Ms Krug, a Jewish woman form Kansa purported to be a Black woman and was a Professor of AfricanAmerica Hostory at George Washington University . Teaching classes and supervision grad and undergrad students in African American History

She was also an activist who posted and participated in rallies and events as Jessica La Bombalera. Demonstrating against the gentrification of East Harlem, proclaiming it to be her neighbourhood

Essentially she has gaslight, lied and assumed an identity that is not hers. In doing so,other candidates were denied opportunities, remuneration. She has assumed an identity and heritage that was not hers to assume

Exposed by a student who had the courage to confide in other teaching staff

Yeah, it's astonishingly offensive (speaking as a white Jewish woman). I can't begin to understand why anyone would do this.

Tempusfudgeit · 04/09/2020 08:38

Racial self identification seems to be the next step from gender self ID. Then age, maybe.

contrmary · 04/09/2020 08:40

Self identification for age has been tested I think, the court threw it out. Shame because I feel (and look) a lot older than I really am.

But I think self identification of race is no different to gender. If you can feel that you were born to the "wrong" gender, why not race?

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 08:41

Galling, esp to think she lived a confected invented life. Invented a backstory and claimed a heritage that was not hers to claim. Essentially denied access of opportunity to black women

Oh the age thing is still being tested. Some oddball in the paper was whining that he's 'discriminated against for identifying as as 'adult baby'.

There is absolutely no difference in race and sex identification. Same bases, yet one is treated with rightful contempt and the other applauded.

Identity politics is the new belief system, and it's a bloody powerful and toxic.

What MouthBreathingRage said in spades.....

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 08:51

in June 2020 she participated in a NYC rally, protesting about gentrification east Harlem

That really is despicable.

It would be great if people could actually empathise with the harm this has caused without turning the thread into a debate on transgenderism, but I expect that’s asking too much of mumsnet.

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 08:56

Yes it caused harm, not least the individuals denied an opportunity in academia, funding, publishing because she got those opportunities. She has gaslight her colleagues and others, recounting a past a heritage that was not hers to gain advantage

I think it's interesting to look at the similarities or difference to trans issues. What makes this so unacceptable if it's ok to accept people self id-ing as a different gender. There may be very good reasons that would be helpful to highlight / discuss.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 04/09/2020 09:01

You’re right neolara

Whatisthisfuckery · 04/09/2020 09:01

If it’s fine for a man to say he’s a woman then it’s fine for a white woman to say she’s black. We can’t have it both ways. Either claiming to be a member of an oppressed group to which you do not belong is acceptable or it isn’t.

MouthBreathingRage · 04/09/2020 09:02

But there's no difference between the two arguments. The subject matter just highlights the hypocrisy of the situation. The instant reaction to finding out someone has been 'identifying' as black, rather than being born so, is quite rightly disgust. Yet when women say the same about their sex being appropriated, they're called bigoted. Can you not see why the comparison is relevant in this discussion?

I don’t see why you mention her being Jewish. That isn’t relevant and it’s odd that you make that central.

PhilSwagielka · 04/09/2020 09:08

I guess because we are a minority group ourselves. You’d think she might have enough empathy to not go round pretending to be black.

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 09:09

I mention it because it is her heritage, her upbringing
She reports she is a Jewish white woman who falsely represented herself as a black woman

minnieok · 04/09/2020 09:09

Wasn't there another case like this? Except that lady had Afro looking hair and darker skin so really looked mixed race?

Tappering · 04/09/2020 09:10

Agree. You can be black and Jewish - look at Beta Israel.

Saying that this woman is Jewish should not be a default assumption for her being white.

A member of the woke stasi salivating over an opportunity to see somebody cancelled more like it. Well, I'd bet, knowing nothing about the situation.

So thinking it’s inappropriate for a white woman to pretend to be black makes you woke Stasi. FFS.

And I see we can’t discuss this without people trying to hijack the thread and make it all about trans people.

hibbledibble · 04/09/2020 09:11

I don't see what this has to do with her being Jewish.

Whatisthisfuckery · 04/09/2020 09:12

If a student confided in a member of teaching staff that another staff member was in fact a man, rather than a woman, they’d get acccused of transphobia, re-educated, and more than likely sanctioned.

For all those who will say ‘let’s not turn this into a thread about trans,’ can you not see the wopping great double standard and hypocrisy here?

Personally I think neither kind of impersonation is acceptable, but if you disagree I’d be interested to know why.

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 09:13

@YourVagesty your post is a tick list of tired stereotypes. Light on content and heavy on tired cliche
woke
stasi

Are you suggesting the student should have kept SSShhh to protect and maintain a set of falsehood invented by Krug ?

OP posts:
SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 09:16

Krug heritage and ethnicity is white and Jewish, raised in Kansas
In her explanation she reported To an escalating degree over my adult life, I eschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim.."

OP posts:
Tappering · 04/09/2020 09:18

Yes but you don't have to be white to be Jewish. You can be Jewish and any colour.

I know that's how she's described herself but seeing as this is the woman that's pretended to be black, she's hardly the go-to person on avoiding offensive stereotypes, is she?
