I like them but only wear one charm at a time on them, hate them with a million charms weighing me down

AlternativePerspective · 27/09/2020 14:59

A close friend was saying that her DD really liked them so thought I’d go and have a look for a Christmas present. I’d never been in the shop before or even paid them much attention and I was quite honestly Shock at the price of some of them. You could buy real jewellery for those prices....

The phrase more money than sense springs to mind.

KoalaKoalaPanda · 27/09/2020 15:01

I can't say I've given it much thought but I do have a charm bracelet from when I was 6 years old and I still add to it now. I love a good charm Grin

Sceptre86 · 27/09/2020 15:13

I have just got given one for my birthday by dh. It has charms with his and my kids birth stones on it I have to admit I have never really liked the bracelets as I always thought they were overpriced but I was touched that he put a lot of thought into mine. I love it.

crystaltips98 · 27/09/2020 15:28

Over priced tat

SBTLove · 27/09/2020 15:54

@Snipples
I’m just walking my staffies then I’ll be round 🤣🤣

For all the folk continuing to say tat etc even though plenty have said they have them
and love them, you are rather snotty and nasty.

BigBreastedMumma · 27/09/2020 16:01

@TheClaws

Well ... I like them, so there Smile
This!! Grin
WiddlinDiddlin · 27/09/2020 16:12

I have a Troll beads bracelet I like, I don't wear it all the time and it only has a handful of charms, not all of which (in fact I think only two are!) are trollbeads...

I also make similar stuff and sell it (for considerably less!!!) and there seems to be plenty of people out there who like that style of thing but not bothered about paying ridiculous money for a brand name.

Rubyupbeat · 27/09/2020 16:27

They reached chav status years ago, the emperors new clothes of mass produced cheap jewellery, a bit like the moveable clown pendants from the 80's.
High per centage of owners fall into the 'all fur and no knickers' group.

Southernsoftie76 · 27/09/2020 16:32

You lot are a horrible bunch of snobs 😂 I wear mine with pride, my daughter brought me one years ago for Christmas, she was a teen and worked hard for the money to buy it, she buys me a charm now and again when she sees one that she thinks is suitable, it is one of my favourite possessions because I know how much horse shit she shovelled as a 15 year old to buy it.

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/09/2020 16:37

You’re proud your dagger had to shovel twice as much shit than had she gone for a cheaper none branded but still silver bracelet?

I would have returned the gift and given her her money back and gave her a lesson in wise spending.

Tunnocks34 · 27/09/2020 16:38

We’ll surely it’s just different tastes?

I don’t like jewellery in general. I don’t wear anything but my wedding ring - not even my engagement ring.

But so what. Different strokes and that

LeSquigh · 27/09/2020 16:39

I had one when they were first fashionable, about 14-15 years ago. I spent an absolute FORTUNE at the time (£500+) filling it up and the thing was so heavy that it was hard to wear. I now think they are a bit dated but if you like them wear them. I sold my charms individually and made quite a bit of profit as the price of silver seemed to go up in that time.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 27/09/2020 16:39

I wasn't aware liking them was somehow compulsory, or that not liking them was newsworthy, but I'll try to work the fact that you don't like them into conversation sometime.

I love them and have more than one.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 27/09/2020 16:41

I have got one but it was a gift from DD (ibvs bought and paid for by DH) - really haven't got the heart to tell them l am not a fan - every time I wear it, it pinches the hairs on my arms. But l wear it every so often as the charms are quite cute

FrankskinnerscRoc · 27/09/2020 17:03

I wanted a charm bracelet since I was about 10 (not Pandora), but by the time I got one I no longer wanted one. However, I got addicted to collecting charms & bracelets when I saw the online sales, so now I've got more Pandora, Chamilia, & Clogau than I'd care to admit. The only ones I sometimes wear are the bangles & the leather, as the others are far too heavy for my weak little wrists. Every so often I take them out & rearrange the charms as I find it very therapeutic, I look at them, & take photos, I can't help it.

That's very mean
Sheknowsaboutme · 27/09/2020 17:07

I loathe them. Too chunky and after a while they turn black. Rings are equally awful.

My Joma bracelets are a few years old and look great!

tywysoges · 27/09/2020 17:09

I’ve loved charm bracelets since I was little and got my first one, so I was thrilled when my mum bought me a “pandora” - not really a Pandora one, it was from a jewellers from my home country. I have a mix of charms from that jeweller, Pandora, Chamilia, Clogau... I really don’t care where they come from. Also, my DSIL used to give me earrings I couldn’t wear before I got my bracelet (allergies) and now she gives me beads which is fine by me. But then again, I like chunky wrist wear, all my watches are on the big side (often men’s), so it suits my tastes. I didn’t realise it makes me chavvy Grin

Holothane · 27/09/2020 17:10

I love mine the only bracelet I can get on and off by myself I have the rose gold stuff and love them.

serendippity · 27/09/2020 17:55

My DH was always pretty adamant we would never get a dog. A couple of years ago he asked me what I wanted for my birthday and i said a Pandora bracelet or a puppy, he immediately looked into Pandora bracelets and discovered what they cost (with charms) versus what they are probably actually worth. I am now sitting here next to my almost 2 year old dog 😁 I would actually still love a Pandora bracelet, because I love the idea of the charms meaning something from people who love you, but since dh clearly thinks they are a mahoosive rip off, and my children are to young to buy me one, I will have to wait...or ask my dog to invest 😉

FudgeBrownie2019 · 27/09/2020 18:01

I don't wear any jewellery aside from my wedding band because it's just not my taste, but other people's choices don't bother me one bit.

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/09/2020 18:02

That's very mean

Why? If she brought me a cheap brew let I’d treasure it. But to spend hours working at what £5/6 pound an hour for an over priced trinket?

My kids understand the value of money. I’d be horrified if they thought this was good idea. I’d much rather they saved it for themselves than waste it on me.

JellyBert · 27/09/2020 18:05

I have a Thomas Sabo charm bracelet which I never wear (I don’t wear jewellery).
Going to get it out tomorrow Grin

I know somebody who has a gold pandora charm bracelet and it cost an absolute fortune!!
