Will Donald pardon the turkeys or will the turkeys pardon Donald?

@CoteFolie

Why is he doing this?

Because he wants to argue the irregularities mean that all the votes should be tossed out? That would result in a Trump victory. They wanted a Bush Gore strategy but it's not close enough so he has to cast doubt on large numbers of democratic voters. Giuliani and Graham are doing same in Pennsylvania and Georgia.

If he can do that through recounts/court orders in each of the swing states he can win the election. I just hope the system holds and gives Biden at least a chance.

Thank you for explaining why they are focusing on counties with such strong Dem presence. I was thinking along complex mathematical lines but your theory makes much more sense
knittingaddict · 18/11/2020 20:12

Is there any chance at all that these law suits are part of a scam? Trump is asking for donations from his cult members, but not all of that money is going to fund these litigations. Does he have to start this scattergun series of cases to justify the donations and keep them rolling in? Apart from that or merely undermining democracy, I can't see why he is approaching it in this manner.

I know, I know, nothing makes sense in the Trump universe.

These are also my suspicions. I wonder where all those millions will be spent.
BruceAndNosh · 18/11/2020 20:29

Yes the small print on emails soliciting donations makes it (opaquely) clear that only small amount of any donation goes to the legal fight fund. Most is going to pay off campaign debt and into a fund to support Trump's political future

BruceAndNosh · 18/11/2020 20:32

I'm wondering down the line will all Trump's children stand by him? If criminal charges are forthcoming, will either Eric or Don Jr plea bargain? Will Ivanka write a Daddy Dearest expose?

DuncinToffee · 18/11/2020 20:47

He will also need money to pay for the lawsuits filed against him, Rudi isn't cheap

DGRossetti · 18/11/2020 21:12
@DGRossetti States handle their own rules on whether a vote cast by a person who cast a ballot in advance, then dies, is counted. North Carolina doesn't allow it. I think there are something like 15 states that do.
As I said, I would have been astounded to learn otherwise.

So basically, it's a non issue disguised as a squirrel.

I think the best explanation is that Trumps overweening view of himself as a businessman makes him believe that conceding is somehow a tradable asset. Not sure what for though. A nice pardon ?
Anon778833 · 18/11/2020 21:35

Another thing about Trump is that his whole life he has 'followed' the teachings of some book which suggests if you keep repeating a lie it will become the truth.

Trump's niece says that the Trump children are all fully aware that his 'love' of them is entirely conditional upon whether they are doing what he wants them to. None of them will want to be disinherited. The older three have tried to convince him to kick Tiffany out of his will - how lovely they sound.

That book is certainly not The Bible.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

-Joseph Goebbels

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/11/2020 21:58

Goebbels was quoting Mein Kamf, I think. Or at least, that is certainly in Mein Kamf, when Hitler attributed lies of that sort to (well, he would) the Jews.

And since he was a pretty unoriginal thinker, I suspect Hitler will have got it from somewhere else.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/11/2020 22:03

Found it.

"All this was inspired by the principle—which is quite true within itself—that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.

"It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying."

And if that doesn't ring true to what is happening in the Trump Cult, I'm a banana.

CoteFolie · 18/11/2020 22:17

Here we go.... court filing setting out the Trump aims in Pa.

There's still no evidence but who needs evidence.

https://twitter.com/ryanjreilly/status/1329184748988731393

"Ultimately, Plaintiffs will seek the remedy of Trump being declared the winner of the legal votes cast in Pennsylvania in the 2020 General Election, and, thus, the recipient of Pennsylvania’s electors.”

There you have it!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/11/2020 22:17

And, Oh Lord, does this make you think of anyone in particular?

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.

(It is from a report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler's psychological profile.)

MerchantOfVenom · 18/11/2020 22:27

and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it

What’s fascinating though, is that ‘the people’ don’t all believe it. Luckily, a majority don’t believe it.

People ask - what makes Trump supporters fall for his nonsense?

I’m actually more interested in - why do so many (more) people see him for exactly what he is, and do not fall for his bullshit?

Why can’t he weave his pathetic spell over those people? To be fair, most of us on these threads?

What do we have, that they don’t have? Is it as easy as thinking it’s down to intelligence and/or critical thinking skills?

Or is there more to it? If it is just down to intelligence and critical thinking, then we’re doomed surely - because I’m not sure those things can be changed (critical thinking yes, but only if you have the intelligence to want to improve it, in the first place).

TheNorthWestPawsage · 18/11/2020 22:28

With reference to those lies.

The first thing Biden needs to do is reestablish the Fairness Act that Reagan killed in 1988. It required news networks to provide truthful and fair news. Limbaugh, FOX News, Newsmax and OANN repeat and embellish those lies 24/7.

From back a few pages:

Not sure how feasible or economic it would be to drill in winter in Alaska.

Yes, drilling absolutely runs in winter in Alaska - it needs the ice infrastructure in place to move equipment around.

Trump’s opening up of licensing rounds is probably too late for anything to happen this winter but it has the potential to create a headache for Biden’s team as once nominated the leases can be hard to claw back.

However, given that there’s not a lot of infrastructure currently at the refuge area and there is likely to be a massive public backlash (it’s a polar bear habitat) major O&G companies might well be reluctant to take up licences. Current low oil prices will also make take up less likely.

If this were a drama series instead of real life, I would expect Rudi to turn out to have been a double agent for the good guys all along. He certainly couldn't serve Trump worse even if he were.

CoteFolie · 18/11/2020 22:47

I didn't know that NorthWest. How interesting and what appalling (I'm assuming) unintended consequences.

Restoring that now is a tall order because in the intervening years people have ceased to share the interpretation of facts or truths.

The mask issue is a case in point - my experts will say it saves lives but another set of 'experts' dispute that. People are wedded to absolutes. Ditto climate change, vaccines etc

Where do you start to repair that?

I think Obama has called it 'truth decay' in recent interviews.

Yohoheaveho · 18/11/2020 23:06

Will Ivanka write a Daddy Dearest expose?
after the way he humiliated her, openly & publicly expressing sexual interest in her, yeah I recon she could turn and expose him
