A group on facebook that I'm in.

Have never been accused of transphobia before and like to think I'm a tolerant and inclusive person. Quite socked and wondering if I am in the wrong here?

Clearly, I'm now close from being banned from the group. Just for context, it's a writing group.

The problem with everyone keeping their heads down, is that we’re very much at risk of this stuff being written into law.

Lots of women from Mumsnet (and other places, but Mumsnet was significant) recently objected to a government proposal that would have allowed any man to sign a statutory declaration and change his legal sex to female.

He would then be largely treated exactly as if he was female, including being processed as a woman if he was sent to prison for rape.

FleetsumNLangCleg · 27/10/2020 18:03

@ButtWormHole You’re asking on the biggest transphobic forum if you were transphobic? Wow.

I'm guessing you are one of the 5%. It's not transphobic to speak the truth.

OneEpisode · 27/10/2020 18:03

If you are up to it, you could comment that you didn’t study biology in 9th grade because you didn’t study in the US.
You are proud to live in a country where The Equality Act protects the sexes [maybe don’t mention both sexes] , Trans people, LGB people, and religion/Ethnicity/disability. And segue into the maternity leave we get in Europe, what with pregnancy also being a protected characteristic under our laws..,

Some of these US based posters don’t realise other countries exist.

Eckhart · 27/10/2020 18:04

Could you ask what 'actual facts of intersexuality' they're referring to, in the interests of your education? And then let us know?

Sexnotgender · 27/10/2020 18:04

Honestly the patronising 9th grade biology bollocks is so fucking ridiculous.

It’s not transphobic to state biology. He’s a twat for bringing intersex people into it. Intersex is not trans and they have repeatedly asked not to be brought into this.

Come over to the feminist board OP.

PlanDeRaccordement · 27/10/2020 18:05

@Whatsnewpussyhat

Sexual development disorders are not proof of a 3rd sex or that there are only 2 sexes. Genitals are sexed. They are full of shit. Health professional my eye.
Exactly. You know a certain number of babies are born with vestigial tails. But we don’t go around saying that humans have tails. The numbers of intersex and DSD are actually very small, each type is no more frequent than a baby born with a tail.
PostItJoyWeek · 27/10/2020 18:07

That bloke is clearly bonkers. Like he can't tell what's what when he's on pornhub or deciding whose speech to police. If you were Martin not Megan I bet he would have treated you differently. He is choosing to put you in your place you uppity heretic woman! You can't argue rationally with the Spanish Inquisition.

I say start up your own writing group, where you are the admin. Invite others in. Don't mention trans anything or woke anything. Just start up your own with you in control of moderation. His group will wither and die eventually. Religious zealots controlling creative discourse gets boring fast.

jennie0412 · 27/10/2020 18:08

For once I agree with something on the feminist board.

You were respectful and didn't belittle trans people, yet remained factual.

Smile
Vargas · 27/10/2020 18:09

They're like conspiracy theorists or members of a cult, there is no arguing with them. The word 'transphobia' is now getting thrown around so much that it is utterly meaningless. Sad times.

IncandescentSilver · 27/10/2020 18:10

I got accused of being transphobic by a trans male - female on a FB group once. Never met him, never debated with him but apparently I was transphobic because I refused to agree to give him legal advice on a subject I knew nothing about after he contacted me on social media.

He went mad, accusing me of all sorts when I gave him the standard answer to do a search for a solicitor on the Law Society's site under the speciality required.

I told him I'd report him to the police for harassment if he bothered me again, and blocked him.

yourhairiswinterfire · 27/10/2020 18:13

Transphobic? Where?

That poster probably has the same definition of transphobia as the person accusing the OP 🙄

It's been known which sex, the only sex (gender identity is irrelevant to biology) that can give birth is females since we were still knuckle draggers who communicated through grunting. Yes, grunting apes were more clued up that some of these people, or "healthcare professionals" nowadays.

They tell us to stop conflating sex and gender, but that's exactly what this man is doing here. Men can't give birth or have periods. Transmen can, and anyone (even with their basic GCSE grade, as he says) knows why. The science aint changing no matter how much they will it to.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 27/10/2020 18:14

I'm intrigued by the 5% of people who have voted YABU. So there are about 17 people knocking around the site who believe....what.....that men can gestate babies?

you've got to wonder how some people navigate the world if they can believe out and out nonsense

Weedsnseeds1 · 27/10/2020 18:14

Reminds me of this...

gamerchick · 27/10/2020 18:15

@ButtWormHole

You’re asking on the biggest transphobic forum if you were transphobic? Wow.
Yanno, it always baffles me how people who make statements like that only pick the easy threads to do it on. The more hard-hitting ones like the want to have a stillborn baby thread, there was none of these persons to be seen. Nobody went on there to defend that lady from all the 'transphobia'.

Why is that?

popcornlover · 27/10/2020 18:16

@MintyCedric
That’s good to know! I take heart that some people are like you in the industry!

@Goosefoot

Yep, to be truly “progressive” you have to exist outside a group, and basically think like no-one else. Plus all this awful bullying we are witnessing can hardly be deemed progressive.

Loveandtruth · 27/10/2020 18:16

You are correct.. it would be headline news if otherwise surely xxx

DisappearingGirl · 27/10/2020 18:17

You are correct.

However personally I just wouldn't engage any further on that specific thread. Why let him bully you off the group? Plenty of people will have seen your (extremely reasonable) points. Probably several will agree with you, they just may not feel able to show it. Others may agree with Mr Woke Admin and that's up to them. I think just speaking up is helpful - you don't need to have the last word or "win" the argument even though you are right

Mintychoc1 · 27/10/2020 18:17

Unless this is an American Facebook group, I’d call this person out on their use of the word “grade” in the context of the school year group.

murteplod · 27/10/2020 18:20

I identify as two people in one body. If you say I'm wrong or think I have mental health issues then you are obviously an idiot, since conjoined twins exist. Therefore I can be two people in one body.

Chocolate1984 · 27/10/2020 18:20

The answer to everything seems to be “educate yourself”. The problem with educating yourself is that it rarely proves their theory and they never argue or debate. Im happy to listen. Tell me why I’m wrong, change my mind.

I saw a Instagram post about a lesbian couple- one female, one trans women- everyone was applauding them for being so open about their lesbian relationship. So brave etc. I don’t get it, it was very obviously a guy with long hair, feminine clothes and no surgery. Him feeling like a woman doesn’t turn her into a homosexual or mean she will date actual women.

Purpledaisychain · 27/10/2020 18:20

Your first post could be perceived as transphobic just because you didn't put much explanation/detail but your 2nd post more than cleared that up. Your posts were not transphobic.

I'm taking this was a post related to women giving birth/people giving birth?

blueangel19 · 27/10/2020 18:26

Leave them to their fantasy land.

Ha,ha,ha....

JuliaJohnston · 27/10/2020 18:27

Your first post could be perceived as transphobic
In what way, exactly?

DelvingintoInsanity · 27/10/2020 18:28

Yes, it was a man and yes, he did have a beard.

The group is a writing group for time pressed aspiring writers.

The original post was a woman asking people's thoughts on her plot that involved 'a male becoming pregnant through experiments and homosexuality', whatever that means. I didn't respond to the original thread but simply noticed the response about 'gay trans men having kids all the time,' and felt the need to clarify, in the interests of the OP, that it was because trans men are biologically female that they are able to become pregnant, and the OP specifically mentioned a male becoming pregnant in her query.

OP posts:
EsmeShelby · 27/10/2020 18:29

You are right and not transphobic. There is no arguing with these people though. That's why they parrot "No Debate". because they have no arguments and are incoherent children.
