@ThistleWitch - Trump supporters, of whom I presume Baluchistan95 is one, believe Trump's claim that he was "tough on China" and forced them to pay billions of dollars to the USA. The reality is that he didn't force them to pay anything - it was American consumers that paid. The US trade deficit with China reached historic highs under Trump. But his supporters continue to believe he was tough on China and that he made America great again.
This is mostly correct, with two qualifications. The tariffs did hurt some Chinese exporters as American companies sourced products elsewhere, and some Chinese exporters were forced to lower prices to offset the tariffs. On the whole, they were counterproductive.

for our countries sake it should have been Trump rather than Biden, he is no friend of brexit

There is always one. Someone who does not pay a penny in tax to his own country is going to be your friend. Yeah, right.

Good. Let's hope we have to work with the EU, we should never have left in the first place.

Biden 🇺🇸

TheKeatingFive · 07/11/2020 20:40

Are people still clinging to the view that brexit is anything other than an unmitigated disaster? Confused

I believe the democrats are committed to upholding the GFA. Thank fuck for that.

Trump? Is that you?
Parker231 · 07/11/2020 21:34

When was Trump ever a friend to the U.K.?

Good to see credit given to the residents of Apache County for their support for Biden. I'm British but I've been to the Navajo Res. I was inspired by the crime fiction of Tony Hillerman, an honorary Navajo, and spent several days driving from one end to the other. It's the size of Wales. As you say, the infra-structure is practically non-existent and they have suffered dreadfully from Covid. While we were there, there were warnings about cases of the Plague on local radio.

I recommend Hillerman's books about 2 Navajo policeman to anyone interested in Navajo beliefs and traditions - as well as being a cracking good read.
Thanks, and a VERY special thanks to the wonderful people who made it happen! I've been following that story, and donating whenever I had a spare dollar, for months now!

WE ELECTED BIDEN! I went to sleep at 8 AM Saturday morning and woke up to the news about 2 hours ago. My first deep breath in FOUR LONG YEARS! And...we have elected our first woman VP, and a woman of color, at that! I can't tell you how that lifts my heart!

Mamanyt · 08/11/2020 00:10

@Quaagars

(calling dead soldier ‘losers and suckers’, Shock Seriously? That's awful, not seen that, do you have a source? Not disbelieving you, can well imagine it's true, sounds like something he'd say but want to see for myself as that's just..... wow even by his standards lol
Yes, it is true. This is the report from Fox News, a FAR RIGHT news source, and major Trump cheering squad. If THEY have verified it, it is true.

www.bing.com/videos/search?q=trump+calls+military+suckers+fox+news&docid=608024531752976442&mid=6C59CDEDE67C6078D6E86C59CDEDE67C6078D6E8&view=detail&FORM=VIRE

He also said, "I don't get it (about military people). What's in it for them?"

He ALSO said, re Senator John McCain, who was a prisoner of war during Viet Nam, and refused release while his men were still there, "People say he's a hero. I don't know. I' like people who weren't captured."

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 08/11/2020 00:48

Can we please stop talking about DT. He’s lost and he’s a lame duck now.

I’m sure there’s nothing he enjoys more than attention- so can we talk about something else?🤣

LordLancington · 08/11/2020 03:22

Sadly, I think you may be right.

It’s great that America no longer has a misogynist/racist for a leader but I’m not exactly rejoicing at the thought of the coming recession here.

Trump was half-British, liked Boris, agreed with brexit, and talked about a ‘special relationship’.

Biden is at the opposite end of the political spectrum to Boris, disagrees with brexit, and uses the strapline ‘Buy American’.

TheKeatingFive · 08/11/2020 03:55

Trump was the most protectionist president of all time.

‘Agreeing with Brexit’ would have made fuck all difference to prioritising America’s interests.

AlternativePerspective · 08/11/2020 04:08

As an aside, did anyone see the press conference held by the Trump campaign. It was at the four seasons..... the four seasons landscaping that is. 😂😂😂😂

Mamanyt · 08/11/2020 04:58

Trump was for Brexit because he wanted to sell Boris Johnson on America's health care. And droves of you would have died, or been buried under medical costs. Private insurance for a family is 1, 168 USD PER MONTH, and doesn't come near to covering everything. Then, before it has to pay at all, there's an annual deductible that must be paid, plus caps on how much the insurance will pay for an individual service, for an annual total, and for lifetime totals. ONE catastrophic illness can leave you out of coverage, AND deeply in debt.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/11/2020 09:24

@Mamanyt 🎉🎉🎆🎇🍸Ah, you must be feeling amazing! How will (or did) you celebrate?

I heard about that Grin it's a very David Brent-esque fall from grace.

Can someone please explain that to me though - why didn't he use the White House? I mean, maybe he's not supposed to, but that's not stopped him in the past? Did they change the locks while he was out golfing??

Frazzled2207 · 08/11/2020 09:57

@JesusInTheCabbageVan
It wasn’t a trump press conference it was specifically about the count in Philadelphia so it was in Philly.

Frazzled2207 · 08/11/2020 09:58

Sorry I mean it was obviously by the trump campaign but not specifically involving trump himself who presumably is too angry to speak to the media right now

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/11/2020 10:16

Ahh right, thank you!

AlternativePerspective · 08/11/2020 10:36

Sorry I mean it was obviously by the trump campaign but not specifically involving trump himself who presumably is too angry to speak to the media right now or getting in one more round of golf before the receivers come in. Grin

Biden doesn’t agree with Brexit as his priority is to keep the peace agreement, Impossible to do. I agree with Biden there. So I assume Boris will have to do some kind of a deal with the EU after all?? I mean what a mess. How could anyone have any faith in Boris when he didn’t at least foresee it was possible that Biden would win???
I am so happy for America, hopefully they can start to repair the huge damage done by Trump.
@Mamanyt I cannot believe how much health insurance is. How did anyone disagree with the idea of Obamacare ? How do people afford this? It’s terrifying that one awful illness could land you in years of debt or simply just not ha e treatment.

You've got me on that one, Janus. Apparently a national health plan, according to the Republicans, is a slippery slope to ~GASP~ Socialism (pronounced, invariably, as "SOSH she a lis um"). Us commies want FREE HEATH??? Think of the poor Insurance companies! Yeah, right. When they start their "slippery slope" nonsense, I remind them that Great Britain has managed to cling to that slope quite easily for the past 70+ years...perhaps not so slippery, after all? What it boils down to, if the truth were ever to come out, is that so many of our Legislators have hearty stock portfolios with lots and lots of insurance stock. Voting for national health would cut back on their private wealth...so we suffer for it.
Mamanyt · 09/11/2020 02:27

It did my old heart good to watch him return from golfing, passing by the enormous crowds celebrating Biden's victory. Sometimes, it seems, we screw up and get it right!
