And it doesnt belong on a roast dinner either?

Love veg and love cheese but not mixed. Ergh, just no!

It is particularly delicious with roast lamb, we always had as a side dish for roast meat growing up.

I never even encountered cauliflower served without a cheese sauce until I was an adult.
I was utterly bewildered, why on earth would you serve plain boiled cauliflower?

I like it now with sausages or gammon or roast pork, or roast lamb.

YABVVVU. I love cauliflower cheese, the one I make is delicious Grin

I've heard a couple of people rave about cauli cheese soup, has anyone tried it?

I made a version yesterday, with blue cheese in at the end. 1 medium potato, 1 onion, 1 large cauli, simmered in chicken stock and then I added the remainder of my stilton block just before blitzing. Curried cauliflower soup is also nice; just add garam masala (and a bit of cream never goes amiss).

I agree with you OP.

Even worse though is broccoli cheese. I love broccoli when steamed or boiled but baked it tastes like how a fart smells. Combined with cheese and it makes me heave.

RincewindsHat · 21/10/2020 14:43

YANBU. Cheese has no place in a roast dinner.

Strokethefurrywall · 21/10/2020 14:45

Cauliflower cheese has a place everywhere and is a staple on ALL my roast dinners!

OnceUponAnEnzyme · 21/10/2020 14:48

It's people like you, OP, that make me sick. How you can stand to show your face here with those kind of views, I do not know.

Roast beef. Parnsips. Potatoes. Yorkshire puds, Horseradish sauce. Cauliflower cheese. Prob some uncheesed, unroasted veg as well. Heaven.

In the 1980s my mum went on a diet and exchanged cauliflower cheese for cauliflower with tinned tomatoes on top, and a sprinkling of cheese. It was very very wrong, and tasted of disappointment, but I was too young to move out!
I dont normally have cauliflower cheese with a roast but mainly because it's too much faff and creates more washing up....but it's definitely not out of place.

anothersleeplessone · 21/10/2020 15:05

We cannot be friends, sorry OP!

friendlycat · 21/10/2020 15:40

One of our local pubs does a fabulous homemade version with a marmite topping. It is utterly wonderful.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 21/10/2020 15:51

I've never understood cheesy veg with roast dinners either - the combination of cheese sauce and gravy just turns my stomach.

googlilocks · 21/10/2020 16:10

It so does belong, together with cheesy leeks too

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/10/2020 16:15

Try a leftover cauliflower cheese toasted sandwich and then tell me that...

Nat6999 · 21/10/2020 16:54

I love cauliflower cheese with a big fillet steak, Asparagus & tenderstem broccoli.

Pavlova31 · 21/10/2020 17:12

Had a cauliflower cheese meal the other which the Chef had added a lot of mint.
Usually love Cauliflower cheese bur was not so keen on that version.

Lougle · 21/10/2020 17:31

Listen. Cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing.... It's all welcome on my plate with any meat.

RunBackwards · 21/10/2020 17:33

It flippin' does. Yorkshire pudding however, only ever with beef

anothersleeplessone · 21/10/2020 17:37

I'm glad you've run and hidden @RunBackwards, it's the best thing for you!

Yorkshire pudding goes with EVERY roast!

DeciduousPerennial · 21/10/2020 17:46

@anothersleeplessone

I'm glad you've run and hidden *@RunBackwards*, it's the best thing for you!

Yorkshire pudding goes with EVERY roast!

And very nicely with JAM
anothersleeplessone · 21/10/2020 17:49

Hmmm I'm not so sure @DeciduousPerennial 😱

RunBackwards · 21/10/2020 17:50

Yorkshire pudding as a pudding, with jam or syrup is most acceptable.

DeciduousPerennial · 21/10/2020 17:52

A Yorkshire is just a pancake in oven form.

Trust me, you’ll thank me for this revelation.
