actually threads where things I own are mocked as chavvy do upset me sometimes.
Easy for me to say I know, as I give zero fucks about conformity - especially when it comes to that nebulous, fuzzy concept of 'class' with which Brits are unaccountably obsessed. But please try not to let this nonsense upset you. I like what I like, and I couldn't care less how random strangers care to categorise and police what they see as 'good taste'.
Quite funny really: the class-snobs see Pandora bracelets, twiggy decor and hot tubs as naff because they attract people who conform to certain 'aspirational' trends. But the snobs are also rejecting those trends because they don't conform with certain notions of 'classy' tastes (ugh, I hate that word 'classy'; it's almost as bad as the word 'chav').
It's one of the things I find so amusing about Mumsnet. A guilty pleasure of mine has always been the home decor threads. They're a laugh a minute, and I always recognise some from my own home as well as others I personally don't happen to like (but not because of what these say about the home owners' background). The Mrs Hinch style of home predictably attracts the most acerbic comments.
We're getting a hot tub. I like them they relax me: I like to lie in one as the night comes on and watch the swallows go home and the bats and the stars come out. Mumsnet can call them 'chavvy sex ponds' to their heart's content: I'm still getting one. And if a bunch of fonts online don't like it that doesn't happen to matter, because no one's inviting them round to use it!
