Will Donald pardon the turkeys or will the turkeys pardon Donald?

Pompeo. That is all. You've probably already covered this on the last thread.

FilthyforFirth · 11/11/2020 11:43

Is anyone seriously worried about electors not voting the way their state did? I am starting to worry this is how they will 'legitimise' the coup they seem to be planning.

I kept thinking come Jan 20th SS will simply escort him out should it come to that but what if electors are pressured to vote for Trump? I understand two voted the other way in 2016 but I am concerned there could be much larger numbers this time...

52andblue · 11/11/2020 11:49

@Echobelly

I don't think he'll make a concession speech, he'll just flounce out the back door, having left as big a mess as a he can for Biden out of sheer spite, regardless of the harm that will do the public.
I agree @Echobelly !!

I think it's extremely unlikely. Trump would need dozens of electors to defect to him, and the electors from states that voted for Biden will all be pledged Demcorats, so difficult to see why they would switch.

Yes. I mentioned it to my son this morning.

Normally you'd expect riots if that happened, but I'm afraid they wouldn't happen. Or would be crushed.

Not a pleasant thought.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 11/11/2020 12:00

I also think behind the scenes Trump is seeking a haven where there are no extradition treaties. Panama maybe ? Biding time to arrange and then sneak out the back door . Trump is always only for himself . Nothing else matters

Yohoheaveho · 11/11/2020 12:12

I agree that Trump is always only for himself but I also think he is delusional and will not need the best advice

Echobelly · 11/11/2020 12:14

One one level, I think Trump hates being President - he hates the meetings, the briefings which bore him and he doesn't understand, and he hates that, unlike being a business boss, you can't just order things and get them done because there are Processes outside of him. OTOH, he loves being called 'Mr President', he loves being the Most Important Person in The World. So he's fighting hard to keep that, and also because he knows he'll likely be arrested and bankrupted the minute he's not President. Agree @2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney - he's probably considering where he and his money can bolt to. But again, he may risk staying to continue getting the 'adoration' from his fan base.

OVienna · 11/11/2020 12:15

I am afraid what they are trying to do is really wind up Biden supporters, get them in such a frothy state where they are really afraid T won't go, and finally will protest. I could be reading into this because I am ready to book a flight. Then they can be like an abusive partner (in a thread I read one here one time) "Okay, okay sheesh. Look at you! Look at how upset you are!" Sort of thing.

I am very rattled and pissed off though

yes, this.

His enablers are worrying as his behaviour grows even more erratic and bolshie

I don’t know how worrying it is overall it what he has planned

Best case he wants some money in donations, worst... not sure

See, Marsha, I think they're cool with it. I think they're just fine with the carry on.

Didn't someone say quite soon after it was called he was "going after the electoral college". I wondered then if that's what this meant Confused
MarshaBradyo · 11/11/2020 12:20

OVienna oh yeh I meant worrying to me Grin

They are fine with it I agree and means he’s losing perspective (even more of it)

BruceAndNosh · 11/11/2020 12:20

Thanks for the New thread. Will he be gone before thread 150?
This might have been posted on previous thread but it is worrying
edition.cnn.com/2020/11/10/politics/trump-officials-ousted-burrowing/index.html
Trump is not only ousting those that don't toe the line, he is also moving Trump loyalists from political appointments to civil service ones. Civil servants are much harder to fire (which is why Fauci has lasted so long). So an eventual Biden administration will end up with top political appointments having to be agreed by (a likely Republican) Senate, and a shed load of Trump civil service lapdogs

Yohoheaveho · 11/11/2020 12:21

I think he is addicted to the high that he gets from the adoration of his followers
Addicts tend not to make rational choices, they tend to act against their own interests

HoneysuckIejasmine · 11/11/2020 12:23

Didn't the SCOTUS rule that faithless electors would be acting illegally.

Igotjelly · 11/11/2020 12:23

Its surely unlikely that enough electoral colleges would vote against the result of ballots to actually give Trump victory.

FilthyforFirth · 11/11/2020 12:25

Bit of a mixed bag then in terms of thinking he may try and abuse the electoral college. I don't know enough about the process. Were there any legal ramifications for the two who refused to vote for Trump last time?

I just worry that as the SC is in his pocket, if he does manage to persuade PA and other remaining states to vote his way, what is Bidens recourse?

I have gone from feeling this is all for show and to froth up his rabid base, to genuinely feeling concerned he will actually steal the election, with the full complicity from GOP leadership. God I hope I am wrong.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 11/11/2020 12:25

Rousette that antichrist article was illuminating. Might forward it to some family members...

Let's hope so.
maggiethecat · 11/11/2020 12:26

The GOP are trying to work out some deal with him to shore up his base support for the Georgia runoffs. Question is how long and how far they'll let him carry on with his antics with the risk of serious civil unrest. I don't think they really care about anything else other than retaining the senate tbh.

BruceAndNosh · 11/11/2020 12:30

The Georgia run offs are early January?
God, they just can't support him for another 8 weeks, the country will be in pieces

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 11/11/2020 12:32

I think he is addicted to the high that he gets from the adoration of his followers this and possibly his alleged adderall addiction ;)

I think this is a very astute assessment of the situation.
