Article In today's Times about teaching resources for RSE from the proud trust.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/government-gives-pupils-sex-advice-on-the-roll-of-a-dice-80hmsplws

In summary "The government has funded a tool kit written by the Proud Trust, an LGBT charity, which includes dice featuring words such as “anus”, “vulva”, “penis” and “hands and fingers”. Children are encouraged to throw the dice twice and talk about the sexual acts that can happen using the two body parts".

AIBU to think this is deeply inappropriate and any school using Proud Trust resources needs investigating? WTF is the government doing funding pornographic material for children?

How is a penis pornographic?

Can someone let every boy know they’re PORN

IAmFleshIAmBone · 31/08/2020 08:18

YANBU sounds like something Ann summers would sell... Sex dice Sad

TomNook · 31/08/2020 08:19

I think it sounds a good way to make kids talk. Those lessons can be a bit tense so this sounds fun

Have you ever taught sex Ed OP? I’ve done 27 years of it.

TomNook · 31/08/2020 08:19

Sex happens. Not talking about it doesn’t make it go away

malificent7 · 31/08/2020 08:20

Hmmmmmmm......could be ok if managed correctly.

Doccomplaint · 31/08/2020 08:20

It’s for secondary school.

Over 13 from the bit of the article I could read.

I wouldn’t be upset about it, in and of itself. Depends how the lesson is structured. It’s just a discussion tool.

A penis isn't. But asking teenagers to suggest how a penis and another body part might be used together for sexual gratification definitely is.

Vile. I would refuse to do this activity with a class.

Srslydontgiveacrap · 31/08/2020 08:20

Seems fine, stop being a prude.

Adding some laughter to the situation is likely to stop the tense embarrassed atmosphere.

malificent7 · 31/08/2020 08:21

Actually..the sex acts thing made me wince...sounds like an adult game.

TomNook · 31/08/2020 08:21

“Another body part”

OMG LIKE THEIR HANDS

SpinningTheMoon · 31/08/2020 08:21

Think I've read about this before - is it the dice that doesn't have 'clitoris' on it? Shows the real focus doesn't it Hmm

BullshitVivienne · 31/08/2020 08:21

YABU for not proof reading.

2fallsagain · 31/08/2020 08:21

Tom did you actually read the article?

YANBU
The whole thing is deeply problematic, and needs looking into.

TomNook · 31/08/2020 08:21

I think the OP just wants to be cross.

Have you taught sex ed? Until you have or had older kids you’ve nooooo idea

LittleBearPad · 31/08/2020 08:22

YANBU.

Doccomplaint · 31/08/2020 08:22

I can’t read the article. It’s behind a paywall.

TomNook · 31/08/2020 08:23

@2fallsagain

Tom did you actually read the article?
Yes. I subscribe.

The only thing that’s weird is the funding

VashtaNerada · 31/08/2020 08:23

I think you need to trust teachers to know what they’re doing. If the dice game isn’t appropriate for the cohort they won’t do it. Teachers know their subject and they know children, let them use their professional judgement about how and when to use tools like this.

Well, I clicked the link and read what I could. It’s not dangerous from what I was able to read.

What’s the point of linking something behind a paywall?

TomNook · 31/08/2020 08:26

GROOMING?
using a dice to promote questioning is a hardly a novel method in education

This is appalling. I do not want to have conversations with children about how a penis and an anus could interact in a ‘fun’ way. As a pupil I would have been horrified, as a teacher o would feel as if I was pushing an abusive conversation on children.

This is not what sex education should be in our schools.
