How much do you care who wins the US election?

Background: UK citizen here, residing in the UK and generally don't trust politicians.

I may be weird but I don't really care that much who wins the US election. AIBU? Everyone seems to be obsessed.

I feel for the Americans if they get stuck with Trump for another 4 years, however that problem feels so remote from my day to day reality and worries here in the UK. And what do I know about Biden? Absolutely nothing other than he seems like a nice old man.

So do you care? If so, why?

(Obviously if you have strong connection to the US either by citizenship, family or business, I assume you will care. This question is mainly for those of us who don't).

I care a great deal. The result is important for the UK.

Holothane · 04/11/2020 00:35

I’ve had enough my dh has elections on morning noon and night when they’re on, it’s the same when we have them over here.

MrsAvocet · 04/11/2020 00:38

I care because the US is one of the most powerful nations in the world and I believe that having Trump at the helm is dangerous for us all, both because of his party's policies and his personality. Biden isn't perfect of course but from what I understand, he is a far better option than Trump.

SpeccyLime · 04/11/2020 00:39

I care because the trump administration is separating the children of immigrants from their parents and keeping them in cages, and that is an issue which transcends borders and party allegiances.

Marchmarch · 04/11/2020 00:39

I care. Trump emboldens other twats to be even bigger twats.

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 04/11/2020 00:40

I care a lot!

Trump is appalling and it has an influence on the rest of the world.

iswhois · 04/11/2020 00:41

I care because it gives idiots like BJ more credibility

I want the world to stop taking these fools seriously

raskolnikova · 04/11/2020 00:44

I care because I want the UK right wing populists to be less smug and awful.

ComtesseDeSpair · 04/11/2020 00:47

I’m a Brit living with a American in the UK. I care in the sense that it’s an important election for the world rather than because I think either candidate is better than the other. I think had I been voting, I’d have genuinely struggled to cast mine.

For what it’s worth, DP and most of his family and friends back in Michigan are typical swing voters; he and most of them voted Trump both in 2016 and this year, not because they are Republican or pro-Trump but rather because they are anti-Clinton and Biden and would have voted Democrat each time had they run a different candidate.

Rubybluesy · 04/11/2020 00:51

Of course we care! Nobody wants trump for another 4 years

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/11/2020 00:52

I care a lot. Completely baffled by anyone who doesn’t. Trump is revolting.

I was planning a long night of it but sod all is happening, I’ve eaten all the nuts in the house and I’ll be up with my daughter early doors so I give up and will hope for good news in the morning. I love an election but this one is stressing me out.

seayork2020 · 04/11/2020 00:57

I am concerned a little as what the US decides will actually affect the rest of the world BUT I also think people are also being melodramatic about it too and non us citizen who has actually no connection to the US and has never been saying things like 'I am crying tonight' type thing very dramatic

Songsofexperience · 04/11/2020 00:57

I care because if it's Trump, we won't do a deal with the EU and the deal we'll get with the US will only profit a tiny handful of people. I think our quality of life will greatly suffer here in the UK.

Davros · 04/11/2020 01:01

Nah, couldn't give a shit. Tweedle Dum or Tweedle Dee

NeverHadANickname · 04/11/2020 01:05

I am from the UK but live in the US now so not entirely who you were asking for opinions from. But, I obviously do care, I am desperately hoping for Biden to win. And from the point of view of the rest of the world, I think the country looks like a bit of a joke with Trump as its leader.

JollyAndBright · 04/11/2020 01:06

I care because whoever wins will have a direct result on the deal we have, or lack there of, with the EU.

I also care because trump isn’t just dangerous for the USA, look how much he’s done and gotten away with in the last 4 years, if he wins again that will be it, he will think he is untouchable and he will be 1000 times worse.
I genuinely believe he could kick of ww3.

Coffeeand · 04/11/2020 01:06

Can’t say I care, no.

NonCisWoman · 04/11/2020 01:09

I've got ten quid on Biden, so yeah, I do care Smile

Thedogscollar · 04/11/2020 01:09

The USA election could have huge implications for this country.

Brexit is looming and we need a good and speedy trade deal with the USA.
Bojo says ( though I wouldn't trust a word he says) the NHS is off the table as far as USA is concerned but we buy a lot of our medications from them and the American pharmaceutical giants want a much bigger say in the prices which could have huge ramifications for the NHS.

Do you want their chlorinated chickens?? Shock I don't.

My biggest worry is that the leader of the free world could end up being the reality show narcissist we have all had to suffer for the past four years. He is an embarrassment to the office he holds.....for now 🤞🤞

wonkypictures · 04/11/2020 01:11

Very much and you should too.

No way could I live with a Trump voter

SinisterBumFacedCat · 04/11/2020 01:11

I despise him. I hate the thought of another 4 years of having to see his stupid face on the news, or his idiotic tweets. If he wins he will be fucking unbearable. He’s a cunt.

GammyLeg · 04/11/2020 01:13

I care a lot.

Human rights, immigration, climate change policy - I could go on. Globalisation means that the US has a monumental effect on the fortunes of the rest of the world.

Barbzaaaaa · 04/11/2020 01:15

DH is American but I care because Trump winning last time gave the far-right nutters in other countries the confidence to crawl out of their caves. Another win would coax them all out even more

OhhCarolina · 04/11/2020 01:18

I care in that it's important who is in charge of the USA. Hence my name. I'm saying now that north Carolina is going to be a pivotal moment.

I'm also fatigued in that I find it almost incredible that out of the entirety of that massive country, it's a race between two elderly sex pests, one of whom is slightly better than the other.

Remember watching Obama winning. I fell asleep on purpose and kept the telly going, got woke up by the noise. It was genuinely exciting. This isn't.

Goosefoot · 04/11/2020 01:19

I'm in Canada, so to some extent the US is important as our largest trading partner, and we share a very long border with them.

But I would say that I am interested rather than invested in an immediate way.

To put it in perspective, I don't hang on worrying about the leadership of the Communist Party in China, but I think that China has a pretty big impact on world politics. Maybe it's more important than the US.

Trump is likely to cause more trade issues for Canada than Biden, but I wonder if Biden might take the US into more international politics again, and I am not sure that will be great for the world. But my main concerns about this election are long term, so I am not feeling much more positive about Biden winning than I would be about Trump, because long term, or even medium term, I don't think a Biden win is likely to lead to a more stable USA.
