Cummings

Aibu to think this year is slowly improving

 1. Trump is going.
 2. Vaccine on horizon.
 3. Cummings going.
How the unelected bureaucrat was given all that power in first place is another story. Hopefully Bojo will now listen to his electorate for once.

Not even time for a collection.
Javid's name pops up in regards to Sonia Khan from a quick look online. Settlement today then Dom hits the road. It's just one big jigsaw isn't it?

ListeningQuietly · 13/11/2020 21:02

We are not safe from Cummings until he has left this planet without life support

VinylDetective · 13/11/2020 21:09
@VinylDetective - the part that stuck out to me was a fairly long discussion about the dynamics around how Cummings ended up in the position he did. The speculation was that we have a lot of very well educated people in the cabinet but not actually intelligent and they know it. Cummings had the confidence to make out he knows what he’s talking about and BJ in particular is happy to let someone else deal with the details while he plays front man.

O’Brien happily stated that he doesn’t have any inside sources but I do value his speculative opinion because he’s dealt with BJ for a long time. He’s unfortunately not much wiser than anyone else about what’s going on behind closed doors and I’m guessing will have been as surprised as anyone else Cummings ended up going today.
Thank you for that. It’s food for thought, isn’t it?

Pre pandemic I was endlessly mocked by a notoriously pro Tory poster here for predicting that Johnson would be gone by Christmas. It doesn’t look so ridiculous now.

GCAcademic · 13/11/2020 21:22

I think the whole thing has been stage managed. Cummings was always going to leave at the end of the Brexit transition period, he’s got what he wanted out of the job. A “sacking” makes it look like Johnson has found his backbone and a bit of a moral compass. And the Daily Mail gets a chance to do what it loves best - place the blame on an apparently scheming woman.

I don’t think Johnson is going yet. I think this is the start of his Phase II as PM.

VinylDetective · 13/11/2020 21:29

Gove will be royally pissed off tonight with his protege gone. We all know how disloyal and ruthless he is. I wouldn’t put anything past him, he’s stabbed Johnson in the back before.

jambeforeclottedcream · 13/11/2020 21:48

@Tellmetruth4

DH and I saw the dramatic pictures of him leaving with his box and burst out laughing. Probably the most staged pap stroll ever. They must think we’re all mugs.
We thought that. Someone like Cummings wouldn't normally leave by the front door. Also there's more than a cactus and a picture of his kids in that box
Cornettoninja · 13/11/2020 21:50

Wasn’t it the front he left by when he legged it when they all found out they had covid?

Yes it was. It was definitely staged but I wonder if Johnson wanted to make a display of taking the decisive action he should have taken six months ago.
Thedogscollar · 13/11/2020 22:13

Sajid Javid now tipped for Cummings job.
The odious little turd still on the payroll till mid December tho. No doubt he will have the gall to right his memoirs whilst at No10 and expect us to give a shit.
Not such a bad Friday 13th tho Cummings gone and Peter Sutcliffe dead.

I meant on the last day at work in general. But yeah that was a bit odd as well. Normally people like that do their day to day comings (no pun intended) and goings via the back door

ListeningQuietly · 13/11/2020 22:21

bull
an elected MP cannot take that job

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 13/11/2020 22:22

Good news though he absolutely should have been sacked earlier this year

Boris Johnson isn’t going anywhere if anything the Tories will unite behind him now DC has been shoved out

Thedogscollar · 13/11/2020 22:42

@ListeningQuietly
Not what it says on Twitter.

I fully agree! He may be a real allien and need no oxygen though! He can write as many memoirs as he wants. I won't be wasting my time. Let's see what happens to Boris without the Boss there. Do you think he can do this on his own? I bet you he is asking yhis himself
Tellmetruth4 · 13/11/2020 23:35

I wonder if he’ll back date his blog to say he knew this was going to happen today? He is a ‘super forecaster’ after all.

MercyBooth · 13/11/2020 23:38

DH reckons its all for show and Cummings will be telling Boris what to do from home.

WithGusto2 · 14/11/2020 00:01

Ding dong the witch is dead!!! Was thinking the same thing OP

Ghosts2020 · 14/11/2020 00:11

anyone who believes he 'quit' is deluded. He more than likely was going to be sacked but was either given option to resign or quit before he got sacked to gain one step ahead.

ScienceSensibility · 14/11/2020 00:33

Cummings will just be doing another highly paid job, probably for Gove.

He will have planned that exit with the cardboard box, to fool the plebs, and no doubt had great fun seeing the media fall for it.

Wankers, the lot of them.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 14/11/2020 00:39

Tellmetruth4 either that or he had always planned the parting of the ways to be 6 weeks before the Brexit chickens came home to roost.

He said he was leaving last January

He did the same at the DfE-announced he was leaving a good while in advance and stuck to it

I have been SpAD (ded) by Dominic- it was odd but not unpleasant

Nothowiexpected · 14/11/2020 01:09

UsernameSaved why the dramatics tonight then? Immediate effect blah blah, box and sad face?

Good riddance to Cummings, although I expect his next job will be even better paid.

I don't think any of them truly believed Brexit was a good idea; they just wanted attention & to annoy Cameron and the remainers. I don't think they thought they'd win the referendum. As the Brexit catastrophe gets nearer and nearer, more will disappear off.
