SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 08:30

Ms Krug, a Jewish woman form Kansa purported to be a Black woman and was a Professor of AfricanAmerica Hostory at George Washington University . Teaching classes and supervision grad and undergrad students in African American History

She was also an activist who posted and participated in rallies and events as Jessica La Bombalera. Demonstrating against the gentrification of East Harlem, proclaiming it to be her neighbourhood

Essentially she has gaslight, lied and assumed an identity that is not hers. In doing so,other candidates were denied opportunities, remuneration. She has assumed an identity and heritage that was not hers to assume

Exposed by a student who had the courage to confide in other teaching staff

I think there is a lot of unecessary harshness and ignorance against trans people. It isn't always as simple as choosing to be a different gender. Hormones can play a big part in these feelings. I would imagine a lot of people would opt for an easier life if they felt they could, rather than an uphill struggle against a generally judgemental society.

Stripesgalore · 04/09/2020 11:04

These women may have felt they were black based on hormones. It doesn’t make it okay.

I thought this thread was about a white woman appropriating black culture for financial and professional gain. Turns out it's another Transtranstranstranstranstrans thread.Hmm

I'll leave y'all to it.

@Irelate

Hm, why would she do this given all the 'white privilege' she was entitled to?
It is because of her white privilege she felt she was able to do this,
unmarkedbythat · 04/09/2020 11:07

What Dione said.

SoulofanAggron · 04/09/2020 11:09

Jews are not white BTW but if she's done a Rachel Dolezal that's awful. Angry

PapaPoule · 04/09/2020 11:11

It's absolutely crazy that she would pretend to be black, invent her backstory and all the activism as "a member of the black community".

However, I am intrigued by the idea that she has prevented access for others in academia. Should professors of African-American History exclusively be black ? Assuming she has actually done the necessary studies, what is wrong with a white woman teaching African-American History ? If it is wrong, do the same standards apply to professorships in (white) History ? If the argument then is that History is for everyone, would it be acceptable for an explicit White American History class to be taught ?

On the trans issue, it is clearly the same as self-ID for gender, which is just as mad. It is either a mental-health issue, or someone cynically gaming a system to get what they want, consequences be damned, with truth as the first casualty.

SentientAndCognisant · 04/09/2020 11:11

White privilege gave Ms Kruger the self belief, that as clever white woman anything she wanted was attainable. She felt able to play the game, and hell if she bent a few truths...well that’s tough

What?
MouthBreathingRage · 04/09/2020 11:14

It isn't always as simple as choosing to be a different gender.

I couldn't give a toss what 'gender' one chooses to live by. If men want to wear dresses and make up, be their idea of 'feminine', get fake books put in, then go right ahead. It's using the term 'woman' is where it becomes an issue. Its when women lose positions in society, have their biological terms taken away so not to offend trans people, have male bodied people competing in our sports and so forth is where the issues arise.

Being black, being a woman, gay or even being disabled and whatever else you are in life, these are not boxes you can switch in and out of. They all come with their own story, history, culture of oppression, and to appropriate that over a person demanding 'what I feel' is more important, its immensely offensive and damaging.

geekone · 04/09/2020 11:16

@theconstantinoplegardener

Minnieok yes, Rachel Dolezal. A very similar situation.
Except she darkened her skin and permed her hair, none of it was natural she had straight almost blond hair as a teen and was quite pale.
GreySkyClouds · 04/09/2020 11:17

@Whatisthisfuckery

If it’s fine for a man to say he’s a woman then it’s fine for a white woman to say she’s black. We can’t have it both ways. Either claiming to be a member of an oppressed group to which you do not belong is acceptable or it isn’t.

I'm just waiting for the first adult baby to demand childcare from me.

Why would you comment without reading what she said?

She said she did it because she didn’t feel accepted by the white community.

Oh for goodness sake, the world's gone loopy. What a load of piffle.

This, in absolute spades.

Self-ID slippery slope. No difference. Imagination Vs Reality.

An interesting discussion could be had about this and white women pretending to be black while telling actual black women they're not black enough, but no, it has to be about TEH TRANZ.
Advicewouldbeappreciated · 04/09/2020 11:25

If people can identify as their non biological sex why can they not identify as their non biological ethnicity?
Surely we are moving towards a place where we can be what we want to be if we say that's what we are?

ChickenyChick · 04/09/2020 11:25

Poor woman, I just feel worried about her and scared what she might do next.

It's like she's throwing herself into the fire of rage against white people

This won't end well :(

Advicewouldbeappreciated · 04/09/2020 11:25

I wonder if she was a man if she'd have received such condemnation

StealthPolarBear · 04/09/2020 11:27

Grey sky which bit do you disagree with

Sarahandco · 04/09/2020 11:28

If she got funding that was intended only for someone of the minority group she was claiming to be then that is fraud and of course very wrong.

Presumably, you do not need to be African American to teach African American History. Anyone can study that subject and become a professor by gaining the qualification through study of the subject.
But lying about your heritage means you cannot be a trusted or professional teacher.

I don't see the problem of people emulating a culture or race if it through admiration and personally think people should be free to dress and present themselves as they wish as long as it does not cause harm.

But misleading people in this way and benefiting materially is very disturbing! Why?

Fatarseflanagan09 · 04/09/2020 11:29

She can self identify all she wants but it doesn't alter the fact that she's a fucking liar.
