Okay I need to rant its friday and I have done 3 x 10 hour days back to back, I need wine and to release my anger

FYI this isnt for when its friends or family.

It's about people calling you: banks, clients or colleagues, insurance wanting to check something, whatever.

Its 2020. I'm sorry if you dont like it, but when you call me, you are intruding. We have WhatsApp, we have email. I get instant notifications on my phone. When you call me, you drag me out of whatever I'm doing (working usually) to demand my attention.

If it's about my bank account then guess what? Use your fucking fancy messaging system on the platform I'm assuming that's what it's there for and that way you will have a record.

If it's about work, guess what? I'm fucking working right now. On something that doesnt have to do with you. So send me an email and wait your turn. It's not all about you. And again: I would prefer to have what you say in writing.

Ooh and by the way you know voice messages? Yeah I dont listen to those. So you chat away but just FYI I listen to my voice messages except I dont, I just dial in and then hit 3 or whatever it is repeatedly until they are all deleted.

So dont waste my fucking time and stop jostling into my personal space. Seeing the missed call icon on my phone puts me on edge. If you are bored during lock down and need a human voice then I suggest you call a relative or friend. I AM BUSY. Oh and also: please dont email saying "would it be possible to arrange a call to discuss?". It wouldnt actually, see above.

Am I abnormal to hate this this much??

So why do you have a mobile phone?

Joswis · 13/11/2020 17:37

My voicemail actually says, please text or email, these voice messages are not checked.

livinlavida · 13/11/2020 17:37

You're in the wrong job hun 😂

ArthurShelbysTash · 13/11/2020 17:37

Well. Feel better?

nancybotwinbloom · 13/11/2020 17:37

You don't need wine you need gin. Gin

Have a big fuck off gin, something nice for tea and a bath.

Work sounds like it's getting you down and your fed up and just want to speak to no one.

I hate voicemails also. No idea why. It's on my list with puttting petrol in the car and folding drying and putting it away.

AutumnSummersBuffysCousin · 13/11/2020 17:38

Go have that drink- don’t get worked out about shit like this, life is waaaaayyyy too short!

Biscuit
CrotchBurn · 13/11/2020 17:40

@UnconsideredTrifles
I agree sometimes they are crucial but so often especially with work they are people calling to express quite literally EXACTLY what they wrote in their email. I honestly think a lot of people use phone calls to make themselves feel busy or something.

Maybe I should actually start responding and then at least save the numbers in my phone because right now I'm getting like 3 phone calls a day from numbers I dont recognise and its stressing me out.

I will hold my hands up and admit I had a gruelling work week though where it was basically work, come home, eat, go to bed. I've been working to ultra tight deadlines where a 20 min phone call would actually significantly delay me so admittedly it was a bad week. I do tend to feel like this generally though but to a lesser extent

save money, don't have a phone.

I think you might work for my local council...

Yeah, someone emailed me the other day saying 'you're on Do Not Disturb, so I emailed you'

Confused

Mind? Boggled. Again.

TicTacTwo · 13/11/2020 17:43

Calling people is often faster than emailing if you have a quick question (thinking of work and clients here). I think you're being really unprofessional deleting voicemails from these people.

Banks and insurance- I'm not a fan of talking to them on the phone unless it's an emergency or specifically about a claim This is partly because the security questions take so long and I think I sound like a plonker trying to explain I live at number 40 and not 14 etc

If you don't want to be disturbed used "do not disturb" on your phone with your child's school or other contacts set as an exception.

grassisjeweled · 13/11/2020 17:44

I would prefer to have what you say in writing.

^^

Yes! This. Everyime.

ScorchioScorchio · 13/11/2020 17:44

This is possibly the reason I'm spending so much time chasing clients rather than actually seeing them for treatment. No-one seems to answer their phone anymore and, if they're not listening to my message either, I'm just going to move to the next person on my (very long) list.

Ferrari458 · 13/11/2020 17:45

If you're not going to pick up voicemail switch it off or leave a message saying so. I'll never forget the voicemail from my Mum telling my my dad had been rushed into hospital with a heart attack.

Fouroclockonamarblemorning · 13/11/2020 17:46

And breathe...........

flaviaritt · 13/11/2020 17:49

This is completely unreasonable.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 13/11/2020 17:49

I absolutely hate talking on the phone, and I get that call centers phoning you is annoying, so just ignore the phone. As for the work stuff YABVU. Its work. Sounds like you are lucky to still have a job.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 13/11/2020 17:49

YANBU but I hate voicemails more than calls. I can see you’ve called, so I’ll phone back. And if it’s really important then there’s other ways to contact. A lot of people phoning me at work are doing it to give them something to do. So annoying!

thepeopleversuswork · 13/11/2020 17:49

YABU but I feel you.

I spend 10 hours a day emailing, calling, WhatsApping and Zooming people and I get to a point where the prospect of one more seems likely to push me over the edge.

I think its this sense that there's always someone who is demanding one more bit of your time and they always get their way. I sometimes just want to creep away into a dark hole where no-one; my bosses, my clients, my child, my dad, my boyfriend, my bank, my childminder, my friend who likes to chat for hours, can reach me.

I just want to be on my own and not have people constantly expecting a piece of my time. Just for 10 minutes.

Sabrina124 · 13/11/2020 17:51

YABU about work calls. Some things need to be communicated on the phone, not email. I also have several colleagues who don't answer emails for days so I will call them if it's semi-urgent.

hammeringinmyhead · 13/11/2020 17:52

The worst is when you email and the person immediately calls you back. I stare at my phone in horror! If I wanted to phone you, I would have!

My old boss used to make me email colleagues and then immediately call to explain said email. Angry
