AIBU to ask how often you change bedsheets?

I have a friend who does it every other day! This seems wayyyyy too much for me, once a week is the maximum as far as I'm concerned (unless it's children's sheets and there's been accidents obviously) and more frequently it ends up being once a fortnight Blush

So people of mumsnet, how long do you leave it?

Weekly for us or sometimes every 5-6 days depending on the washing load.

Abouttimemum · 01/09/2020 10:13

Erm, I ‘aim’ for weekly but sometimes may be less than that! DS cot sheets usually twice a week, only because he often snots on them and spills water.

Gingerfish91 · 01/09/2020 10:14

When they need it. I have 6 beds to change, no chance of doing it weekly or even fortnightly. I have a disabled son and when he’s hime the 2 washing machines are already going all day.

ArtichokeAardvark · 01/09/2020 10:14

Fortnightly, although the children's often get done more frequently. I'd never be able to get them washed and dried in time for every other day, your friend must be a laundry fiend!

TitsOutForHarambe · 01/09/2020 10:15

I aim for weekly but usually it's a bit less than that

roarfeckingroarr · 01/09/2020 10:15

Fortnightly

caringcarer · 01/09/2020 10:15

Weekly in summer and maybe every 9 or 10 days in winter. Child's sheets changed every week all year round.

MinesAPintOfTea · 01/09/2020 10:16

@ArabellaScott

New bedsheets for birthdays and Christmas. Whether they need it or not.
No December birthdays in your house then? Grin
GameSetMatch · 01/09/2020 10:16

Weekly, I can’t see the bottom of my washing basket as it is, no way I could it more frequently.

alreadytaken · 01/09/2020 10:16

YABVVU to ask a question that comes up regularly. Change mine when I want to, depends a lot on the weather - and it's no-one else's business how often that is.

I don’t do it very often. Raised by my gran wbo would do all bedding (sheets / covers / entire duvets / mattresses) once every month or two (sooner if stained) and I try to do the same. I do have heavy periods and so when I get a leak I do wash sheets straight away but it’s the other stuff like beating duvets prior to washing them, turning mattresses etc that take the real effort.
Marriedtoapenguin · 01/09/2020 10:19

The kids weekly. Ours usually weekly dependant on weather or space on the heated airer. Maximum a fortnight.

022828MAN · 01/09/2020 10:20

Ha, probably every 3 to 4 weeks if I'm being honest. But it's just me in a super king and I don't really sweat at night at all!

CareBear50 · 01/09/2020 10:21

Every seven to 14 days. I don't have a tumble drier so tend to time it w the weather lol

AlrightTreacle · 01/09/2020 10:21

Weekly in the summer and fortnightly in the winter. I chuck the pillowcases in if there's room in the washing machine when washing other stuff, so they get done a couple of times a week.

gonewiththerain · 01/09/2020 10:26

I aim for weekly, fortnightly is what usually happens as it’s just too much washing in the winter. In the summer I usually manage weekly. Obviously more frequently if there’s an accident

SueEllenofDallas · 01/09/2020 10:27

Every leap year.

GreyishDays · 01/09/2020 10:29

@BubblyBarbara

Whenever I change the whole bed so monthly if I’m being good
That’s the question. When do you change your duvet cover, pillowcases, sheet? Smile
lioncitygirl · 01/09/2020 10:30

Fortnightly. Weekly for kids.

HoppingPavlova · 01/09/2020 10:30

When there are too many crumbs, weird stains or they smell. So several weeks at times. Same for the kids, I’ll ask them to chuck them in the wash and air doona’s/blankets once a smell starts emanating out of their rooms. We all change our pillowcase if we have washed hair that day though.

Will add no one has ever had a health problem, no skin issues and I’ve worked in acute services for way too many years and never once had someone ill due to unwashed bedsheets. The occasional case of absolute neglect with an elderly or disabled person who had been lying in their waste for long periods amongst other things but never anyone with just routinely dirty bedsheets.

ItWasntMyFault · 01/09/2020 10:35

Fortnightly. We all shower every day so don't see the need for more often than that.

TheHappyHerbivore · 01/09/2020 10:36

We do ours weekly. I would prefer twice weekly tbh because fresh sheets are my favourite thing, but I can’t really be bothered.

Emeraldshamrock · 01/09/2020 10:37

I'd like to think weekly I'd say it is nearer to 10 days.

angieloumc · 01/09/2020 10:37

Weekly in winter, twice weekly in summer, top pillow cases every other day regardless.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 01/09/2020 10:38

YABU to ask this when there have been loads of threads on the subject already!

YANBU to wash sheets once a week as a maximum. I think fortnightly is fine too!
