To be Freaked Out by Sainsbury's Doing This?

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 12:57

Has anyone else had a mailshot from Sainsbury's with a mini advent calendar of vouchers in it?

Apparently (according to this) I was the No. 1 top buyer of passata this year Shock

Really? In the whole of the UK? We're a family of 4, so we're not feeding the 5000 or anything...

I'm a bit freaked out that Sainsbury's think I want to know this.

And actually, I'd rather have a spreadsheet showing my ranking on all the other 750 different products I apparently bought this year! [boggles] (I did lockdown shopping for MIL and two other elderly neighbours Grin)

YANBU- we know companies do this, but don't flaunt it in our faces!
YABU- that's what you get for succumbing to 'loyalty' cards!

Freaked out is an unexplained event, something untoward. No passata

megletthesecond · 05/12/2020 13:15

My dc's loved it. I know the data is from my nectar card. To be fair I've seen the lovely staff at Sainsbury's more than my family this year.

Top 5% of chocolate mousse buyers here.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 05/12/2020 13:17

Freaked out? You must lead a very sheltered life Grin

Shinyletsbebadguys · 05/12/2020 13:19

Oh good lord I really do hope this doesnt become a thing.

I really do not need to be reminded that I have a problem where pecans are concerned. Or the amount of broccoli I have bought in missguided and always fruitless attempts to get ds2 to eat something green.

What a way to point out my lacking as a parent Grin.

Actually it's fine...one of my lacking attributes is forgetting the nectar card regularly, I'm probably safe.

Onpause · 05/12/2020 13:21

We didn't get this 😞

Actually, you're right meglet - I do see Sainsbury's staff more than family! Shock Good thing the staff at our branch are so lovely Grin

You're welcome to mine! Grin Vouchers to be spent on passata, of course...

God I dread to think what mine is. Welsh cakes probably, ds loves them! And I do, obviously!

DH took greak pride in working out from our nectar points how much we have spent in Sainsburys this year (nearing 2.5k) as he is always saying "you're not going to bloody sainsburys again are you?!" I buy the kids clothes from there a lot.
Just for comparison, we spent under 1.5k in morrisons this year and that's yards away, sainsburys is a good 15 min drive.
Asda had 1.5k off us too which is concerning as I thought I only tended to buy clothes for the kids from there but come to think of it, every time I go in I do a top up shop.
This is over the course of a year.. It really opened my eyes

HopeAndDriftWood · 05/12/2020 13:26

I thought it was in your area... I’ve had number one for ginger for two years running, number two for onions last year and number one for garlic this year GrinGrin

ZoeTurtle · 05/12/2020 13:26

It seems very unlikely you're the No 1 buyer of passata! Do they mean that's the product you buy most of?

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 13:27

Hmm, @Pearsapiece, surely letting you know how much you've spent would lead to reigning it in a bit? They carefully didn't give me a total- that would likely be eyewatering this year...but as I said, included a lot of shopping for others.

M&S told me I was the top buyer in my area for their Greek yoghurt (it's really nice). I got so worried I immediately cut back on it 😂😂

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 05/12/2020 13:28

We got this! Ours was a specific size of jar of olives but we weren't first Grin Dd laughed for ages at the card. We only managed 450 different items but given dd is autistic and only eats a narrow range of specific products, I was pleased with our efforts at variety. Mind you the first lockdown was a nightmare trying to get the right food and I'm amazed we aren't the top consumer of some of her things...

You are the ginger queen! Nice and fragrant in your house though Grin

Coffee here DH working from home!

TheSweetestHalleluja · 05/12/2020 13:29

I was the top buyer of poppadom's one year. We do like a good curry in this house Grin

FindHungrySamurai · 05/12/2020 13:29

Oh now I want that, except I don’t, because the DC are junk food addicts and it would be totally shaming.

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 13:30

@ZoeTurtle No- specifically #1buyer of passata, and there was a separate list of my top 3 bought items (passata was also one of those).
Actually, I'm feeling v healthy, because the other top 3 items were carrots and sweetcorn...

OP posts:
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 05/12/2020 13:31

ZoeTurtle it won't be all passata- it will be a specific size and brand and possibly from one store.

MummytoCSJH · 05/12/2020 13:31

@ZoeTurtle well someone has to be the no 1 buyer I suppose Grin

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 13:32

Yes- thankfully everyone in our house likes different 'treats' to one another...so no junky products made the list Wink
OP posts:
PastMyBestBeforeDate · 05/12/2020 13:33

@PassataQueenofBritain our others were tender stem broccoli and strawberries.

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 13:33

We've actually bought more chocolate this year than ever before (not in the mailshot, I just know this). Lockdown definitely led to some dodgy eating here.

I would love this 😂 I really enjoy stats like this! Shame I’m not a Sainsbury’s customer!
