Okay I need to rant its friday and I have done 3 x 10 hour days back to back, I need wine and to release my anger

FYI this isnt for when its friends or family.

It's about people calling you: banks, clients or colleagues, insurance wanting to check something, whatever.

Its 2020. I'm sorry if you dont like it, but when you call me, you are intruding. We have WhatsApp, we have email. I get instant notifications on my phone. When you call me, you drag me out of whatever I'm doing (working usually) to demand my attention.

If it's about my bank account then guess what? Use your fucking fancy messaging system on the platform I'm assuming that's what it's there for and that way you will have a record.

If it's about work, guess what? I'm fucking working right now. On something that doesnt have to do with you. So send me an email and wait your turn. It's not all about you. And again: I would prefer to have what you say in writing.

Ooh and by the way you know voice messages? Yeah I dont listen to those. So you chat away but just FYI I listen to my voice messages except I dont, I just dial in and then hit 3 or whatever it is repeatedly until they are all deleted.

So dont waste my fucking time and stop jostling into my personal space. Seeing the missed call icon on my phone puts me on edge. If you are bored during lock down and need a human voice then I suggest you call a relative or friend. I AM BUSY. Oh and also: please dont email saying "would it be possible to arrange a call to discuss?". It wouldnt actually, see above.

Am I abnormal to hate this this much??

Why don’t you listen to voicemails? It’s the same as them leaving a written message for you to pick up at your convenience.

TitianaTitsling · 13/11/2020 17:23

Are you very tired? Thats quite a rant about the use of a phone for its actual purpose.. Get lots of wine poured!!

Cheesewine · 13/11/2020 17:23

Haha I don't know if it was supposed to but that cheered me up lol. I despise talking on the phone also, and that includes to people I love. What's worse are the calls about that accident I had... Had one last week where a guy called my phone and asked to speak to the man of the house!

GreenlandTheMovie · 13/11/2020 17:23

I am so with you! Those patronising messages from your bank, wanting to tell you how to "manage your money better" - sorry, buy if you were a billionaire, I might take advice from you then! Or your mobile phone provider, right in the middle of the working day.

HollowTalk · 13/11/2020 17:24

Do you know how to stop notifications on your phone?

VinylDetective · 13/11/2020 17:24

I never answer my phone unless I recognise the caller. I’m not even slightly bothered by the missed call icon if the call’s from an unknown number. Maybe try not being on edge, it’s liberating.

Mamagotskills · 13/11/2020 17:25

I don’t listen to voicemails either and hate phone calls

Liftup · 13/11/2020 17:27

yabu/unhinged

Liftup · 13/11/2020 17:27

also sounds like you should be sacked if you do that for work calls/ messages

WorraLiberty · 13/11/2020 17:29

Yes, you are.

And quite unprofessional sounding also.

Brighterthansunflowers · 13/11/2020 17:29

YABU

Nobody forces you to answer your phone.

Cheeseandlobster · 13/11/2020 17:31

You delete work voicemails? Actually who the hell do you think you are? Its not all about you either and some people prefer to speak about things as emails can be miconstrued sometimes. Fair enough, listen when its convenient. But listen fgs. You come across as arrogant and rude

CrotchBurn · 13/11/2020 17:31

@Brighterthansunflowers
Damn right they dont!

Well, I guess I'm in a minority then 🤷‍♀️

you need a snickers and a chill pill.

your lucky to be still employed with a bad attitude like that..

Summerstorms · 13/11/2020 17:32

You don't have to answer your phone

WorraLiberty · 13/11/2020 17:33

I do find the thread title quite ironic 🤣🤣🤣

Saladfingersscaresme · 13/11/2020 17:34

You need some sleep, you might feel differently when you aren’t exhausted. You do sound irrationally angry.

tectonicplates · 13/11/2020 17:34

Maybe change your voicemail message to say "Email is the best way to contact me?"

applepineapple · 13/11/2020 17:34
Biscuit
doctorhamster · 13/11/2020 17:34

I'm surprised anyone wants to call you to be honest.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 13/11/2020 17:35

I have never had my bank call about the bank account👀 Nor did I ever have insurance call to "check something".

Change your contact preferences if situations about these thing come up so often it actually bother you.

LondonlovesLola · 13/11/2020 17:35

I get that you’re tired but YABU and sound pretty awful tbh.

Put your phone on do not disturb (I can select contacts who can get through regardless of this setting) or don’t answer if the caller isn’t one of your contacts.

It’s really not difficult.

UnconsideredTrifles · 13/11/2020 17:36

I hate phone calls; knowing I have one coming puts me right on edge. Voicemails are even worse because then I have to make the call! But I think you are being a bit unreasonable, since phonecalls are a fairly normal way of contacting someone and sometimes are the best way to communicate... (Not often, though. I'd happily lose 90% of my calls!)

FippertyGibbett · 13/11/2020 17:36

I don’t have an answer machine on my mobile for this very reason, I am not phoning you back.

mscongeniality · 13/11/2020 17:37

I hate getting voice mails too. Is there a way to turn them off on iPhone?!
