Jesica Krug - white Jewish Woman pretended to be black.

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 08:30

Ms Krug, a Jewish woman form Kansa purported to be a Black woman and was a Professor of AfricanAmerica Hostory at George Washington University . Teaching classes and supervision grad and undergrad students in African American History

She was also an activist who posted and participated in rallies and events as Jessica La Bombalera. Demonstrating against the gentrification of East Harlem, proclaiming it to be her neighbourhood

Essentially she has gaslight, lied and assumed an identity that is not hers. In doing so,other candidates were denied opportunities, remuneration. She has assumed an identity and heritage that was not hers to assume

Exposed by a student who had the courage to confide in other teaching staff

Unlike Dolzeil who rushed to defend her embraced cultural identity, Krug has called her own behaviour despicable. Explained she had trauma in her youth.

tbh, I'm alarmed at Krug's quick statements admitting guilt & blame & shame. It's like she's inviting the world to shit hugely on her from a great height. Hope she can find a productive peaceful future.

Porcupineinwaiting · 04/09/2020 10:17

@Pertella if your skin tone are hair are naturally dark enough to make you look black then surely you are black (biologically if not culturally)?

stairway · 04/09/2020 10:20

Dolzeil is stilling pretending to be a black woman though isn’t she. Presumably there is nothing actually wrong with dying and curling the hair and wearing fake tan. The issue is pretending to be black in order to take away senior positions that are meant for people of colour. Since Dolzeil always darkens her skin I wouldn’t say it was ‘black face’.

MaxNormal · 04/09/2020 10:21

Anyone who critisises this woman better not be saying TWAW.

queenofknives · 04/09/2020 10:21

It is despicable.

But when MEN (like Shaun King) or TW (Gwen Benaway) do it, it just gets ignored or given a pass.

Why the double standard? Either it's wrong to pretend to be something you're not for personal gain, or it isn't. I think it is. And I agree with pp who have pointed out the parallels with trans identity politics.

StealthPolarBear · 04/09/2020 10:26

I thought race was actually quite difficult to define and a lot more fluid than sex. Could be wrong.
Plus in this country (not sure about the US) isn't ethnicity for you to decide which you identify with? How are you 'proved' right or wrong either way?

Chloemol · 04/09/2020 10:26

Surely in this age of self identification it’s either allowed across the board, or not

So either you are black, brown, white, make, female etc etc because of your genetics and sex at birth

Or you can identify as what ever you want, be called by what pronouns you want, be what colour or creed you want because you can self identify as anything

You can’t have a half way house of yes you can be born white make, but can only self identify as white female and not black female

Cam77 · 04/09/2020 10:27

@AnotherEmma
Women in the West are not an oppressed group. The fact that women in other parts of the world are oppressed doesnt automatically entail that all women are. Christians are oppressed in some countries, but it makes no sense to say all Christians are victims of oppression.

MeridaTheBold · 04/09/2020 10:33

Transpeople take roles, sponsorship, scholarships, titles, awards from women all the time and no-one says a word.
When it's a woman's place being stolen, suddenly it doesn't matter about lived experience. It doesn't matter about birth. It doesn't matter about social and historic context. It doesn't matter about systemic oppression.
And all the usual hypocrites will be falling over themselves to condemn Krug whilst posting TWAW Hmm

Pertella · 04/09/2020 10:34
@Pertella if your skin tone are hair are naturally dark enough to make you look black then surely you are black (biologically if not culturally)?
If your parents are both 'white' though 🤷‍♀️

The whole concept of race is complex and in many ways illogical!

KrabbyPatties · 04/09/2020 10:34

I think it’s the fact that she made a career or
Mileage out of it and was overtly manipulative that’s the problem

However... if she feels she was born in the wrong race ...and truly
identifies as black who are we to complain?

If we’re gonna be all woke about things let’s be consistent !!

stairway · 04/09/2020 10:34

Cam77 women in this country earn less then men, are much less likely to get into senior leadership positions and are more likely to be murdered by their partner etc. No one has a problem with a man dressing or identifying as a woman. It’s when they want to enter women’s places or take funding away from actual woman or compete in women’s sport. That’s the problem . Which is similar to the situation with Krug. She can dress as she likes but shouldn’t take a position based on her fake identity.

waxofffff · 04/09/2020 10:35

Women in the West are not an oppressed group.

Um ok....

waxofffff · 04/09/2020 10:40

This is such a complex issue.

Clearly people believed this women & I assumed treated her as she presented. The student who questioned her identity would have been hauled through the coals if Jessica had even a tiny bit of mixed heritage in her family tree.

Lying about your race is obviously wrong but I thought questioning it was too. And you should accept people as they present themselves without probing?

I do see the trans argument because in some cases one is asked not to see what they actually do see whereas RD looked & I assumed would have been treated as a black woman.

Casschops · 04/09/2020 10:44

There wad a white American woman doing the same. She attempted to brazen it out by saying she self identified as black. WTF.

StealthPolarBear · 04/09/2020 10:45

Casschops, what did they say to that? Was there any acknowledgement that it's exactly the same as sex self id?

Stripesgalore · 04/09/2020 10:45

Perhaps if there was more social justice emphasis on survivors of childhood trauma these women wouldn’t have to pretend to be black to get social validation for their feelings of distress.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 04/09/2020 10:47

if your skin tone are hair are naturally dark enough to make you look black then surely you are black (biologically if not culturally)?

^^
This is where the problems start, surely?

Not to defend this woman, who I agree did act in an immoral way, but what does it mean to be black? Most people acknowledge the right of a person who looks white but had a black grandparent (say) to call themselves black. But what if someone, by a quirk of genetics, looks black or mixed race but isn’t, at least going by their parents and grandparents. The second one probably encounters more racism than the first.

I agree it is relevant to the issue of being transgender as it calls into question the same issue - what is meant by “a woman”? What is meant by “black”?

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 04/09/2020 10:48

Women in the West are not an oppressed group

Why the hell would you think this?

MouthBreathingRage · 04/09/2020 10:49

Women in the West are not an oppressed group.

Are you for real? Which 'women in the west' are you thinking of? The ones denied abortions? Contraception? The ones not listened to when they feel their female health is not right, only to be told it's 'normal women troubles'? The ones who die because they're ignored? The ones who are sacked or don't even get jobs because they're of child baring age and then 'past it' for raising said children? The ones who don't get career progression or equal pay to men? The ones who can't walk home alone for fear of being raped or murdered, and if they are then get told it's their fault? The ones seriously abused or murdered every week by their partners at an alarming rate, tgat is systematically ignored for the most part? The famous women who are stalked and followed from being young girls, demanding their whole existence is to look pretty for the camera and nothing more? Social platforms turning women into something to be laughed at and encouraging abuse though 'jokes', if you dare to be a woman who complains or makes a fuss about anything prepared to have yourself plastered everywhere as a 'Karen'. What a fucking privilege it is to be a woman in the west.

waxofffff · 04/09/2020 10:50

More & more children in the future will have mixed heritage. Are "we" going to categorise them just based on how they look?

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 10:54

Women in the West are not an oppressed group
We are routinely oppressed financially, socially, culturally and if we complain we are being all Gobby

Look at the pay differential between men & women

All the studies that women do the bulk domestic tasks

OP posts:
Irelate · 04/09/2020 10:56

Hm, why would she do this given all the 'white privilege' she was entitled to?

xtinak · 04/09/2020 10:57

I feel like her confessional almost makes it worse. First it was cool to be black so she did that, and now it's cool to do this expression of original-sin-white-privilege-but now-I-get-it so she's doing that.. might just be a new attempted career transition?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 04/09/2020 10:57

How is this case so different from this one
