Break the law, admit it in court, go to prison. Simple. Not sure what the sad faces and holding the photo is all about.

I love APILN Grin

Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 18:53

Yes great sad faces. But going to prison for two weeks for going to Tesco to buy some lunch? Hello?

Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 18:56

Paedophile. Break the law.. Admit it. Suspended sentence.
But let's laugh at these 5 men going to their work.

Downwithcovid · 04/10/2020 18:56

They didn’t buy lunch they bought beer. All their food and drink they needed was available at their hotel and they had signed contracts to say that by being allowed to travel here while the borders were closed they wouldn’t go to any public places.

Their supervisior, who stayed int the van, had also told them.

They chose to break the law and put 85,000 who are living completely normal lives at risk - so they were punished

Surely there has to be more to this?

If not, then it’s the biggest over reaction. 2 weeks in jail for going to the Tesco in the IOM?

Pollyputthepizzaon · 04/10/2020 18:58

Isle of Man is not part of the U.K. they are Covid free and would like to stay that way. If you want to visit then follow the law.

Simples.

D4rwin · 04/10/2020 19:00

The mirror downplaying the stunt they pulled there. But yes. It's a proper sad face pic. Where they're having a good whinge about rules applying to them and everyone.

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 04/10/2020 19:01

Must admit I burst out laughing this morning. The one on the right looks like she’s been practising that face for weeks 😆 2 weeks in the prison laughed about for being so soft in that documentary a few months ago is hardly going to break them. They knew the rules and they knew the punishment. But hey, I don’t follow the rules at home so why should I here? You can’t tell me what to do... Erm, yes we can!

Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 19:02

@downwithcovid Buying alcohol. Perhaps they should have put the in the square and stoned them instead.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/10/2020 19:02

They knew the rules. IOM wants to stay Covid free so that they can go about life as normal (and holiday in Guernsey, also Covid free with the same rules)

WaffleCash · 04/10/2020 19:03

Not sure why they're bringing UK politicians into it, IoM is not the UK, so it's irrelevant how many UK politicians have broken UK laws/guidelines.

SummerHouse · 04/10/2020 19:03

I can't believe they were sent to prison, for that. That's really unfair.

Downwithcovid · 04/10/2020 19:07

@SummerHouse

No it’s not. They broke the law, and it’s punishable by prison sentence as everyone who has been found to have breached the regulations (with the exception of one lot who got a suspended sentence and fine and were shipped straight home) has been.

Doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from. Break the law and put the community and economy at risk and you get banged up (in a cushy prison)

Its in the Isle of Man. The Isle of man has it's own laws and own court system.

Those sad faces should go in the sad face hall of fame. Legendary!

TitianaTitsling · 04/10/2020 19:46

Why are the iom giving contracts to people from elsewhere then?

Pollyputthepizzaon · 04/10/2020 19:50

@TitianaTitsling it’s a small island they don’t have the workforce/skills for every job and often contract in skills.

These men would have been bloody aware of the regulations to self isolate when they took the job.

Isle of Man isn’t in the U.K., has its own law and courts and has NO COVID. Like Guernsey, it wants to stay that way.

They have no social distancing, no masks, schools all open, normal life. How dare people from the U.K. come in and jeopardise all that for the islanders.

Downwithcovid · 04/10/2020 19:53

@TitianaTitsling

Because with a population of 85,000 there simply isn’t the market for people to be trained in certain skills and live here.

In fact, in a lot of cases people wouldn’t even get enough experience to build and maintain the skill sets.

We don’t even have proper trains. These guys were here to work on a tourist railway. There isn’t enough railway line (probably less than 50 miles) to have people trained in that.

Likewise various medical roles, serving MRI scanners, fixing fire engines, fixing baggage carousels at the airport (we only have one carosel) and hundreds of other jobs

Well I think they went to prison for breaking quarantine laws and that fact it was Tesco is by the by

But feel free to minimise

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 04/10/2020 20:02

So they're good enough to do the work. Safe and healthy enough to work , their contract was shorter than the self isolation period, but too risky to go to a shop and buy something?

Cadent · 04/10/2020 20:05

YABU. The article says they bought lunch, not beer. Why are you lying, OP?

2 weeks for buying lunch with a mask on is draconian.

So tired of these little islanders posting on here with glee. Similar to Bournemouth, was there on the last warm day of September and local residents were miserable! The staff in Bournemouth were great though.

IOM articles state alcohol.

Tbh I think it's irrelevant.

They were deemed safe enough to be in a hotel and to go to work. Are they suddenly more infectious in Tesco? Are they less infectious in a hotel lobby,in a van, at the railway?

Downwithcovid · 04/10/2020 20:09

Well, rumour had it that one of them has subsequently tested positive so let’s see how things pan out over the next few days.

Useless fecker. If it’s true and we have another outbreak and subsequent lockdown because he couldn’t be arsed following the rules and fancied some cheap beer from Tesco, it will be squarely his fault.

As an island we got to where we are and have all been socialising, working and living lives completely normally because the rules were implemented and followed. We have mass gatherings of thousands of people, pubs are all open, schools are completely normal etc. These no heads have jeopardised all that.
