Love veg and love cheese but not mixed. Ergh, just no!

We usually have it with a roast, DD1 loves it. DD2 not so much.

PanamaPattie · 18/10/2020 22:19

Cauliflower cheese, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, carrots, peas, cabbage, mashed swede with lots of butter and black pepper, gravy, roast meat of your choice. Parsnips and Yorkshire pudding are the foods of the devil.

BLASTPROCESSING · 18/10/2020 22:25

Cauliflower cheese doesn't belong anywhere.

Leflic · 18/10/2020 22:25

It’s a good addition if you’re low carbing and not eating spuds. You get a bit of rich greasiness and you can have a crispy melted cheese top.

PuppyMonkey · 18/10/2020 22:27

You don't have a cauliflower cheese problem. You have a gravy problem. Vile brown meaty sogginess making all the lovely food taste mushy and minging. Bin the gravy, keep the cauliflower cheese and you'll be a better person.

Ohtherewearethen · 18/10/2020 22:28

I don't know how to respond to this. I feel like you're not just letting yourself down but you've let everyone down here. You are so far over the line of reasonable you have entered some weird false reality where cauliflower cheese doesn't belong on a roast. If I were your mother I'd be sending you to your room. And only offering you cauliflower cheese for sustenance until you'd seen the error of your ways. You need a long, hard rethink.

Clareflairmare · 18/10/2020 22:29

OP you need support. Something terrible has happened to you if you don’t appreciate the beauty that is a roast with cauliflower cheese!

VestaTilley · 18/10/2020 22:30

YABU. I love it.

I didn’t grow up with it as part of Christmas lunch, but it goes well (I think) so I have it as part of ours now.

It’s also delicious with red meat, particularly lamb, also goose and paired with braised red cabbage.

Lurcherloves · 18/10/2020 22:30

I hate cauliflower cheese it’s disgusting and so wrong on a roast

randomchap · 18/10/2020 22:31

Highly recommend combining it with a cottage pie.

We had cauliflower cheese with gammon poached in apple juice today, gorgeous.

copperoliver · 18/10/2020 22:32

We always have it on our roasts they won't eat cauliflower without cheese. X

newreality1 · 18/10/2020 22:32

Love cauliflower cheese. Perfect with a roast or Christmas lunch.

Cauliflower cheese with crispy bacon bits in it is wondrous. Fine with sausages as a side. No no no with a roast and gravy. You just can’t have gravy and cheese sauce on the same plate frankly. It’s illegal!

Yogawithmydog · 18/10/2020 22:34

Cauliflower cheese is gorgeous. Extra extra cheese please. With any main meal!

longwayoff · 18/10/2020 22:35

Always a great addition to a roast. But none of those weird Thanksgiving things thanks, they definitely don't belong with roast turkey. Marshmallow pumpkin pie or whatever, noooo.

RedVelvetDreams · 18/10/2020 22:36

I love the stuff but I always thought it was strange to put with a roast dinner

Babyroobs · 18/10/2020 22:36

YABU. Had it tonight with roast beef dinner and it was the best part of the dinner. We have it every week with roast.

toconclude · 18/10/2020 22:36

Properly cooked (ie perfectly tender but NOT mush) it's lovely. Goes well with beef.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 18/10/2020 22:37

I used to agree with you, and also thought that Yorkshires only went with beef. However DP cooks a mean roast including cauli cheese and Yorkshires every time and now I wouldn’t be without them.

He does tell me off for putting ketchup on my roast though Blush

SlopesOff · 18/10/2020 22:37

@ellenpartridge

Might be wrong but I think this is a north south thing!? I grew up up north and never had cauliflower on a roast. Down south it seems to be standard, in laws always serve it as do the pubs where I live now. I can take or leave it!
It isn't a North South thing. Never had it with roast when I was growing up and not until a few years ago and I have always been in the South.

Maybe one of the wanky TV chefs started it or one of the carvery chains and everyone else copied it, as they do. Except me and a few others on this thread it seems.

Holothane · 18/10/2020 22:38

I love it with a roast.
