To have a winter and summer duvet?

My husband thinks it's odd, but it makes perfect sense to me.

I like 4.5 tog for summer and 10.5 for winter.

We've done this for years and he's fine with me changing them, but doesn't understand it as he had never heard of it before meeting me and knows no one else who does it. Am I unusual or is he?

We've always done this, together with blankets. Don't know how one solution would fit all weathers. (Heating on high all night?)

Greenteandchives · 24/10/2020 13:40

I can’t believe anyone wouldn’t have a winter weight and a summer weight duvet. It makes perfect sense. I wouldn’t want to sleep under 10.5 tog in the summer! We change to 3.5 with a throw at the end of the bed in case it gets chilly.

SimplyPizza · 24/10/2020 13:40

I’ve never heard of this either.

MatildaTheCat · 24/10/2020 13:40

Well we have both but in reality we’re very rarely use the warmer one, it’s too hot. You can even Velcro them together but the very though makes me want to faint Smile

dementedpixie · 24/10/2020 13:40

We do too. 10.5tog and 4.5tog also

Ilikewinter · 24/10/2020 13:42

Yep have thin winter and thick winter, cant remember the togs though!

Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/10/2020 13:42

Isn’t that normal?
Otherwise your cook in summer and freeze in winter.
We do a 3 seasons then a summer one and just an empty duvet cover when really hot, (mainly just do I can make a tidy looking bed)

Ellebelle123 · 24/10/2020 13:43

I don't now but years ago I used to have 2 duvets which joined together by press stud / popper things so that in winter you used both and in summer you separated them and only used one.

iklboo · 24/10/2020 13:43

Totally normal.

missmouse101 · 24/10/2020 13:44

It's completely and utterly normal to do that.

randomsabreuse · 24/10/2020 13:46

I have 4 weights - Summer, Winter (plus spring and autumn). 4.5, 7.5, 10.5 and 13.5 tog.

2 each of 4.5 and 13.5 plus 1 each of the other 2.

I used to have one of those "convertible" duvets that was 4.5 and 9 tog which velcro together to make 13.5.

Would freeze in winter with a 4.5!

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/10/2020 13:46

I have a winter and summer duvet, although they are 2 that join together.

IamMaz · 24/10/2020 13:47

I thought this was a normal thing for people to do - although I don't as I'm always chilly!!!

pigsDOfly · 24/10/2020 13:48

My duvet has a total tog of 13.5.

It's two combinable duvets: 1 has a tog of 4.5 and the other a tog of 9.

The thinner one I use in the summer and the thicker one is good for autumn.

For the winter they clip together to form the lovely warm one.

How could anyone just have the same tog rating all year?

nosswith · 24/10/2020 13:49

Perfectly reasonable to me, or any other form of summer and winter bedding.

Ninkanink · 24/10/2020 13:50

Of course it makes perfect sense.

We keep our bedroom windows open throughout winter and don’t like to have the heating on at night. In the summer we use a lighter duvet, in the winter a heavier one is needed.

ShalomToYouJackie · 24/10/2020 13:51

Getting a winter tog duvet was the best thing I ever did! I think the winter one is about 13.5 tog and the summer is 3 tog.

fuckfuckingcovid19 · 24/10/2020 13:51

Normal

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 24/10/2020 13:53

I used to do this but I now just have one medium weight wool duvet. The wool seems better at regulating your body temperature and there's no clumps of feathers!!

floppybit · 24/10/2020 13:53

Yes, I do this. 4 tog for summer and 9.5 for winter. Goose down.

QueenPaws · 24/10/2020 13:54

Just one wool duvet for me (14 tog or so)
By the time it's hot enough I'm ok with an empty duvet cover and a blanket. Always cold Grin

InTheLongGrass · 24/10/2020 13:54

Absolutely.
Anything I'd want to sleep under heat wise in the summer isnt going to be suitable mid winter unless I keep the heating on all night.

Dishwashersaurous · 24/10/2020 13:55

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t do this. We have a thin and thick which clip together so have summer, autumn and the winter weights

Sunnywaves · 24/10/2020 13:56

Normal for me too. Just put my winter one on, its so nice and heavy.

Gwenhwyfar · 24/10/2020 13:59

@SimplyPizza

I’ve never heard of this either.
Seriously? Do you put more layers of covers on then? Surely you're colder in the winter and the summer. Totally normal and I'm really looking forward to moving to the thick and cosy winter duvet. If I'm in between seasons I sometimes just fold over my summer duvet.
