@GuiltyPleasure

Tonight I did a cauliflower, broccoli, leek bake with cheese sauce & extra grated cheese on top to brown. It was delicious with a slow cooked lamb shank & rosemary & garlic potatoes. Proper home comfort food!
OMG that sounds divine, totally pinching that idea! Thank you.

Give yer head a Cauli wobble OP Grin

Longdistance · 18/10/2020 23:13

@Beaverdam100 have a word with yourself. Ffs, it’s the best combination! 🤦🏼‍♀️

SilenceOfTheEmu · 18/10/2020 23:13

Yabvvvu! Cauliflower cheese is amazing - especially with a roast dinner!

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/10/2020 23:18

To be fair, I'd probably only have it with ham rather than any random roast. Then there is no gravy as such, just honey type drizzles from the ham. Same goes for Macaroni cheese which is also ace with ham.

I'm not saying Cauliflower cheese doesn't go with other meats, just that I wouldn't generally have it with. I would have dauphinoise tatties though so same difference I guess, though those aren't always cheesy, it is a creamy thing with roast and gravy,

@GuiltyPleasure, that sounds divine. I am moving into your place.Grin

Wtf is wrong with you? Yabvvvu. Cauliflower cheese is one of the best parts of a roast dinner.

@MereDintofPandiculation

Cauliflower cheese is a meal in its own right. It doesn't belong with a roast.
Yep, this. Gravy should never be on the same plate as cheese.
NoProblem123 · 18/10/2020 23:29

No way to CC belong on a roast dinner. All that cheese mixing with gravy.
Weird Envy

@Beaverdam100

Love veg and love cheese but not mixed. Ergh, just no!

Why do you feel you get to dictate everyone else's meal preferences?

And the ergh, just no! comments always wind me up as it's so immature.

The correct thought process is 'I don't like cauliflower cheese as a side to my Sunday dinner but I understand many other people do - as we are all different!' Celebrate diversity!

We used to run free toddler tasting sessions and the children would often be great at trying the food. It was the parents making comments about slimy cucumbers or weird cheeses that would put them off. Maybe they don't like cherry tomatoes but I'm not sure why they are so insistent they know their children's preferences without them even trying.

SkiingIsHeaven · 18/10/2020 23:32

Had it with our Sunday roast today. Home made and delicious.

tulippa · 18/10/2020 23:34

Cauliflower cheese and gravy is amazing!! See also chips, cheese and gravy. Don't knock it til you've tried it!

That said it's a palaver to make at the same time as a roast so I'll only really have it when someone else has cooked it.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 18/10/2020 23:37

We've been having roast whole cauliflower slices accompanied by a cheese sauce for the last few years so people can choose for themselves.

ShinyGreenElephant · 18/10/2020 23:40

I dont like it but the kids do and it pleases me to see them enjoy cauliflower. Cauli mac and cheese is one of their fave meals. But it should be nowhere near a roast

PawPawNoodle · 18/10/2020 23:41

It absolutely goes and while I wouldn't go through the effort of making it myself, I will order it if having a roast out. You've lost your roast dinner privileges.

JustMeAndMyTins · 18/10/2020 23:42

How dare you. Cauliflower cheese belongs EVERYWHERE.

Time2change2 · 18/10/2020 23:43

Cauliflower cheese is ok but NOT with a roast dinner / Christmas dinner. Some members of my family serve it with xmas dinner - just revolting! Gravy and cheese mixing together 🤢

Time2change2 · 18/10/2020 23:46

@MyShinyWhiteTeeth you sound fun. It’s a light hearted post, no one is actually having a go at anyone for their food choices! Blimey lighten up!

CandyLeBonBon · 18/10/2020 23:51

@Littlebelina

Are you related to the poster who doesn't like cheese on a lasagne because you are both very wrong
I'm thinking the same!

Op. Wash your mouth out,

Cauliflower cheese wit a roast is the food of the gods!!!

Anniissa · 18/10/2020 23:51

Really don’t get all the horror of gravy and cheese sauce mixing - it all works pretty well for me. Not sure I eat cauliflower cheese other than with a roast. Now what I can’t eat with gravy is veg that isn’t roast, mashed or in a cheese sauce - plain brocolli or cabbage or green beans with gravy is absolutely not my thing...roast parsnips, mashed swede and carrot and cauli cheese or leeks in cheese sauce are my roast dinner must haves!

Didkdt · 18/10/2020 23:54

Not with a roast. No if for no other reason than because of what would happen with the gravy

CandyLeBonBon · 18/10/2020 23:54

@ShowOfHands

I have it AND leeks in cheese sauce with Christmas lunch.
NOW you're talking!
timeforanewstart · 18/10/2020 23:55

Can't eat cauliflower without cheese

CandyLeBonBon · 18/10/2020 23:56

@Ohtherewearethen

I don't know how to respond to this. I feel like you're not just letting yourself down but you've let everyone down here. You are so far over the line of reasonable you have entered some weird false reality where cauliflower cheese doesn't belong on a roast. If I were your mother I'd be sending you to your room. And only offering you cauliflower cheese for sustenance until you'd seen the error of your ways. You need a long, hard rethink.
