I have a friend who does it every other day! This seems wayyyyy too much for me, once a week is the maximum as far as I'm concerned (unless it's children's sheets and there's been accidents obviously) and more frequently it ends up being once a fortnight Blush

So people of mumsnet, how long do you leave it?

When I worked Monday-Friday they were changed every Sunday.

Now DH and I both work shifts and it's changed after either of us finish nightshift. Sometimes that's after 3/4 sleep other times it's after 6 depending on our shift rotations.

Every day for sheets And pillow slips the now I’m menopausal and they get very sweaty

Duvet cover every 3 days as we flipped it I’d want to was more but the covers would fade. So I have loads of spare

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 01/09/2020 11:21

Once a week on a Saturday. It's what we had to do at boarding school and the habit stuck. When we met my husband would leave his on till they were crusty, I quickly cured him of that habit.
Every other day is mental, she must be an absolute slave to her washing machine.

Twice a week when my boyfriend visits. He has a mild dog allergy, I have a dog who goes on the bed (sleeps under it but visits for a cuddle in the morning). I change bedding before boyfriend comes over so he doesn’t get itchy eyes!

Puzzlelover · 01/09/2020 11:22

Every Monday. We always go to bed a little bit earlier on Monday because clean sheets feel so lovely!
Was less often when we had children at home, but rarely more than a fortnightly.

I have a friend who does it every other day!

gosh, does she not work and is bored?

I do it fortnight, weekly in the summer.

Pellewsmate · 01/09/2020 11:23

Sheets once a week. Duvet cover and pillowcases once a fortnight, the duvet gets turned everyday and the pillows are rotated and turned so each side of the pillow gets slept on 3-4 times before washing. Bed is left unmade (neatly) during the day to allow everything to breathe.

awesomeaircraft · 01/09/2020 11:24

Weekly.

fuandylp · 01/09/2020 11:26

Most people shower morning and night, so are hardly ''Filthy'' when they get into bed.

What?? Most people only shower morning and night? That's simply revolting. People should be showering three times a day. Anything less is just so unhygienic. They must really smell.

Puzzlelover · 01/09/2020 11:27

Haha @MJMG2015 also in the SE and I agree it's a lively day. I've done extra washing too (dogs beds etc)

Katiepants27 · 01/09/2020 11:27

weekly. every Sunday. I wouldn't want to leave it any longer after 56 hours of 'wear' (7 nights x 8 hours).

Hayyancairo2 · 01/09/2020 11:28

Every Saturday morning. Can't bear floppy unwashed sheets.

I knew a rather nerdy bloke years ago , we went to his house, and on way to loo his bedroom door was ajar- and his duvet was pulled back to reveal a Turin shroud like murky brownish/grey imprint where his body had been- I think it must have been a yearly bedding change.

A friend helps an elderly academic couple with their shopping... She was shocked that the woman of the couple sleeps in a double bed, one half of which is piled with boxes of heavy, dusty books.

I said ''How on earth does she change the bedding?''...and friend gave me a long look.

''They Don't''.
If people are compos mentis it is up to them how they live, but these examples are rather 'ugh'.

Bettyn · 01/09/2020 11:31

Fortnightly

Thefaceofboe · 01/09/2020 11:35

Every Saturday / Sunday.

snowgirl1 · 01/09/2020 11:35

Weekly. Less frequently for DD (8).

oakleaffy · 01/09/2020 11:35

Re blowy day...Nothing is nicer than blued-white sheets cracking like sails on the line- in wind and sun..
They smell of fresh air afterwards, that lovely cool crisp feeling..

Airing duvets outdoors on the line in sun and wind is nice to do as well.

Thefaceofboe · 01/09/2020 11:36

Shock I couldn’t be bothered thinking into things this much

Thefaceofboe · 01/09/2020 11:37

The people who change bedding every day - do you work??

afaloren · 01/09/2020 11:37

Once a week unless it’s very hot/pets get muddy feet on them etc, in which case I’ll do them ad hoc. If I were a millionaire I might pay someone to do it every day only because I love fresh sheets Grin

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 01/09/2020 11:38

That sounds rather like my husband! The first few times I stayed at his he'd change them before I arrived but he only owned 2 sets and hated doing laundry so quickly fell out of that habit. He also didn't understand the concept of airing the room and bedding. I open the windows daily even in mid winter and our doona and pillows go on the airer or outside regularly and he's admitted it's much nicer that way!

saddoiam · 01/09/2020 11:39

Depends really.. what actions been happening in it 🤣🤣normally twice a week though

NameChange84 · 01/09/2020 11:39

Every Sunday. Wouldn’t leave it longer than weekly.

QueenArseClangers · 01/09/2020 11:40

@GrumpyHoonMain your Gran’s method of bed changing seems like a lot of hard work!
If you change your sheets weekly then you don’t need to fanny about with ‘beating the duvet’ or cleaning the mattress Confused

PerveenMistry · 01/09/2020 11:55

At least weekly; every Sat or Sunday. More often now that I'm working from home due to COVID.

It wastes no extra water as we are fortunate have a huge washer that can handle multiple sets. I collect vintage cotton percale sheets and pillow cases that dry wonderfully crisp and smooth.
