Dear Haters

Is it just me or are other Mumsnetters being bombarded with ads, on this site, from the Scottish Government entitled 'Dear Haters' followed by we won't stand for transphobia, race hate crimes etc. I am unreasonable in finding it deeply offensive to be addressed as Dear Hater and do Mumsnet HQ feel it appropriate that users are addressed in this way?

Are these ads appearing elsewhere or is this an attempt by the Scottish Government to shut down debate on this site regarding trans/women's rights?

It's just an attempt to bully/belittle/sneer at you, Buttonit, I would try and rise above. It's exactly mirroring the tone of the advert and I would guess this nasty smearing, distrust and finger-pointing is exactly the intended effect of the campaign.

Like others have said, the algorithm selecting the right advert for you has decided you are one of the intolerant woke and so you will be impressed by the advert. Oops.

If you google penguin bollards that might change your adverts, especially if you go so far as to put one in a shopping basket.

You are right that the whole tone is way way off. Anyway why the blimming heck are Scotland spunking away money on this advertising. I'm always hearing that the government is short of money.

I agree OP those ads are bullshit. I wouldn't characterise the average mumsnet poster as a 'hater' and it just seems a bit fucking rude and unnecessary, really.

I've just been looking for info on the 'dear haters' ads on facebook. As I understand it, you should be able to access info on an ad, how its been targeted, etc, on facebooks page info. But the scottish govt facebook page just says 'this page is running ads' with no further information.

Does anyone know a way to access this information? I thought it was supposed to be clearly and transparently available.

Thanks, ILove. I've just been fiddling about looking at ad info on facebook. It's annoyingly opaque and there's virtually none on govt run ads. Settings can show who has got you on a list (or excluded you) but only a bit, recent things. Scary how much info social media holds on us, really.

Some will remember when Mhairi Black called women "cunts" by making an offensive word play on Jeremy Hunt's name. Regardless of the actual issue it was hugely inappropriate for an MP to call women she disagreed with "cunts" and hugely disrespectful to another MP.

I emailed Peter Murrel about this and never even got an acknowledgement.
