Cauliflower Cheese does not belong

Beaverdam100 · 18/10/2020 21:45

And it doesnt belong on a roast dinner either?

Love veg and love cheese but not mixed. Ergh, just no!

OP posts:
pinkbalconyrailing · 19/10/2020 12:23

cauliflower and cheese is a meal on it's own.

amusedbush · 19/10/2020 12:28

Cauliflower tastes like farts and even cheese sauce can't disguise it.

I agree OP - it has no place in my life, and certainly not in my roast dinner!

keeprocking · 19/10/2020 12:30

Surely it's up to individual taste, my late MIL couldn't understand that we didn't have Yorkshire puddings with every roast dinner.

keeprocking · 19/10/2020 12:32

@grumpycivilservant

What I'm earth would you eat it with if not a roast dinner. Roast dinner is literally the only thing that goes with cauliflower cheese.

This thread has blown my mind

I love it with a thick slab of smoked gammon. Hungry now.

Mmmm, cheesy farts. Grin

We have cauliflower cheese AND sprouts AND red cabbage with Xmas dinner. There's a reason we never have guests over for Xmas.

ODFOx · 19/10/2020 12:36

Cauli cheese is an acceptable accompaniment to roast beef; leeks in cheese sauce with lamb, bread sauce with chicken, parsley sauce with gammon. All in addition to gravy of course.
Pork doesn't like a milky sauce as much as a fruity one particularly but goes well with creamy dauphinoise. Go figure!

Yorkshire puddings only with beef unless it's toad in the hole.

amusedbush · 19/10/2020 12:47

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

Weirdly, I do like sprouts. I'd always been served them boiled to within an inch of their life so I wasn't keen, but I've discovered that roasted sprouts (or fried with bacon!) are delicious.

BreconBeBuggered · 19/10/2020 15:13

Seeing MILs mentioned makes me wonder if it's the individual recipe that's the deciding factor here? My MIL's cauliflower cheese is a very wet animal indeed, with a thin, spready kind of sauce. Can't see even the most ardent fan wanting that on the same plate as gravy. You'd need to serve it in a soup bowl for a start.

nosswith · 19/10/2020 15:14

Cauliflower cheese with a roast dinner is fine, if you like cauliflower cheese. I don't.

KatherineJaneway · 20/10/2020 06:30

Rare roast beef

🤮 Cook your meat, it shouldn't moo.

LakieLady · 20/10/2020 07:03

Bloody love cauliflower cheese with a roast. The combination of rich gravy and tangy cheese sauce is divine imo.

We sometimes go for a roast at a pub a few miles away because they do cauliflower cheese with it. When they bring your roast, they serve the cauliflower cheese separately at the table, because they realise that not everyone likes it, which seems eminently sensible to me.

They also give us extra large portions, because they know we love it. Grin

Imagine being this wrong about something.

I know! Roast beef is best when a good vet could possibly revive it Grin
Fluffybutter · 20/10/2020 16:02

YANBU.
I like cauliflower cheese but not with a roast , only ever had it with a roast at a car very once ,it’s not for me .
I prefer it as a meal as I have it with crispy bacon .
My dh loves cheese and loves cauliflower but doesn’t like them together either so you’re not on your own ,op

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/10/2020 16:04

Very, very unreasonable. Its the best part of a roast dinner.

Nope not wrong at all Grin
EternalOptimist7 · 20/10/2020 16:31

I love cauliflower cheese with roast beef or gammon. Goes really well. And just aim the gravy away from the cheese sauce. Result!

Gingerkittykat · 20/10/2020 16:37

I'm away to put a cauliflower and some cheese onto my online grocery order!

I've heard a couple of people rave about cauli cheese soup, has anyone tried it?

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 20/10/2020 17:01

Vegetables and cheese don’t belong together? No cheesy chips? No cheese on a baked potato?
CHEESE BELONGS EVERYWHERE

LoseLooseLucy · 20/10/2020 17:08

I absolutely love cauliflower cheese. Mixed with gravy? Absolutely categorically NO.

TemptedToSleepInTheShed · 20/10/2020 17:58

It bloody does belong on a roast dinner

SecretNutellaFix · 20/10/2020 18:10

Drowning cauliflower in a strong cheese sauce is the only way I can stand eating the stuff.
It does not belong anywhere near gravy- therefore should be nowhere near a roast dinner.
Some nice gammon is a different story altogether.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 20/10/2020 18:13

Serious question for those saying they like cauliflower cheese, but not with a roast.... what do you have it with?
Am I missing out on amazing opportunities to have cauliflower cheese?

LoseLooseLucy · 20/10/2020 18:28

I either eat it on its own or have it with some cheesy fishcakes from M & S with some veg.
Never ever gravy 🤢

makingmammaries · 20/10/2020 18:31

It belongs on my plate. Pass it over please.
