To be tempted by this house

But not pursue it as it’s almost certainly very very haunted. It’s beautiful, I love it, but I just cannot cope with the number of ghosts that it looks as though it contains. AIBU?

That rocking chair screams night time ghost rocking..house is gorgeous but no way could I live in it. Definitely a home for ghosts.

Dinocan · 11/10/2020 07:45

I drive past that house every so often and always think how lovely it would be to have the money to restore. I’m assuming it needs it as it hasn’t sold for ages and ages. But it’s certainly creepy!

Dinocan · 11/10/2020 07:46

In photo 17 what are those creepy little bug/wasp faces peering up from the floor?!!!

shesgonebatshitagain · 11/10/2020 07:47

@VeggieSausageRoll

So many chairs
I know. The three ikea ones in the semi circle in the first bedroom photo in particular
mrsbeeton999 · 11/10/2020 07:51

At least they’ll be hippy peace loving ghosts round there

picklemewalnuts · 11/10/2020 08:17

I wonder if it's been used as conference or retreat centre. The extra chairs would allow delegates to socialise in bedrooms.

picklemewalnuts · 11/10/2020 08:25

They aren't bug faces! Look closer! The most un creepy imaginable... rudolf reindeer made out of logs!

Dinocan · 11/10/2020 08:26

I’m not sure this house is owned by the landmark trust. I think they own the ‘old hall’ in Coscombe and this is the ‘old manor’ but Wikipedia and other websites have used pictures of them interchangeably.

toastfiend · 11/10/2020 08:47

It's a beautiful house. I'd be very wary of buying it without a massive budget in place for restoration, though. My parents own a beautiful listed house, which has had several structural issues over the years, and the faff and expense is massive.

Wiki has the wrong image, but to be fair it’s not known for its accuracy..,if you look at the historic England listing data it is this property and it’s owned by the landmark trust. The listing data will be accurate.

My mums house is 700 years old. There are no ghosts because they dint exist.

The house is beautiful.

They just don't show to you because they won't waste all that cosmic energy on a non believer😁
Howlooseisyourgoose · 11/10/2020 21:14

I never thought this is possible I but that bathroom is too big. Nightmare to heat and I would be scared to be alone in the house alone at night.

Harryhenderson10 · 11/10/2020 21:22

I love that house, it's gorgeous!

Definitely not haunted it looks too lovely to be haunted and seems to have a really nice feel from the photos (of course it might be hideously drafty and damp IRL).

Hazelmazel · 11/10/2020 21:37

A few years back we almost bought a house along the river a bit from there, wasn't very long after the really bad floods. Couldn't get house insurance because of the house's proximity to the river. Well, we could but only one insurer would consider it and it would have cost us £10k a year. We pulled out. This house is in a similar location and must be a complete money pit. Croscombe seems to flood fairly regularly to a certain extent, I'm not at all surprised it's not selling!

HoobleDooble · 11/10/2020 21:43

I love this one near me, but would wind myself up to jumpy pooing point the first time I had to spend any time alone there! 😁

Gorgeous and an absolute steal ( running costs would be eye watering though)

Madcats · 12/10/2020 13:32

The advantage of buying a house within a few minutes drive of the city of Wells is that there ought to be plenty of clergy who could be on hand to do an exorcism (and Glastonbury isn't too far away if you fancied a new age approach).

My 230 year old house must have seen plenty of deaths, but it has a happy soul.

That is a beautiful house. I’d love it. Where I live that would be 3x the price.

Moutarde · 12/10/2020 15:58

That's a lovely house.

Without a doubt the dude in the painting is going to come alive in the night and try and bum you to death though. 100%.

I have a friend with not dissimilar portraits of some early 19thc ancestors, but they're hanging in a chic, minimalist 70s-built flat, and I have spent dozens of nights sleeping in the room where they hang without any of them climbing down and developing pyromaniac tendencies!
