The man is a graceless pig. 🤬

Cross post with Speccy.

I don't think at this point there is a legitimate path for Trump to win. Too many of the mail in ballots will be for Biden. Even if it's not the overwhelming numbers they have been so far, there just aren't enough outstanding ballots at this point.

Which is not to say that Trump will take it well.

This really makes me understand how modern day people all over the west would actually defend Hitler at around the 1938 point if history repeated itself.

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 12:18

@AlternativePerspective

Thing is, while it looks as if Trump has lost, there’s still a chance he could win, and given that the media, and several people from his own party have essentially written him off, if he does win I can see that starting out with a myriad of sackings etc etc not to mention demands of apologies from the press.
A chance so fleetly small to render is microscopic.

But yeah. If you believe in fairies Trump may still win.

sergeilavrov · 07/11/2020 12:24

By the number of votes in, where the remaining votes are and their numbers, as well as the margins, there is no way back for Trump - and he needs a way back somewhere. Not calling this now is just giving time for misinformation to spread. Fox’s Desk process means they should have called Nevada, and CNN’s process means they should have called Pennsylvania. News now in that senior Pentagon, CIA and FBI officials throughout chain of command to be fired by Trump due to his dissatisfaction and suspicions around the ‘deep state.’ Another step into dictatorship territory.

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 12:29

To put into some context.

Biden is leading Pennsylviania by around 28,833 votes. City officals say that there are 20,000 to 25,000 mail in ballots left to count.

On top of that there are 18,000 provisional ballots which are yet to be verified to ensure they are legitimate.

So to win the vote on the number of votes left to count, Trump would have to be hitting higher percentages of votes to him than Biden has reached in the bluest areas of the cities (which is where the majority of votes left to count come from).

This is pure fantasy land.

If Biden wins Pennsylvania he wins the presidency.

The only way to alter this would be via legal challenges. And you are now looking at successful legal challenges in multiple states for that to happen.

Its not going to.

I think the call will be made as soon as PA finish the remaining 20,000 - 25000 ballots.

Mainly because of the fuck nuggets still staying that Trump can win because 'maths'.

As if anyone saying this can do maths.

@Mamanyt

Good to see credit given to the residents of Apache County for their support for Biden. I'm British but I've been to the Navajo Res. I was inspired by the crime fiction of Tony Hillerman, an honorary Navajo, and spent several days driving from one end to the other. It's the size of Wales. As you say, the infra-structure is practically non-existent and they have suffered dreadfully from Covid. While we were there, there were warnings about cases of the Plague on local radio.

I recommend Hillerman's books about 2 Navajo policeman to anyone interested in Navajo beliefs and traditions - as well as being a cracking good read.

TheKeatingFive · 07/11/2020 12:42

In purely numerical terms he can win.

If virtually every uncounted vote is for him.

The probability of that is basically zero.

He can now only win if he gets all of the votes left AND some of the ones he's trying to get struck off.
RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 13:23

The provisional ones.

christinarossetti19 · 07/11/2020 14:13

Yeah. I can't work out if Pennsylvania are just enjoying their moment in the sun, or there are real barriers to the slow count!

Either way, it is just a matter of time and Biden is doing all he can to foster unity rather than division across the States.

ListeningQuietly · 07/11/2020 14:22

Yeah. I can't work out if Pennsylvania are just enjoying their moment in the sun, or there are real barriers to the slow count!
Both.
The Allegheny stuff is a shambles
and the postal votes rule was a rod for their own back
AND
they are determined to leave no room for legal challenge before they call
as I said on another thread days ago, PA has a long history of gerrymandering and voter suppression so they are trying to get it right this time

Parker231 · 07/11/2020 14:39

Seen a forecast that Biden will win with 306 of the votes.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/11/2020 15:09

I just googled the thing about Allegheny - seems the office sent out 30 thousand incorrect ballot papers and reissued new ones, but if anyone hadn't received it by 26 October they could collect one from the election office

Potentially, therefore, some of those voters could be holding not one but three ballot papers and I just hope proper systems are in place to make sure only one of them counts

What a complete and utter farce Hmm

sergeilavrov · 07/11/2020 15:11

@Puzzledandpissedoff Part of the reason counting takes so long is that they cross reference to make sure only one ballot is counted. Nevada has one of the most robust systems for this, which Republicans say is important because of the threat of mass voter fraud from illegal immigrants, and are now complaining that it’s unfairly taxing as it is taking time and has so far identified a case of a Trump voter trying to cast two ballots.

Kljnmw3459 · 07/11/2020 15:13

@speccylime there's no accounting for voters who will vote against something rather than for something. Trump may have said dreadful things about military people but I believe it's irrelevant to someone who opposes biden or Democratsin general. "Anyone but" mentality.

sergeilavrov · 07/11/2020 15:36

So AP is likely to call PA later this evening, when the margin between candidates is over 0.5 with a clear upward trajectory. God I hope this is over soon, I want to sleep properly. Curious as to what others anticipate seeing from the transition months?

Parker231 · 07/11/2020 15:40

Trump’s latest Twitter post - I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!

His lawyers are holding a press conference today- 4pm U.K. time.

Trump’s latest Twitter post - I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!

😂

Parker231 · 07/11/2020 15:47

Found this summary of some of the legal cases

Trump claimed, inaccurately, that poll observers were not permitted to observe vote counts in states including Pennsylvania. "BAD THINGS HAPPENED INSIDE," he tweeted. "BIG CHANGES TOOK PLACE!"

Yet, when the administration made this same argument and tried to get Philadelphia's count halted in a federal court on Thursday, the case was thrown out. Per reporting by The Financial Times, Trump's campaign lawyer was forced to admit its observers did have access to the count. The judge responded: "I'm sorry, then what's your problem?"

Twitter marked all four of Trump's tweets as disputed and potentially misleading. A large number of Trump's tweets posted from Tuesday onwards have been labeled as misleading by the platform.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/11/2020 15:47

Part of the reason counting takes so long is that they cross reference to make sure only one ballot is counted

Let's just hope in works then Smile As said I've absolutely no partisanship here - I'm not even American, though wish I was - but I sometimes can't help feeling these messes are a bit of a gift to Trump's undoubted mania

While on, can I also say a big thank you for your excellent, very informative posts on here; I find it really valuable to read this kind of thing instead of the all-too-usual drivel and hatred spouted on so many "political" threads

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 07/11/2020 15:48

He's like a petulant toddler - 'But it's MINE!!!!!!'

Kljnmw3459 · 07/11/2020 15:50

Well there you go, they can stop counting and recounting now because trump has called it.

ListeningQuietly · 07/11/2020 15:53

I guess its worth pointing out that the USA lets its citizens all over the world have the vote.

The UK blocks people who have lived abroad for more than 15 years from voting.
Even on issues that directly affect them.
