And it doesnt belong on a roast dinner either?

Love veg and love cheese but not mixed. Ergh, just no!

I’ve just made cauliflower cheese soup 😊

SlopesOff · 18/10/2020 22:03

Cauliflower cheese just is not right with a roast, unless it is a Quorn roast or some other vegetarian roast. But it should never go near gravy.

On it's own, yes, with other veg, yes.

malificent7 · 18/10/2020 22:04

I have been to loads of carverys with caulifliwer cheese...i love it with a roast.

Justjoshin22 · 18/10/2020 22:05

@Littlebelina ha! I had the same thought. The lasagne person was mental. OP, you are being v.v unreasonable!

ellenpartridge · 18/10/2020 22:05

Might be wrong but I think this is a north south thing!? I grew up up north and never had cauliflower on a roast. Down south it seems to be standard, in laws always serve it as do the pubs where I live now. I can take or leave it!

Doilooklikeatourist · 18/10/2020 22:07

We had roast beef , Yorkshire pud , cabbage , carrots cauliflower cheese mashed butternut and gravy
The gravy , obviously , was poured into the Yorkshire pud and over the beef
Cauliflower cheese is a dish of the gods

MordredsOrrery · 18/10/2020 22:09

First it's the poster who doesn't put cheese on top of lasagne, now this Shock

You are DEFINITELY being unreasonable. On both counts.

PardonMyFrancais · 18/10/2020 22:10

@MereDintofPandiculation I agree!! It blew my mind when I found out people have it as a side - we always had it as a main!

But I’d definitely have cauliflower cheese with pretty much any meal. What a blessing.

JustLurkingAway · 18/10/2020 22:10

YANBU! Doesn't belong on a roast dinner with gravy

notso · 18/10/2020 22:11

It’s a bit like the urge people seem to have to have mashed potatoes with a roast. Just why?
Errr why not? Mashed potatoes and gravy are made for each other. It's so disappointing when we eat out for a roast and there's only roast potatoes which are lovely but you need the mash as well.

Cauliflower cheese is lovely, I spent many foolish years avoiding it as I hated macaroni cheese. Now I'm fully converted and have it at least once a week.

Aposterhasnoname · 18/10/2020 22:12

Cheese and gravy YADNBU

occa · 18/10/2020 22:13

Cauliflower cheese is a whole meal, definitely not a side dish.

DollyDoneMore · 18/10/2020 22:13

@MereDintofPandiculation

Cauliflower cheese is a meal in its own right. It doesn't belong with a roast.
The correct answer.
Alconleigh · 18/10/2020 22:13

The only purpose of cauliflower is as a vehicle for cheese!

Quaagars · 18/10/2020 22:13

Cauliflower cheese goes with everything.

Strugglingtodomybest · 18/10/2020 22:13

Cauliflower is revolting. Cauliflower cheese is just wrong. Cauliflower cheese with a roast is an abomination.

Rhine · 18/10/2020 22:14

It’s the best part!

DollyDoneMore · 18/10/2020 22:14

No, I’m from the south, London parents, sounds like a northern aberration to me.
TartanDMs · 18/10/2020 22:14

Mmm mustardy cheesy cauliflower cheese with crispy onions on top... perfect with roast chicken or lamb.

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 18/10/2020 22:14

Cauliflower cheese is one of my favourite foods ever. With all that oozy cheese sauce and all those golden breadcrumbs on the top. Goes with everything. Gravy can just sit by the side, that's ok, I can handle both.

YABVVVVU. But that's ok, I'll have yours OP Grin

ultrablue · 18/10/2020 22:15

Cauliflower cheese is my comfort food...

ShowOfHands · 18/10/2020 22:16

I have it AND leeks in cheese sauce with Christmas lunch.

chunkyrun · 18/10/2020 22:16

I'm seriously craving it now thanks

jessstan1 · 18/10/2020 22:18

I always served it with a roast, just didn't make the sauce too runny.

jessstan1 · 18/10/2020 22:18

@ShowOfHands
