No, not yet.

🤞 Though.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 04/11/2020 19:22

I’m hoping with every cell in my body but it’s not confirmed yet. He needs 270 and there is no way tRump will go quietly.

bluewanda · 04/11/2020 19:23

Really? I thought there was no way Trump could win now?

OP posts:
CressidaTheHeathen · 04/11/2020 19:23

No but crossing my fingers and toes!

bluewanda · 04/11/2020 19:24

Surely if you look at the maths and predictions there’s no way Trump can do it now?

Not yet, but even if he does, and I hope he does, Trump will take the result to the Supreme Court and try to get the result overturned.

Nothing's certain yet.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 04/11/2020 19:24

It hasnt been called yet. He should win Nevada,.and then he only needs 2 more and he is ahead in 2 of the states he needs. He should win, but there will be recounts and legal challenges.

Al Gore won in 2000, but the Democrats didnt want to cause a constitutional crisis by using all the legal avenues available. They wont make the same mistake twice so they will fight back. The supreme court may be weighted towards the right, but they will not want to cause a constitutional crisis and it will be unlikely that they will throw out millions of postal votes which would allow Trump to steal the election.

So yes, Biden should be the winner if the votes in 3 states goes the way it is expected and the supreme court should uphold the votes which have been cast. But if they throw out postal votes, or trump finds another way to argue then you never know.

bluewanda · 04/11/2020 19:25

I think we all know there’s no way SCOTUS will overturn it though. I mean, on what basis?

I feel so nervous....

Can’t it just hurry up!

bluewanda · 04/11/2020 19:27

I’m not nervous as Biden has clearly got this. It’s over and we have a new POTUS!

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 04/11/2020 19:27

Trump will take the result to the Supreme Court and try to get the result overturned

How though? I don't get why they wouldn't laugh him out of town, surely if it's a clear win ... it's a clear win???

pigsDOfly · 04/11/2020 19:30

It's an odd sort of democracy that can just throw out votes, but yes that's what could happen if Trump gets his way.

He seemed really subdued when he made a speech this morning. Given that it was 2am and he was probably exhausted, perhaps that to be expected, but I suspect it's because he knows he's on his way out.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 04/11/2020 19:32

I hope so..but keep hearing different things! This whole thing seems mad.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 04/11/2020 19:32

Al Gore won Florida. The supreme court gave it to Bush. These things happen.

If there are recounts, and questions over ballots then it will need to be litigated. I think Trump will concentrate on the voters who registered and received a postal ballot but then voted in person. That is allowed, but before the in person vote is counted they check to make sure no postal vote was submitted from the same person to ensure they havent voted twice. Trump will be doubt want to see proof of all of that or try to have those votes discounted.

lljkk · 04/11/2020 19:33

Usual hot air from Trump.
Lawyers are creative at coming up with arguments but the legal grounds for challenging postal votes are looking especially dicey. Some lawyers will still challenge per Grump's insistence, but we can hope the challenge will get thrown out fast.

So far the GOP keeps losing on efforts stop mail-in ballots counting, various states.

pigsDOfly · 04/11/2020 19:34

No, very unlikely it will be overturned as he'll have no legal reason for them to overturn it.

I don't think Biden will accept the dumping of uncounted votes either.

Trump won't go quietly though and a great many of his supporter are going to want to see America burn before they accept his loss. And he'll be egging them on.

It's not going to be pretty.

ssd · 04/11/2020 19:35

Fucking hope so.

thereplycamefromanchorage · 04/11/2020 19:36

Oh god I hope so.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 04/11/2020 19:37

Oh, Trump will fail but he is going to try and it will drag out, especially since he believes SCOTUS to be on his side and they've made some dodgy decisions in the past.

If Biden takes the states he needs, which he should, then he'll be president but it will be a bumpy road getting there.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 04/11/2020 19:41

I hadn't checked for an hour! I didnt realise he had Wisconsin. And he has Michigan despite the recount being demanded. Yeah. He should have this.

Just need to let Trump tantrum his way through the legal system.

WitchesSpelleas · 04/11/2020 19:43

The risk is Nevada - they're only 67% through counting and Biden's lead is marginal. Unfortunately they have said they won't be releasing any more results today.

If Biden loses Nevada the only hope would be Pennsylvania but their results won't be out for ages yet.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 04/11/2020 19:44

The postal votes are almost guaranteed to be skewed in Biden'a favour. Nevada should go to him.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 04/11/2020 19:46

If Trump somehow takes Nevada, he could still win. By 1.
Nevada are being soooooo slow.

Only 67% reporting. Get on with it!

PontiacBandit · 04/11/2020 19:47

I've just been having a look at the map on BBC. Huge swathes of red but interesting that within the states the major cities are blue, elsewhere voting for Trump.

WitchesSpelleas · 04/11/2020 19:47

Hoping so, Wherever🤞
