@Desnol as far as I remember Mary Trump has written a ‘tell all’ book about Trump. There was a BBC article and I think she blames Donald and his father for her own father’s early death (alcoholism). Which would explain why she’s so happy to bad mouth him on the news! I’d quite like to read the book...

I'm very concerned about an elderly man running the the United States of America. He's already showing confusion

Which one are you talking about?

I'm very concerned by how widely this fallacy has spread among people who can't be arsed to verify that what they're saying is based in fact.
Fefifofaff · 06/11/2020 23:12

*Trump on Twitter - great comment about your voters!

“ Philadelpiha has got a rotten history on election integrity.”*

It's because Philadelphia isn't his voters, it went about 80% for Biden. (Including my absentee ballot 💪) So to Trump it is enemy territory.

GlowingOrb · 07/11/2020 04:31

Even if Biden is having issues, which I highly doubt, it really isn’t an issue with a rational president. A good leader relies on the team of experts in the room. The problem with Trump has always been that he doesn’t listen to those experts. There has been speculation about several prior presidents that during their service they were unable to fully do the job, yet the country did not suffer because the people surrounding the president stepped in.

There is also a system in place for this. If Biden’s health does deteriorate, he can step down and Harris takes over. She is perfectly capable of doing the job and frankly, I’d love to see her have to step up.

I mean, he’s been showing confusion for the past four years and still been in the job.
Mamanyt · 07/11/2020 07:21

Supreme Court has stated publicly that they will NOT overturn the election. Period. End of story.

But we STILL don't know. Mainly because some states prohibit even opening mail-in ballots until Election Day, and due to COVID, mail-ins were overwhelming. However, Biden is doing well in Pennsylvania, and that's all he needs for the win. He's also doing well in Arizona (a typically Republican state). Should he win those two, even if Trump took everything else, Biden wins.

Arizona, BTW, had a wonderful group of people who toiled tirelessly on our Native American Reservations to get people registered, to (yes, really) teach them how voting works, and to transport them to the polls. That made the difference. You can't imagine how primitive life on the Reservations can be, other than a few smallish towns. Most people live like they did 200 years ago.

Tfoot75 · 07/11/2020 07:35

Both of the candidates were elderly, so no one was given a choice there. However only one of them shows clear signs that he's lost his mental faculties and that's Trump.

Quaagars · 07/11/2020 07:57

Exactly, I don't get this "elderly man" argument with Biden either - I mean Trump is in his 70s too, but no one ever really mentions his age!

AlternativePerspective · 07/11/2020 08:21

Tbh I think it’s pointless watching it any more because this isn’t going to be over for weeks.

Georgia will have a recount, they said on CNN this morning that Pennsylvania will likely have a recount, so we’re talking well into next week before any of that is done, and they won’t announce a winner until all of that has happened.

The result isn’t going to be announced today or tomorrow, even if he wins Pennsylvania on the first count he won’t be considered president elect until the recount has happened.

And who the hell is counting these votes? I know it takes time but bloody hell.... They said last night there were 60000 votes left to count in Pennsylvania and they still haven’t managed to do it...

The problem with counting is that we had an overwhelming number of mail-in ballots due to COVID. Many states do not allow the ballots to even be opened and removed from the envelopes until Election Day. Absolutely MILLIONS of ballots that had to be opened, removed, unfolded, smoothed out, and then fed into the counting machines. They should have allowed everything but the actual count to happen ahead of time. We'd know by now if they had.
Noshowlomo · 07/11/2020 08:36

@AlternativePerspective why will Penn have a recount? Biden is leading by over 40k votes?

AlternativePerspective · 07/11/2020 08:40

I have no idea, that’s just what they’ve said.

Kljnmw3459 · 07/11/2020 08:43

I think these recounts are a good thing especially in such a close race. Have they got the military votes in yet in Georgia? They could make a difference and I'm assuming would be largely Republican? Not sure about penn, looks like too big a difference between the two candidates but always better to be sure even if it will take another week............

It isn't necessarily true that the military votes would break for Trump. He's done a lot to upset the military. Also, what people keep talking about as military votes are not just military. So they may not be largely Republican.
@AlternativePerspective why will Penn have a recount? Biden is leading by over 40k votes?
In Pennsylvania, if the winning margin is less than 0.5% there is a mandatory recount. Biden's lead is currently just over 0.4%.

SpeccyLime · 07/11/2020 09:44

Not necessarily. Trump did a lot of damage to his reputation with the military by saying John McCain wasn’t a war hero and disparaging the military (calling dead soldier ‘losers and suckers’, refusing to lower the White House flag back to half-staff when McCain died, complaining about McCain’s funeral, disparaging the service record of four-star generals who are democrats, attacking the family of slain soldier Capt. Humayun Khan to make a racist point about alleged Islamic female subservience - and countless other examples. He still has some support in the military but these comments and his inability to set aside partisanship when it comes to military heroes has done a lot of damage.

Hopoindown31 · 07/11/2020 09:54

There will be recounts and the tonnes of spurious court cases before this is decided.

However I was watching last leg last night and they did also suggest that should trump admit defeat he could resign and then get Mike Pence to issue him with presidential immunity in the last few days of office. Normally I'd dismiss this as poppycock, but we are talking about Donald here.

Quaagars · 07/11/2020 09:58

(calling dead soldier ‘losers and suckers’,

Shock Seriously? That's awful, not seen that, do you have a source? Not disbelieving you, can well imagine it's true, sounds like something he'd say but want to see for myself as that's just..... wow even by his standards lol
SpeccyLime · 07/11/2020 10:04

@Quaagars I read it here: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/615997/ though it’s reported in a few places. The comments were made when he refused to visit an American military cemetery in France (allegedly because it was raining and he didn’t want that to make his hair go flat).

It's been suggested Trump could give himself a presidential pardon. It isn't clear whether he is allowed to do that. It has also been suggested that he might stand down so that Pence can give him a pardon. Of course, doing either involves admitting he lost and that he may have broken the law.

Even if he is given a presidential pardon, that only applies to federal crimes. He can still be prosecuted for state crimes.

Thing is, while it looks as if Trump has lost, there’s still a chance he could win, and given that the media, and several people from his own party have essentially written him off, if he does win I can see that starting out with a myriad of sackings etc etc not to mention demands of apologies from the press.
