And it doesnt belong on a roast dinner either?

Love veg and love cheese but not mixed. Ergh, just no!

CauliCheese belongs everywhere!!

nowahousewife · 19/10/2020 10:22

It's the second best part of a roast meal after the stuffing. All roasts in this house have cauliflower cheese apart from the Christmas roast.

Graciebobcat · 19/10/2020 10:22

@Florencex

We never had cauliflower cheese on a roast when I was growing up. But having discovered the combination since, I think it goes perfectly. I don’t always include it though.
I never even liked roast dinners until I had one at MILs. DPs couldn't cook for toffee and the meat and veg was overcooked/soggy and we didn't even have roast potatoes, only boiled or mashed!
CaptainMyCaptain · 19/10/2020 10:23

You are very wrong. Unfortunately, it gives me terrible trapped wind nowadays but I used to like it with a roast. I was once served it with Rogan Josh, though, now that is wrong. It was at a large work Christmas dinner at a hotel not an Indian restaurant, obviously.

YABVU. What is the point of cauliflower if it's not drowned in cheesy sauce??

Bluesheep8 · 19/10/2020 10:38

It’s a bit like the urge people seem to have to have mashed potatoes with a roast. Just why?

What's wrong with serving mashed potatoes? I'm genuinely baffled by this Confused

grumpycivilservant · 19/10/2020 10:39

What I'm earth would you eat it with if not a roast dinner. Roast dinner is literally the only thing that goes with cauliflower cheese.

This thread has blown my mind

timeforawine · 19/10/2020 10:39

Totally agree OP!!!!
Same, i love cauliflower and love cheese, but cauliflower cheese [vom]

How did Rogan Josh feel about this smile
IMNOTSHOUTING · 19/10/2020 10:41

I bloody love it with a roast! Especially when there's cranberry sauce.

IamMaz · 19/10/2020 10:41

I'm with OP.
Cheese and gravy?????? No way!

timeforawine · 19/10/2020 10:42

@Grapesoda7

I love cauliflower cheese, if I go to a carvery, half my plate is filled with it.

I on the other hand, can't stand Yorkshire pudding.

WHAT?! Yorkshire pudding is the best! Especially with onion gravy

I felt exactly the same about this OP, until a year ago when I was having a Sunday roast at a pub. They brought our plates through piled high, cauliflower cheese included.
So I tried some.
You could have knocked me down with a feather etc etc.

CleverCatty · 19/10/2020 10:48

I used to have it by itself as a meal then added it to roast dinners and it's great.

Right now if I cook for more than one - hard as by myself but if family are over then yes - then I do extra parsnip, swede etc.

Ifailed · 19/10/2020 11:03

it's wrong because it's basically two different meals on the same plate, though I can understand why carveries do it as its a way of getting people to fill up with cheaper veggies rather than expensive meat.

I enjoy all the vegetables with a roast, even Christmas dinner, as much as I do the meat. It's not just cheaper padding and it's more healthy too.

My Sunday Roast yesterday:

Rare roast beef
Roasties
pickled red cabbage
carrots & mashed squash
Cauliflower & leek cheese
Gravy

It was awesome, if I say so myself.

KiposWonderbeasts · 19/10/2020 11:18

Cauli cheese is great with a roast.

YABVU

Trailing1 · 19/10/2020 11:23

Cauliflower cheese is fucking disgusting. On a roast it would be an even worse type of hell. yanbu, OP.

ktp100 · 19/10/2020 11:26

This has been debated before and was 100% proven YABU.

HellsBills · 19/10/2020 12:23

Now I'm imagining the perfect forkfull of food: cauliflower cheese, rare beef, horseradish. AMAZING! So yes you are being massively unreasonable.
