Love veg and love cheese but not mixed. Ergh, just no!

Am I the only one who makes cauliflower cheese with melted crumbly Cheshire (has to be Cheshire not a greasy cheese like cheddar) cheese instead of sauce?
My mum made it this way and it's much nicer. Also works better with gravy.
Always have it with Christmas dinner.

Enko · 19/10/2020 00:09

its one of my favourite parts of the roast Its not a proper roast without the cauliflower cheeeesseee

MadisonAvenue · 19/10/2020 01:35

YANBU. There’s no place for it anywhere, let alone on a roast dinner.

CSIblonde · 19/10/2020 03:32

Now I'm salivating at the thought of cauliflower cheese & home made chunky chips.... I'd eat it with anything tbh.

katy1213 · 19/10/2020 03:42

But not with Christmas dinner.

Herrera · 19/10/2020 03:47

Omg YANBU I can't stand cauliflower at all - it physically makes me retch - and with cheese the thought makes me feel a bit sick. And that sauce mixing with gravy 🤢 nope

It's like the rate my plate account on Twitter - a few weeks ago someone posted PEAS on a fryup, that's heresy!!

ventanaperrito · 19/10/2020 04:02

It belongs in the bin, it's a sad waste of cheese.

Beaverdam100 · 19/10/2020 09:35

@MyShinyWhiteTeeth I will say what i want. Go and get a life you very strange person.

YANBU. Only ever heard of cauliflower cheese on a roast on MN.

I really like it as a dish on its own.

LaBellina · 19/10/2020 09:40

YABVVU. Sorry.
Cauliflower with cheese is so good it should be a standard part of any meal including breakfast, Christmas dinner etc.
Only half joking Grin

OnCandyStripeLegs · 19/10/2020 09:48

Stupidly I married someone who doesn't like cauliflower cheese at all - I thought that would mean more for me. Alas no, as the children have inherited his mutant genes and so I'm the one stuffing my cauliflower cheese for one while they all retch in disgust.

And making a single portion of cauli cheese is hard.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 19/10/2020 09:50

Tabby. A gravy based sauce on the same plate as a cheese one is horrible.

bodgeitandscarper · 19/10/2020 09:52

Cauliflower cheese and gravy on the same plate are just wrong Envy (not envy)

weltonn · 19/10/2020 09:53

Yes it does! I only ever have it on a roast 😋

CarrotCakeCrumbs · 19/10/2020 10:05

YABVU it's the best part of the meal Grin

TheKeatingFive · 19/10/2020 10:08

With beef or ham, yes. Chicken or pork, no.

I didn’t realise I had such strong views.

CC and meat put on opposite sides of the plates to ensure not too much mingling of gravy and cheese sauce.

81Byerley · 19/10/2020 10:10

@Beaverdam100 I used to agree with you about the roast dinner, til I went to my Aunt's house, and was too polite not to try it.....

Frownette · 19/10/2020 10:10

YABU, I usually make a large cauli cheese on Xmas eve then we have the rest of it with Xmas dinner the next day :)

Anordinarymum · 19/10/2020 10:12

I want to marry Cauliflower Cheese

Anordinarymum · 19/10/2020 10:13

No it is not. You just use a whole Cauliflower and a whole lot of cheese:) :) :)
MrsClatterbuck · 19/10/2020 10:14

Love love cauliflower cheese and prefer it to just cauliflower on it's own. My mum's was the best but I don't mind it with a roast. Dh doesn't like it and I usually only get it when at a carvery.

FloreanFortescue · 19/10/2020 10:17

I'm new to the club! Never had CC with a roast dinner until a random trip to a carvery. OMG. Never looking back!

Graciebobcat · 19/10/2020 10:18

I don't eat meat and would be more than happy with cauliflower cheese as the main event, with all the trimmings. Yum.

Florencex · 19/10/2020 10:18

We never had cauliflower cheese on a roast when I was growing up. But having discovered the combination since, I think it goes perfectly. I don’t always include it though.

Qwom · 19/10/2020 10:19

Blasphemer!!
Cauli cheese goes with so much!
