To be Freaked Out by Sainsbury's Doing This?

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 12:57

Has anyone else had a mailshot from Sainsbury's with a mini advent calendar of vouchers in it?

Apparently (according to this) I was the No. 1 top buyer of passata this year Shock

Really? In the whole of the UK? We're a family of 4, so we're not feeding the 5000 or anything...

I'm a bit freaked out that Sainsbury's think I want to know this.

And actually, I'd rather have a spreadsheet showing my ranking on all the other 750 different products I apparently bought this year! [boggles] (I did lockdown shopping for MIL and two other elderly neighbours Grin)

YANBU- we know companies do this, but don't flaunt it in our faces!
YABU- that's what you get for succumbing to 'loyalty' cards!

Blimey. Haven't received anything but I bet mine would be chocolate buttons.

lljkk · 05/12/2020 14:30

Top single cream buyer household here... what's wrong with all the people rarely buying single cream? Xmas Wink

AwkwardSquad · 05/12/2020 14:31

I want one of these too Sad I’m feeling left out now (no, I don’t have a life, in case anyone’s wondering)

KiposWonderbeasts · 05/12/2020 14:32

Christ, mine would probably be Malbec WineBlush

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 05/12/2020 14:43

Last year I was our local top purchaser of paneer cheese. We do eat it pretty often, to be fair.

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 14:44

@LittleRa

I also think it means you were the number 1 buyer of passata at your usual Sainsbury’s not in the whole U.K... although as you say, someone has to be the number 1 buyer in the U.K. Grin
Ah, thank you LittleRa! Maybe I can go through to the regional round no Grin

Ok, that's it!
I don't normally shop at Sainsbury's but I am now going to have to register for a nectar card and find something niche but cheap that I can buy a shed load of. (not overly competitive - honest)

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 14:49

@megletthesecond I do love the Bistro salad, actually- I literally eat it out of the packet.

@loutypips I think we probably get 6 jars a month. DS won't eat tinned tomatoes because of the lumps, so everything is made with passata instead. It makes a very tasty pizza topping too.

So according to passata data you're persona grataGrin

StanfordPines · 05/12/2020 15:02

This is freaking you out? Wait until you read about the young woman who got told by Target that she was pregnant. Problem was that she lived at home and was a teen, she hadn’t told her parents yet. She also hadn’t told Target, they worked it out from her buying patterns.

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 05/12/2020 15:14

Facebook figured out I was pregnant and I hadn't searched anything. I'd bought a test in Boots, got a positive, and then by the afternoon I had adverts for hypnobirthing and nursery furniture. Freaked me out.

I'm probably no. 1 for buying giant blocks of cheddar. DH uses about half a block per slice of cheese on toast, one of my kids eats slices of it as a snack, plus grated cheese goes on everything. I mean, if they want to send me some cheese vouchers I'd happily sell my data for them.

TatianaBis · 05/12/2020 15:15

I’d definitely be No1. buyer of wasabi and buckwheat noodles.

mrsbyers · 05/12/2020 15:49

I got notified I was the number one buyer of Coke Zero in our suburb - was quite amused and cut down massively afterwards

Cygne · 05/12/2020 15:52

Anyone else had a vision of OP staggering out of Sainsbury's with two trolleys-full of passata to stock up her passata hoard?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/12/2020 16:01

Better that than being the No. 1 top buyer of Anusol this year!

Especially if they post your picture in the Sainsbury Magazine. Grin

pinfloy · 05/12/2020 16:02

I think we probably get 6 jars a month.

I think it will be for that specific brand and size of passata and I'd hazard a guess that they sell a lot more passata in the cartons than the glass bottle stuff.

RedToothBrush · 05/12/2020 16:05

Hahaha! This is a good reason not to be loyal to be one supermarket chain. That way you can't be Passata Princess or Ginger Guru.

If you have bought more passata that this house in the last year, hats off to you, thats one hell of an addiction.

Sainsburys are blissfully unaware. Thankfully.

RedToothBrush · 05/12/2020 16:09

Just pondering what we DO buy in bulk from sainsers.

I bet we are top buyers of Tuc biscuits!

viques · 05/12/2020 16:11

This sounds like that buy more for less ( something like that ) programme where in return for your 15 minutes of fame you have to not only let Greg Wallace into your house but give him carte blanche to rootle about in you cupboards. Shudder.

Nurse, please bring my little blue pills, I am getting one of my funny turns.

SevenOfNineTails · 05/12/2020 16:12

Top buyer of Sainsbury’s own brand fish fingers here , but then a fish finger and cheese sandwich is my favourite thing in the whole world Grin

LH1987 · 05/12/2020 16:12

I’m no 1 for loose carrots 😂 it was a proud day when I found out.

GroundAlmonds · 05/12/2020 16:24

Passatta featured quite highly in my apocalypse prepping, and presumably quite a few others.

So I think the only answer is you are buying huge boxes of passatta whilst sleepwalking.

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 16:28

Ahem, I may have a bit of a prepping thing going on... @GroundAlmonds
We live in a flat though, so my stash isn't that big.

OP posts:
TheBabyCheeses · 05/12/2020 16:28

I love a stats email, but I haven't had one for ages. Last time I was the number 1 buyer of Oatly oat milk in my area.

StubbleTurnips · 05/12/2020 16:29

We had this last year - we were number 1 in our region for Heinz lentil soup Grin
