to think you only buy a LV handbag to show off how wealthy you are?

I'm not disputing their quality, as having watched a lot of construction videos they do seem reasonably well-made, but the monogrammed "leather" is just so ugly.

A bog-standard tote will set you back £1200 - handmade bags made by lesser known brands/designers in full-grain, veg tan leather would cost less and be far more attractive. (And higher quality too)

Seeing as we wear things to make a statement about ourselves (for the most part) and considering the bags aren't aesthetically pleasing, the statement, in this case, must be "look how much money I have"?

@damnthatanxiety

What is this weird belief that cow skin is somehow 'better' than anything else? It's just a material. It's no more inherently better than anything else.
Leather (which isn't restricted to cows btw) is almost certainly better than most materials when it comes to making luggage and bags - a good quality leather will not only take a huge amount of wear and tear, but it will age gracefully and can be restored beautifully. There are very few none materials that can say the same.

So yes, leather is better than most things in that regard.

All the posters claiming that they assume every LV bag they see is fake, this says more about the area you live in and the kind of people you share it with than anything else tbh, lol.
I'm not an LV owner and wouldn't claim I could always tell a fake, but I would be able to make a good guess based on the person's hair and what else they were wearing.

Beaverdam100 · 12/10/2020 23:16

I agree.

Think that says more about you to be honest...

I’ve got 15/20 Mulberry bags. All genuine and I live in jeans and jumpers. Often just got my hair thrown up in a bun and no makeup.

I think you missed the point too... your description is exactly what wowstardwow meant ... 🌺

Apologies if I misunderstood Flowers

queenofarles · 13/10/2020 11:00

I bet Louis Vuitton really hates the Neverfull
Grin.
It’s entry level product to the brand and It does give an impression of "I’m Financially capable of buying designer". But that doesn’t mean people only buy it for that reason, I bet many like the bag, and probably feel buying an LV is a safe choice, they are well made.

happilybemused · 13/10/2020 18:32

@BlueThistles the voice of reason on this thread.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Just because someone has a designer bag (any brand) I would not assume they were wealthy.

Cut of clothes, watches, jewellery, hair cut/ colour etc.

Plenty of the messy bun, jeans and jumper around here. Plus above.

So hopefully to finally answer the original question. People do not buy LV bags to look rich. Or any bag,

There are far too many other tells.

Ginfordinner · 13/10/2020 19:02

Why does anyone need 15 handbags? Confused

And who has so many designer bags that they don't even know how many they own?

Shxx · 13/10/2020 20:02

I can personally tell a fake LV even if someone is wearing it.
How is mulberry lower end as well? At least their gold doesn't rub off like prada.

Asp ldn, MK, Coach and Kate spade are lower end designers, a lot of people also wear fakes of these.

Different ones for different occasions. Differing amounts of things to carry. Why is that beyond comprehension Confused
Sexnotgender · 13/10/2020 20:25

And I’ve just added them up, I have 17 if it makes you feel better that I now know how many I own.

mummycanihaveadrink · 13/10/2020 20:36

@Elphame

I have a couple of LV bags that I was given but never use. One's a backpack which really isn't my style and the other is a make up bag but it's too small to be useful

Should put them on ebay I guess

Ooh I would buy the backpack on eBay! Definitely Put it on

Me! I couldn’t tell you to the nearest multiple of ten how many designer bags I own.
VinylDetective · 13/10/2020 20:49

We all have lots of things we don’t need, don’t we? I have no idea how many bags I own.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/10/2020 21:35

Ooh are we doing a count up? Errrm let's see. I have 6 Mulberrys, 3 LVs and a Gucci. Currently saving up for another LV. 😊 👜

Noooo, you monster. Why do you possibly need ALL those bags? Surely an Asda carrier bag will suffice?

Let me guess, instead of buying the next bag we really should donate that 4 figure amount to charity? 🙄
Twiggywinkle13 · 13/10/2020 22:13

I very much enjoy mine, tacky 🙄 wear whatever you want. Don’t criticise others because you don’t like certain things. There’s lots of things I don’t like, so I don’t wear those things or buy them - maybe try that.

Ginfordinner · 13/10/2020 22:20

Blimey. You must all go out a lot.

PhlegmyHead · 14/10/2020 10:21

Considering the scorn laid upon millionaires and billionaires on here - may I ask at what point it is unreasonable to spend money on designer handbags over charity?
There must be a cut off point?

I purchased myself the never full tote with pink interior and I absolutely love it. It's a great bag and I wanted it for so long. I don't like the bag in any other styles or colours and wouldn't buy another one.
I also have a mulberry and Ysl bag. I keep them good and only use them for nice occasions. I didn't buy then to show off

Janegrey333 · 14/10/2020 10:29

Collecting “designer handbags” is on the tacky side. It’s actually quite ludicrous.

Noitjustwontdo · 14/10/2020 10:30

I always think they’re fakes when I see them tbh, there’s so many fakes around in market stalls so they look quite cheap to me even if they’re the real deal.

I concur. So what’s the point?!
