To be Freaked Out by Sainsbury's Doing This?

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 12:57

Has anyone else had a mailshot from Sainsbury's with a mini advent calendar of vouchers in it?

Apparently (according to this) I was the No. 1 top buyer of passata this year Shock

Really? In the whole of the UK? We're a family of 4, so we're not feeding the 5000 or anything...

I'm a bit freaked out that Sainsbury's think I want to know this.

And actually, I'd rather have a spreadsheet showing my ranking on all the other 750 different products I apparently bought this year! [boggles] (I did lockdown shopping for MIL and two other elderly neighbours Grin)

YANBU- we know companies do this, but don't flaunt it in our faces!
YABU- that's what you get for succumbing to 'loyalty' cards!

I had this last year. Apparently I was the top buyer of polos in my town. I was absolutely addicted to them in pregnancy, I would eat 4 at a time and just crunch them all day. Terrible for my poor teeth. But even more of an achievement as I gave birth in April so god knows how many packs I got through in those 4 months to make me top buyer for the YEAR Shock

PassataQueenofBritain · 05/12/2020 17:30

@SeasonallySnowyPeasant It was a physical mailshot- a largish burgundy envelope with a printed leaflet inside.

Does it give specifics?

I mean did it way in your Sainsbury's store, in all Sainsbury's stores, in the whole country private house only customers or did it include restaurants and the such?

Maybe it's the world?

I feel sad, I don't have a Sainsbury's I can shop at; I will never know what I buy an abnormal amount of.

napody · 05/12/2020 17:40

@motorcyclenumptiness

So according to passata data you're persona grataGrin
Grin

I have never heard of this ... so bizarre. Got to be a great example of this being overwhelmed with pointless information (and thus unable to concentrate or think deeply or make rational decisions). Just....why?

Also loved the post about trying to beat their roasted pepper PB Grin

Hmm. I'll look out for it.

Cherryberrypies · 05/12/2020 17:46

I am upset I haven’t had my Christmas mailer from Sainsbury’s this year! Maybe I am no longer a valued customer Sad

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 05/12/2020 17:46

@Donotlikemyname we buy a truly excessive amount of crisps Blush but I vary the bag size and variety to avoid the algorithm's attention.

truelove · 05/12/2020 17:53

I’m very proud to be #1 buyer of orange juice with bits this year and I apparently popped 734 different items into my basket. Loved opening the little windows too.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/12/2020 18:00

Number 1 for peppers here! #proud 😂😂

I've not got any vouchers though. Bastards.

CurlyMango · 05/12/2020 18:01

We didn’t get one but most likely top 1% of ice cream purchases.......lockdown or no lockdown😆😍

slydish · 05/12/2020 18:02

Yes so freaked out - we got our neighbours and I opened it my mistake and now I don't want to give it to her because she is lovely big really overweight and I don't think she wants me to know that she has so many top purchases - I need to skip it in her box.

I hate the marketing by the way.

It has totally put me off Sainsbury's.

slydish · 05/12/2020 18:03

Skip not skip.

MandScookiesrule · 05/12/2020 18:20

Number one for haddock goujons here Halo

ShakespearesSisters · 05/12/2020 18:23

Goodness, glad tesco didn't do this. I'm sure I must be at the top of "mint magnum" purchases. I sneak those in as the deliveries are when everyone else is out. They have a secret hiding place in the freezer Grin

SunshineCake · 05/12/2020 18:24

Last year I was the person who bought the most dried mango in their store Shock.

Ratched · 05/12/2020 18:25

Oh Good God......

I await the email saying i am number one gin buyer and number two pringles pedsin and number three chocolate ( any chocolate) buyer...... 😶😶😶

SunshineCake · 05/12/2020 18:26

Haven't received anything this year.

boatyardblues · 05/12/2020 18:28

We have a Nectar card and a delivery pass. Which of the two were the vouchers from? I think our Nectar card is still linked to our old house (been here for over 15 years), so the students that live there will be getting the benefit of our vouchers and reading about our odd buying habits if it’s gone from Nectar. 😆

Winner here too..... ... spaghetti with meatballs! They gave me a shit ton of points so I can live with the shame of not making my own.

boatyardblues · 05/12/2020 18:45

I’m setting myself a target for next year to be #1 for the Bonne Maman rum babas. I will enjoy the challenge even if I don’t win.

Donotlikemyname · 05/12/2020 18:51

Some of these top spots must be quite easy pickings, as no one appears to be buying salmon paste, pot noodles, lard, sad lonely single meal for one ?
Surely a one off purchase would secure the number one spot, if no ones buying.
Crisps aren’t too bad.

Haffiana · 05/12/2020 18:52

Who got the loo rolls number 1 then? Come on, 'fess up!

Giraffey1 · 05/12/2020 18:53

Last year I was one of the top buyers of cheese scones in my area. I thought it was quite funny ...

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 05/12/2020 21:35

@TreacleHart

Haha we have over £500 worth of nectar points. But we have only ever redeemed them once before when we bought a tv.
I think you can use them for stuff like Eurostar and other shops. You used to be able to put them towards Easyjet vouchers which was awesome, as I saved enough for a couple of European flights. There's definitely fewer options for using them now.
