Trump has confirmed 200 federal judges, all of which have a life term. When you spend 4 years making sure those in the courts share your ideology who knows how things will go.

It is such a shame that it is so close, I think there would be unrest whatever the outcome but it will be dragged out now.

pigsDOfly · 04/11/2020 19:57

I'm hoping Biden will win, but at this stage they could be giving it to kermit the fucking frog and I'd still be elated

Yeah, I'm with you there.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 04/11/2020 19:57

@MagicSummer rather have an old duffer than a racist, lying pig.

TheWhalrus · 04/11/2020 19:57

Biden hasn't won the election yet, although if this were a snooker match, Trump would be needing at least two snookers to have a chance of winning.

My main hope is that Biden wins all remaining states as this would make it very difficult for Trump's lawyers to overturn a sufficient number of results to change anything meaningfully.

berryhead2013 · 04/11/2020 19:58

Nowt useful to say except why is the us political voting system so damn complicated whoever gets the lost votes wins surely what is all this talk of taking it to court and getting it overturned

ShowOfHands · 04/11/2020 19:58

Put "us election" into Google and look at the associated press projections which come up first.

Fefifofaff · 04/11/2020 19:58

Haha Quaagars if only! Wisconsin election law says if the margin of victory is less than one percent of the total votes then a candidate can demand a recount. However, unless the margin is a vvv small amount (like in the tens or hundreds) the requestor has to pay the costs of the recount, about $3 million.

Kljnmw3459 · 04/11/2020 19:59

@WhereverIGoddamnLike I'm looking at the voter numbers for the remaining swing states and where trump is leading he has a more considerable lead whereas Biden's lead margins are tiny, minimal. So based on that I would bet my money on trump at this point. Also Florida is usually a reliable indicator of which way this will go.

Inkpaperstars · 04/11/2020 19:59

I am v hopeful, but it is still technically undecided.

Trump could still win if he gets Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and then either of Arizona or Nevada. I think that is assuming Biden takes a congressional district in Maine that hasn't yet been confirmed, and takes Wisconsin and MIchigan.

user1471565182 · 04/11/2020 20:00

Nah, think of it as 5-3 to Biden in sports terms- hes currently got a bit of a lead but the defences are leaking and its still a very unstable game

Think of the huge numbers involved - including a high number of mail-in votes due to Coronavirus - it quite simply takes a long time to count them all.

Talk of taking it to court is simply Trump's desperate floundering. If he loses he'll try anything to get the result overturned.

sst1234 · 04/11/2020 20:01

Personalities aside, what realistically do you think it will change if Biden does win? Realistically, not just rhetorically.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 04/11/2020 20:02

@Kljnmw3459

The margins dont matter. Biden has (provisionally) 248 electoral votes. Trump is way below. The margins dont change that. The 2 other states which Biden needs to get to past 270 are almost sure to go to him once the postal votes are counted. The other states dont matter; they wont give Trump the electoral votes he needs.

sergeilavrov · 04/11/2020 20:02

@Inkpaperstars The remaining district in Maine is likely to be a Trump EC vote. Biden banked the statewide and 1st district vote. This should be considered a bit of an upset, as polls did project he would sweep Maine.

user1471565182 · 04/11/2020 20:02

If the Democrats are that pathetic that they dont fight back against Trump with everything in some misguided 'healing the nation' crap I will just give up on the world. Already given up on democracy.

Meowza74 · 04/11/2020 20:03

@manicinsomniac

Is the BBC massively behind? He doesn't have Wisconsin or Michigan yet according to them and is still only on 227 to Trump's 214. Doesn't look safe yet?

Interesting @sergeilavrov, thanks

manicinsomniac · 04/11/2020 20:04

Ah ok, thanks sergei

ShagMeRiggins · 04/11/2020 20:05

Al Gore won Florida. The supreme court gave it to Bush. These things happen.

That was the Supreme Court of the state of Florida, not the US Supreme Court. For the record.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/11/2020 20:07

I think Trump will concentrate on the voters who registered and received a postal ballot but then voted in person. That is allowed, but before the in person vote is counted they check to make sure no postal vote was submitted from the same person to ensure they havent voted twice. Trump will be doubt want to see proof of all of that or try to have those votes discounted

I've been wondering about that myself
It's also a bit surprising that so many states allow mail-in votes postmarked as late as 3 November, the actual date of the election. I'd have thought that a bit late personally, but there you go

EnjoyingTheSilence · 04/11/2020 20:08

🤞🤞🤞

@MagicSummer

Why do you all want Biden? He is a terminal duffer. Mark my words, if he wins, you will wish Trump was back in 3 months.
We don’t specifically want Biden. We want ABT; Anyone But Trump.
