Will Donald pardon the turkeys or will the turkeys pardon Donald?

There was a programme on Radio 4 a month back that went looking through the archives about the background and consequences of the revocation of the Fairness Doctrine:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000n6rr

Michael Goldfarb looks at how eliminating a simple broadcast regulation in the United States, The Fairness Doctrine, led to the birth of right-wing talk radio, Fox News, political polarisation, and the rise of Donald Trump

I can't see Ivanka writing an exposé until daddy is dead.

At which point she might either have a long time in therapy, live on a retreat for a few years, and reinvent herself as a professional victim.

Or just skip to reinventing herself as a professional victim, while sliming around the right-wing talk shows and grifting onwards.

Blueberries0112 · 19/11/2020 00:28

No, I think she loves her dad. I think they all do

MerchantOfVenom · 19/11/2020 00:54

Everything about Ivanka is ‘liberal elite’.

All the important people can’t stand her Dad. And all the people who love her Dad are people she wouldn’t be seen dead with.

It will be interesting to see what her next steps are. I don’t think an exposé on old Dad is on the cards.

Don Jnr and Eric are crying and whining like babies all over social media - it’s a joy to behold - but she is not. She is definitely not like them, and has been very careful not to come across as a crazed MAGAt like her brothers have.

Will be interesting...

They may have strong attachments to him but I'm not sure they would qualify as love, not as most people understand it anyway

I do not think for one minute Ivanka would betray her Dad. Love of a parent is a very complicated thing... and the family dynamic for them is so complicated. The ghastly sons will know Ivanka is the favourite, which is why they endlessly try and please him, there will be huge resentment whch they have to hide. Ivanka will secretly revel in her favourite child status, it will be a toxic family relationship with all five of them, huge consequences for the future I think.

edition.cnn.com/2020/11/17/politics/trump-biden-natsec-transition-fires/index.html

The Trump team has prepared legally required transition memos describing policy challenges, but there are no discussions about actions they could take or pause. Instead, the White House is barreling ahead. A second official tells CNN their goal is to set so many fires that it will be hard for the Biden administration to put them all out.
Biden's toughest foreign policy challenge may be regaining allies' trust
Biden's toughest foreign policy challenge may be regaining allies' trust
It's a strategy that radically breaks with past practice, could raise national security risks and will surely compound challenges for the Biden team -- but it could also backfire. Analysts and people close to the Biden transition argue the Trump team may act so aggressively that reversing some of its steps will earn Biden easy goodwill points and negotiating power with adversaries.

An extended interview of Barack Obama is about to start on Radio 4. He's plugging his book, obviously, but he should have some interesting things to say.

They love their country so much that they... are happy to burn it all down if it's not glorifying them.

BruceAndNosh · 19/11/2020 09:50

Not sure what is going on...
All over news is fact that Election Board officials in Wayne County Michigan refused to certify results in the detroit area. (very Blue)
Eventually the 2 Republican board members voted to certify ALL results.
Now it is claimed that they have rescinded their votes, signing an affidavit that they were bullied into agreeing.
The only source I can find for the last bit is a very pro trump website

I read that he doesn't like having his photo taken with Tiffany because he thinks she looks overweight. He really is vile.

BruceAndNosh · 19/11/2020 09:55

Affidavits are the Trump campaign favourite thing. They are being touted as irrefutable evidence but surely despite their apparent legal heft, an affidavit is just a statement which can be challenged in a court of law? McNinny is waving them round like the New Ten Commandments, sent by God

CaveMum · 19/11/2020 10:06

@nauticant that interview is on the BBC Sounds app so I intend to listen to it at lunchtime when I pop out to stretch my legs around the village!

nauticant · 19/11/2020 10:13

More book plugging than commentary on current events but interesting nevertheless CaveMum.

I've just found a video purporting to be a Democrat threatening the lives of one the Republican board members in Wayne County's children, published yesterday morning on Twitter by someone called "Miss Michigan" @correcthemedia. I think it's quite likely that the video was doctored or deliberately misunderstood by the publisher (the speakers on my laptop have gone so I can't hear what the guy says), but the amount of hatred of Democrats and accusations that their party activists on the whole have intimidated people into changing their votes on the thread beneath it is immensely disturbing to me. So much so, I find myself wondering if the Republicans might be right - until I remember the well trodden Trump path of loudly accusing your opponents of your own bad behaviour. twitter.com/correctthemedia/status/1328969920357535744

There's been so many threads and posts I don't know if this woman has been mentioned: Heather Cox Richardson (TDPR)
@HC_Richardson (Twitter). She is also on Facebook.

She is an historian and professor and very insightful. Fascinating (and scary) to read.

Roussette · 19/11/2020 12:22

Thanks Nanny I follow her on Twitter, she's brilliant.

The Orange One just tweeted:
Important News Conference today by lawyers on a very clear and viable path to victory. Pieces are very nicely falling into place. RNC at 12:00 P.M.

That's around the same time Georgia is expected to announce the results of its recount, which election officials say will affirm Biden's win in the state.
