To be tempted by this house

But not pursue it as it’s almost certainly very very haunted. It’s beautiful, I love it, but I just cannot cope with the number of ghosts that it looks as though it contains. AIBU?

That is so cheap, I would put up with any ghosts.
Quick google search on the area, I may just move.

PlantAddict · 10/10/2020 21:13

On the main road through the village, with a river which (occasionally) floods and smells because of the sewage.

AnnaMagnani · 10/10/2020 21:14

Either there is something catastrophically wrong with it or they are expecting it to go for double at auction.

There are enough people who aren't bothered by listing to snap up something with amazing features like that straight away and it's a very liveable layout unlike a lot of listed properties.

Lolaloveslemonade · 10/10/2020 21:14

The furniture is horrible and makes it look like a creepy film set.
The house itself is nice but the yellow exterior would have to change!!

AnnaMagnani · 10/10/2020 21:15

Grade 1 listing - that yellow exterior is there to stay!

StoneofDestiny · 10/10/2020 21:19

The chairs are for the ghosts to sit and have a rest - dragging chains around can be tiresome 👻 👻

Shizzlestix · 10/10/2020 21:19

It’s gonna go for lots more than the reserve. The kitchen is a massive let down, very much at odds with the rest of the very beautiful house.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/10/2020 21:20

My guess is £620k

littlepinkwinky · 10/10/2020 21:20

Be afrighted maid, tis riven with dark evil.

RonaLisa · 10/10/2020 21:21

I've never given ghosts a second's thought. It's a lovely house. If there were any ghosts, they'd probably move out in protest about me being so untidy.

BessieSurtees · 10/10/2020 21:21

@SchrodingersImmigrant

Something is off there, but I don't think it's ghosts. Why have 3 chairs aimed at the bed? Not 2, 3?👀 Why is there just so many chairs everywhere?
The chairs are where the ghosts sit in the bedrooms and bathrooms et al. 👻

Always heed the Sinister Villager who says this.
pilort · 10/10/2020 21:23

Beautiful but is it next to a road or is that a drive?

ZezetteEpouseX · 10/10/2020 21:23

what's wrong with the kitchen? I would probably swap drawing room and dining room but apart from that.

I would have thought that ghosts would demand a premium, pleasantly surprised that they don't Grin

I don't know the area well, around my neck of the world we would be talking a couple of millions.

Over 4500sqft of accommodation, can't see it selling for much less unless a very bad structural issue or some weird development plans ruining the area.

I am sure people bidding will have a better clue!

Happymum12345 · 10/10/2020 21:26

It’s been for sale on and off for years. It is by the road, but there is a low speed limit through the village-i think it’s 20 miles per hour.

FOJN · 10/10/2020 21:26

I'm sure that house was on the market in 2016, I remember the dresser in the kitchen. I saw it when I was looking and not sure where I wanted to buy. I note it last sold in 2011 so I wonder how long the current owners have been trying to move.

Bluntness100 · 10/10/2020 21:27

That’s interesting, if it’s been on and off for sale for years, and now it’s at auction, and the price is low, there is something wrong here. My money is on subsidence or something similar. It’s going to cost a shit lot to put it right. Hence the low price.

jessstan1 · 10/10/2020 21:28

I don't believe in ghosts but I do believe that places can absorb an atmosphere. There must be a reason why a seven bedroomed house in a good area is so cheap.

FancyAnOlive · 10/10/2020 21:30

It must be falling down. Maybe dry rot or similar? Also despite its beauty it is right on the road and that would still put me off. Sorry.

PeppermintPasty · 10/10/2020 21:31

The council tax alone would scare me to death, never mind the ghosts.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 10/10/2020 21:36

Why must it? Hmm

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/10/2020 21:40

If you look at street view it has totally different colour outside

sst1234 · 10/10/2020 21:41

@ZaraCarmichaelshighheels

I’ve seen this house on Escape to the Country a couple of years back, wonder how long they have been trying to sell it?
Exactly, buying something like this means you are stuck with forever. Beware OP.
BlackeyedSusan · 10/10/2020 21:42

it looks a bugger to heat, and draughty with all those open fire places. it looks like it is near a river from the first photo. there is hardly any space out the back, the garden is to the side so not secluded, but right next to the road. the road, as mentioned above is an a road. there is space for only one car in the coach house, where would the other car/cars go? too many staircases, not enough bathrooms for somewhere so big. not really suitable for young families, nor ones with older kids who may want more than one car.

It is beautiful though, if not practical.
