To be tempted by this house

But not pursue it as it’s almost certainly very very haunted. It’s beautiful, I love it, but I just cannot cope with the number of ghosts that it looks as though it contains. AIBU?

Just looked at it again and felt even more freaked out by the same two rooms Confused Rooms 16 and 21 give me a really awful vibe...is it just me?

Sevo7 · 10/10/2020 20:53

Photos 16 and 21 I mean

StanfordPines · 10/10/2020 20:54

After a second look I wondered if it flooded.
Interesting to hear, @Madcats.

Bleepbloopblarp · 10/10/2020 20:55

It must be in the arse end of nowhere for that price! Stunning house though.

Doobiedooo · 10/10/2020 20:55

SchrodingersImmigrant’s annotated pics, p2. Funny 😆

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/10/2020 20:55

I bet it’ll go for an awful lot more than £450k - they price low to get people in.
Dh and I once went to an auction where an equally ‘special’ house was up for grabs - priced at £300k. It sold for £500k.

Gertrudetheadelie · 10/10/2020 20:56

@SchrodingersImmigrant

Hurrah! I found one last week on rightmove that described itself as a 17th century Manor (which it did look like, on the outside) but inside looked painfully generic. My heart sank a little as I was hoping for a decent bit of property porn!

Ellmau · 10/10/2020 20:57

I am not sure if they would lose the reservation fee if they backed out due to structural issues, but it would still be cheaper anyway👀

I think they would judging by this: The winning bidder, assuming the reserve is met, is granted exclusivity of the property at the winning bid price for 28 days in which they must exchange or the vendor is free to remarket the property and the reservation fee will not be returned. The auction will run for 3 hours on a set date and time chosen by the vendor of the property. Upon completion of a successful auction the winning bidder will be required to pay a non-refundable reservation fee of 3% inclusive of VAT of the winning bid in addition to the purchase price subject to a minimum fee of £4,800 inclusive of VAT.

Nightmare to heat!

whenwillthemadnessend · 10/10/2020 20:58

You can't get rid of the portraits as that when the spirits will get angry Shock

Jellykat · 10/10/2020 20:58

21 definitely ghosties ahoy.

I reckon the place has a damp problem too, look at the chimney exterior and wall around it.

Wibblypiggly · 10/10/2020 20:59

Cannot get over how cheap that is. It must be structurally fucked. Round where I live that will get you a small terrace house with character or a nasty 30s semi.

GrandAltogether · 10/10/2020 20:59

@Hotcuppatea

I'd be more put off by it being right on the road.
Exactly. Otherwise it’s very pretty and liveable.
Madcats · 10/10/2020 21:01

You would have to google which bits of Croscombe flooded last week (or nip down there). If you look on street view you can see a willow and the stream (it's almost like a culvert).

I THINK this bit is a little higher up the hill, but for info: www.itv.com/news/westcountry/2020-10-05/clean-up-operation-underway-in-croscombe-after-homes-affected-by-flooding

Ellmau · 10/10/2020 21:01

I rather like the house itself, but I note 7 bedrooms and only 1 bathroom.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/10/2020 21:01

@Ellmau that suggests that yeah. I was thinking that the legal pack people can see beforehand would have the sellers form and they should declare issues like that? 🤔

GlitteriestFluff · 10/10/2020 21:02

YABU to use MN to publicise your house sale...

toffeekiwi · 10/10/2020 21:03

@Aquamarine1029

Too close to the road and why do the bedrooms have so many chairs directly facing the beds? Confused
It's haunted by medics from the past and they need chairs so they can watch their victims the residents of the house as they sleep.
MissPinkCakeyBun · 10/10/2020 21:03

It's on a very busy road sadly

MissPinkCakeyBun · 10/10/2020 21:06

Not to mention Grade 1 listed so going to cost an absolute fortune and then some to do anything to it

Ellmau · 10/10/2020 21:06

@Ellmau

(Plus one en suite. Which leaves a mere six bedrooms to share the main bathroom, two of them from a different floor.)
nevermorelenore · 10/10/2020 21:06

The chairs facing the beds are for when the lady of the house gives birth. It's so the doctor, apothecary and all the wise men of the village can sit and witness it.

I'd buy this house and rent it out to TV and film crews. There's got to be a couple of Austen novels they've not done yet.

yoyo1234 · 10/10/2020 21:09

Gorgeous.... But did you spot it's near Midsomer.........

2020again · 10/10/2020 21:09

what is photo 17?

StanfordPines · 10/10/2020 21:11

Not so. My parent’s house is grade 1. It’s not really much of a problem.
