I detest Cummings and will rejoice when I no longer run the risk of seeing his deeply unpleasant sneer on news reports. However, he is no different really to Alastair Campbell in his style and the level of his control. Why must PMs look for those Rottweilers from the murky lairs of the red tops?

I was cheered to hear this news, although it's possible - probable - he'll still be in touch in politics. I doubt the croneyism will stop overnight. But it's good.

Sadly a year too late. We're still leaving the EU in the most damaging way possible. Without him we might have extended transition and that would have provided time for saner voices to keep us in the EEA.

All his going has done is allow Johnson to stay. Not sure that's really a "result". We're still being beaten up. Just not pissed on while it's happening.

Delighted Cummings is going, but it’s pathetic of him to quit just before all the post-Brexit hard work starts on 1 Jan. What a quitter.

From what I understand he had no intention of being around for long afterwards anyway. He saw himself as an architect who would leave processes in place (the rat had already planned which lifeboat he’d jump into)

Maybe the government has finally realised they need to do a deal with Europe now that Trump's gone, and Cummings was the one blocking it. Shame he didn't go 6 months ago, I wonder if he'll crawl back to Russia now?
Can't see Gove ever being PM, he is too odious. Johnson may now survive as a puppet with someone else pulling the strings.
