AIBU to ask how often you change bedsheets?

I have a friend who does it every other day! This seems wayyyyy too much for me, once a week is the maximum as far as I'm concerned (unless it's children's sheets and there's been accidents obviously) and more frequently it ends up being once a fortnight Blush

So people of mumsnet, how long do you leave it?

It depends.
Pillow cases tend to be weekly.
Sheets fortnightly in the Summer and less during Winter (full pjs).

Emeraldshamrock · 01/09/2020 10:38

That’s the question. When do you change your duvet cover, pillowcases, sheet?
All at the same time.

Quackersandcheese3 · 01/09/2020 10:39

I wash ours every 2 weeks. Alternate one week mine the other week the kids.

Divebar · 01/09/2020 10:40

Shall we do towels next. ( again)

RedRoses2020 · 01/09/2020 10:45

Weekly and if I don’t have a full whites wash I will chuck the pillowcases in every 2-3 days.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 01/09/2020 10:47

Weekly

The childrens are washed fortnightly or once the bed has been spelt in about 7-14 times depending on which child

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 01/09/2020 10:48

Should point out my children are 21, 18 and 17

JinglingHellsBells · 01/09/2020 10:48

Have households got dirtier? My gran would have wash day on Monday,- all done, ironing on Tuesday, shopping/ baking Wednesday etc .
And that was washing with a tub and a mangle.

I'm actually shocked that so many people here go 2 weeks without changing their bedding.

All my bedding is white 100% cotton and after a week the pillow slips are looking a bit grimy, no matter how carefully I remove my make up or wash my hair, and sheets do have that 'lived in look' where your body goes.

After 2 weeks they'd be awful.

WhoAmIWhoAreYou · 01/09/2020 10:49

Every Monday here!

NoParticularPattern · 01/09/2020 10:49

Every Friday. Unless it’s not been slept in at all then it gets left

Laaalaaaa · 01/09/2020 10:52

Every 3 months

Once a week. More often if it's been really hot at night.

Households have become busier. I’m betting your gran didn’t have a professional job? It would be challenging for the great majority of households where 2 people work to run to your nan’s schedule. And no, I don’t think we have necessarily made life harder for ourselves. I don’t get any self-satisfaction from washing, ironing, baking and shopping so would rather do something that does give me that so I’m happy with the trade-off that our sheets are undoubtedly dirtier than your gran’s.

Walkaround · 01/09/2020 11:03

@JinglingHellsBells - your definition of awful is personal to you. Others may think your obsession with washing things that are perfectly safe is just profligate. 😝

AlrightTreacle · 01/09/2020 11:06

@JinglingHellsBells

Back in your grans day I bet people didn't use deodorant, shower once or twice a day, and they probably washed their hair once a week at most.

fuandylp · 01/09/2020 11:09

Every day - as soon as you've slept in the bed once. Anything less is slovenly.
Why would you want to sleep in your own filth?

Same with towels. All towels laundered immediately after use and fresh ones out.

GolightlyMrsGolightly · 01/09/2020 11:09

Once a week at least - but more often now we've got a dog and I'm menopausal.

Jelly4444 · 01/09/2020 11:10

Once a week. I line dry when its possible to get that gorgeous fresh smell. I do the kids bedding every second week. Their beds don't need to be washed that often.

Penners99 · 01/09/2020 11:11

Mine are changed every 5 nights

oakleaffy · 01/09/2020 11:12

Weekly.
Duvet covers maybe twice weekly but I do use a top sheet.

A single person doesn't make bedsheets as 'sweaty' as a couple!
I remember as a child and teen detesting how infrequently stepmum changed the sheets... They were flannelette and I yearned for crisp white cotton.

Bought fresh white ones for myself the minute I left home.

It is strange- DM STILL won't change sheets - I visited and found strange earring in the guest bed- from someone who stayed a few weeks prior!
DM blithely said ''Oh I had [two other] people too stay since her...So....the bed had been slept in by 4 different people, and the bedding wasn't changed...
I get that drying sheets/duvet covers if you haven't a dryer is a pain, but it is hygienic to change bedding after a guest leaves, even ion for one night?!

MJMG2015 · 01/09/2020 11:12

More than strictly necessary, but I LOVE fresh linen!

In winter a minimum of once a week.

In summer much more often. Over this hot summer (SE England) I changed the fitted sheet & pillow cases daily, but as the duvet day untouched for weeks, that just got changed before I put it back in the bed, even though it hadn't been used before it was folded up.

It's an unexpectedly lively day here today
so the towels are having an 'early wash' only used twice (usually 3-4 tines).

Debating whether to strip the beds & do them next 🤷🏻‍♀️ Or go out & enjoy the sun... I'm thinking that might win today!! (Beds were only done on Sunday).

This. A thousand times this.
oakleaffy · 01/09/2020 11:13

Oops- not twice weekly for duvet covers- every two weeks but I do use top sheet so duvet cover is protected by sheets.

oakleaffy · 01/09/2020 11:18

''Filth''? Blimey, that's crazy. Most people shower morning and night, so are hardly ''Filthy'' when they get into bed.

Maybe you like doing ''Exciting things''' in bed, like chocolate body painting?
