star

Ladylimpet · 06/12/2020 13:32

I'm a traveller. But it's a pandemic. Strange for anyone to go travelling.

knittingaddict · 06/12/2020 13:36

@WouldstrokeTomHardy

Don your hard hat OP
You don't think the op knew that before she posted?
BeakyWinder · 06/12/2020 13:39

Sounds amazing OP, if you get chance and can be arsed please can you tell me more about the Maldives? Is it very very chilled or are there plenty of activities, water sports etc. to do?

CorianderQueen · 06/12/2020 13:51

Going on multiple holidays doesn't make you a 'traveller' 😂 the Maldives is sea and sun - hardly a centre of culture.

We love the Maldives and have had 10 holidays there on various islands, with and without the family. But you need to do your research before booking. There are so many resorts to choose from, each is on its own island, some are livelier than others, but the main point of going for many people is the incredible sea life. If you can’t swim or do not want to snorkel or dive, maybe think again. It is not cheap, and even if you find somewhere with an ‘all-inclusive’ option there are likely to be many restrictions particularly on what alcohol is included. Nothing like all-inclusive in, for example, the Caribbean. Use the Maldives TripAdvisor forum to collect information, or FB Maldives Holidaymakers. Once you have been once and have caught Maldivitis, for which the only remedy is a return visit, you can join “Maldives Nutters” on FB.
naughtyelfs · 06/12/2020 15:30

I hate people who call themselves 'travellers' as some kind of special little title when what you mean is 'tourist at popular destinations a few times a year'

🤣🤣🤣 Travellers are so much more sophisticated don't ya know & they always loathe those dreadful tourists!

naughtyelfs · 06/12/2020 15:32

Who are you, Simon Calder?

🤣🤣

tinkerbellla · 06/12/2020 15:38

I'm so jealous! Enjoy every minute!

naughtyelfs · 06/12/2020 15:40

Don't get me wrong I love holidays but stuck to the UK this year. Most places we looked at had restrictions which I just couldn't be bothered with & was worried about not getting back quick enough for elderly relatives. However there are some amazing cheap deals if anyone wants to go.

Whammyyammy · 06/12/2020 16:01

I'm a frequent traveller, states mainly and with work, 10-15 times per year, been twice this year in jan and feb.
I'm.very jealous, enjoy your trips op.

Ihateezoflora · 06/12/2020 16:17

Bunch of jealous miseries on here! I'm a traveller - been travelling and haven't been home since 2015 so feel confident using that title - and I would, have, and do go to beaches and skiing as well as other destinations. There isn't a set rule about where you're allowed to go as a traveller like city breaks ONLY (but only cities not near beaches or mountains) 😂😂 Have a great time OP!

FrankieFrankFrank · 06/12/2020 16:20

YABU purely because I am insanely jealous Grin

MaxNormal · 06/12/2020 16:24

OP isn't breaking any rules, so I don't get why she's getting flak from some of you.

Rhine · 06/12/2020 16:30

Let’s be honest OP, you posted to boast didn’t you? But I suppose this is Mumsnet where people feel that they are ‘entitled’ to a holiday during a pandemic. Meanwhile there are people who’ve not seen loved ones for months have lost their jobs. A bit of self awareness wouldn’t go amiss.

chocolatesaltyxmaspudballs · 06/12/2020 16:41

Have a fabulous time OP. I'm so happy that some people are still able to travel. The travel industry is on its knees.

I went abroad twice this summer and fully enjoyed and appreciated every last second.

Why do people like you have to suck the misery out of everything?

We all know about that- lots of us have had covid, lost jobs and not seen family members who have now passed away

But we can still feel excited for the OP because we are nice people.

I bet that you have had a great year- those who are doom mongers have loved it all. Maybe you need to reflect on self-awareness and why you need to be snipey?

Rhine · 06/12/2020 16:51

No I’m not a doom monger, just think it’s inappropriate to go on holiday abroad during a pandemic. The Maldives is also a relatively poor nation, imagine taking Covid there, where most people can’t afford medical treatment. Fucking selfish and I don’t care if that offends anyone.

If you can’t go without a foreign holiday for a year then you need to give your head wobble.

If you can't post on MN without using the phrase 'give your head a wobble' then you need to give yourself a slap Grin
ineedaholidaynow · 06/12/2020 17:15

I have to agree with @Rhine it would be pretty rubbish taking COVID to the Maldives. Holidays and a global pandemic are not really a great mix

What you posted wasn't about the people of the Maldives- so a massive attempt to make yourself look better by reposting

ShalomToYouJackie · 06/12/2020 17:27

I thought travel during this pandemic was meant to be for essential reasons only but people like OP are jetting off the the Maldives and every other influencer on Instagram appears to be in Dubai at the moment.

I'll be staying at home and not spreading the virus, because I'm not an arse.

Oblomov20 · 06/12/2020 17:35

I think the nasty posts on the thread are a bit grim. Can't we be happy for OP?
All this : some people haven't seen loved ones, lost jobs. Yes we know others have struggled. So? We can still be glad for OP.

Why on earth should we be glad for the OP? Her behaviour is awful. She should be ashamed.
chocolatesaltyxmaspudballs · 06/12/2020 18:05

Why should she be ashamed? She's not breaking any laws. Foreign travel is permitted.
