A group on facebook that I'm in.

Have never been accused of transphobia before and like to think I'm a tolerant and inclusive person. Quite socked and wondering if I am in the wrong here?

Clearly, I'm now close from being banned from the group. Just for context, it's a writing group.

I’m a translator and I use ‘they’ as a default pronoun and an alternative to ‘he’. None of my clients have complained. He/she and s/he are clunky and ‘he’ is sexist.

FWIW I agree with you op.

@CurbsideProphet you'll be glad to know that there has been a recent change in the way that schools are to deal with the topic of sex education/gender expression. They have been explicitly told not to say that you can be born in the wrong body/you can change biological sexual etc. There was a big announcement a couple of weeks ago - where mermaids and stonewall (I think) had to do a lot of backtracking. I'm hoping someone might have a link as my recollection of the exact details is a bit hazy. It was definitely a step in the direction of rational conversation about these topics.

Welcome to this brave new world where voicing an opinion of biological sex is "literal violence", rape threats towards women are considered acceptable by social media companies, and menstruators and should just Be Kind.

I'd love to know how schools, colleges, and universities are teaching human biology nowadays. Do they have to redact any text books that mention chromosomes, sex hormones, or reproduction in order to fit with the Twitter ideology of everyone is whatever they say they are. And how do languages teachers broach the subject of singular and plural? He / she / it, but can also be they?

Remember cervix havers, we should all stop being everything phobic and start being kind🙄

It would be so helpful if MN would explain why threads are deleted. Maybe tell the person who started the thread, or the person whose post caused the deletion, or what the complaint was.
It would be informative and useful for everyone.

Was the other thread on FWR?
That is probably why it was pulled.

They said there was name calling but I’d just finished reading it when it was pulled and there wasn’t. No idea why it was really pulled.

I’d have thought that most trans men wouldn’t want to get pregnant because it triggers their dysphoria.

Women don't have penises.
I used to be sympathetic to people with genuine mental health issues. But this is a sick fetish and a cult. If I'm a transphobia, or a terf, I wear this crown with pride.

It is good to see this discussion going on in AIBU and the poll indicates that most responders are not going to put up with hatred of women that we are facing. Older feminists were indeed the first to spot what has been going on for years and the issue has opened women’s eyes to the serious damage to some young people, and to many of us who were once allies. There are many links to legal actions being brought and most of the new imaginary legal policies are being challenged by brave women and girls.

Reminds me of when I was studying psychology and learned about the old ‘put a dog mask on a cat and does the dog turn into a cat’ test your did on small children to learn about how they understood permanency (or summit). Small children get it right (mostly). I tried it on my 3 year old niece who looked at me like I was crazy and said ‘it’s still a dog... silly’... it’s a dog...’. Do we now have a generation of kids who don’t believe that the fridge light goes off when the door closes?

Wait...WHAT?? The fridge light goes OFF???????

My 12 year old daughter told me that her bff is convinced that you can ACTUALLY changed sex. When she started talking to her bff and a couple of other girls, about the biological reality of sex and how, even if you have cosmetic surgery to give your body the approximation off the sex you'd prefer to be, your actual biological sex remain unchanged, she's was rounded on and called transphobic. She is not transphobic.

Ironically, she chooses to wear her hair in a short crop and likes gender neutral clothes and is constantly teased (by boys funnily enough) that she must be a boy because she has short hair. So much ridiculous bollocks being spouted.

It's nuts.

They're 12 ffs. This ideology is dangerous.

It's worrying that they even know the word transphobic. A ridiculous word in itself, no one is 'scared' or has a 'phobia'. I think 'phobic' should be replaced by 'anti' .
Your daughter sounds like a strong young lady, not afraid of expressing herself, you must be very proud of her x

Just caught up. No OP you were not transphobic to say what you did. Of course not.

I see no one claiming you were has explained their thinking. And I see Perfect is doing a great job educating readers on just how little evidence and fact is too often behind those arguing that trans rights have not conflict with women’s rights, and that women who are not directly impacted on a particular conflict should just shut the fuck up because it has nothing to do with them and that a woman with 47 years is considered not qualified to discuss how the loss of clarity around women’s rights impacts her.

Brilliantly done. They have stated they ‘know’ the issues but they clearly they don’t. Or they would have cognisant discussion points to counter women outlining where they see these conflicts.

@KnightsofColumbusThatHurt

Noone is asking or expecting women to give up their rights, that's just the perception,

Why do people keep insisting on saying this, when it has been hashed out over and over how this whole issue affects women's rights?

Rights for women to single sex spaces - whether that be in a refuge, a prison, any. place where they will be in a vulnerable state
Rights for women to play sport fairly.
Rights for women to be able to ask for a female HCP for an intimate procedure and be sure that they are actually going to get a female.
Rights for women to get fair representation without a 'self identifying woman' taking up that representation.
Rights for women to be able to name and define themselves as a distinct class.

I could go on here but I'm probably wasting my time anyway aren't I? All of those things are under threat at the moment. Maybe you aren't bothered about those things being taken away, but you don't get to take them away from other women.

Why do people keep insisting on saying this, when it has been hashed out over and over how this whole issue affects women's rights?

Quite. I find it really odd to desperately cling to an argument thats been disproved many many times before. Its similar to 'this never happens'. Despite a lot of evidence that it does happen, still its constantly 'no, it doesn't' Hmm

As for younger people being fine with denying biology, DSS is 17 and at college and he says most of his mates see the whole thing as a bit of a joke. Not the geuine people with sex dysphoria, as its a real condition obviously. But all the pronoun shite, and women have penises, etc. Most people, whatever the age, if they think even just for a minute about the topic/logical end game, can see the huge issues.

You might need to have a word with Stonewall then... This is from their website.

Indeed. All their rights based on the protected characteristic of sex.

Which dovetails quite nicely with the fact that they also think that sexual orientation isn't based on sex. And that homosexuality isn't same-sex attraction.

'Hilarious', though.

The woman bringing a case to the Royal Courts of Justice yesterday, would beg to differ.

I imagine she had every expectation that she had a legal right to not be sexually assaulted by a male rapist when she was incarcerated in a female prison and couldn't escape.

You agreeing that she has no such right is not something that most people would find funny, tbh.

What is funny, is that you think it's a feminist point of view.

If we could all just be NICE whilst our rights are dismantled that’d be better.
