To ask how often you shower?

I only shower 3-4 times a week, to be honest. Is that gross? I especially will skip a shower if my hair looks good.

I do, however, change undies every morning.
@misschoices get him something to scrub with. It's probably all the dead skin from decades ago that's stinking.

I got my DH some exfoliating gloves to scrub his body with, as he too was a bare hands and soap guy.

Washing with bare hands is not effective. Try washing dirty dishes with just soap and bare hands, it won't be 100% clean at all and probably still stinks of whatever food was served in them. That's why we use dish scrubbers.
Dead skin cells are not the same as stuck on food. They fall off all the time as dust. Bare hands and soap are fine. It’s all I use and my skin is good and I don’t smell.

@Penguin007

You know the smell as you walk into a cinema? Stuffy and stale. It's the smell of unwashed bodies. I smell people in shops, on public transport etc. who have that whiff about them all the time. I have a friend who showers in the evening rather than the morning, and she smells to me like a slightly weaker version of that.

All those people saying they don't smell - that's what you smell like to me. Not full-on sweaty, but stuffy, stale, sour.

But how do you KNOW it's the bodies,and not the clothes? Or are you presuming?

Plus...human beings smell. We're animals after all...

Penguin007 · 15/08/2020 08:13

My point is that people can smell stale even if not sweaty. They are nose-blind to themselves, and don't realise they smell less than fresh. So it's no good saying "I don't smell" because you just can't tell.

The social normal is daily showering, deodorant and clean clothes. People might actually be wrinkling their nose at your smell even if they wouldn't tell you to your face that you smell less than fragrant.

Lockheart · 15/08/2020 08:14

@00100001

I live these threads.

Because people KNOW when you haven't showered every day. they KNOW that because you STINK. And that can only be because you didn't shower in 32 hours. Nope. That's the only reason.

How they know how often everyone they meet showers is beyond me... Confused

Because they're all just so special dontchaknow. It's an MN superpower.

A really shit superpower, but hey...

I regularly commute on packed trains and live and work in central London, which is fairly busy generally. Encountering someone who actually smells bad is pretty uncommon. And I have a good sense of smell.

00100001 · 15/08/2020 08:16

@Lockheart

You can't be a true MNer...I can smell you from here Grin

No, that is your social norm. Plenty of people don't shower daily (as evidenced by this thread) and some don't even use deodorant, because they don't need to.

Don't make the mistake of thinking everyone has the same skin as you.

BigKnickers87 · 15/08/2020 08:17

Every day. Totally gross not to shower every day!!!!

listsandbudgets · 15/08/2020 08:19

Most days. I Skip occasionally.

I only wash my hair every 2 - 3 days though which seems to be enough. I have a couple of shower hats for when I don't need ro wash it.

AliTheMinx · 15/08/2020 08:20

I shower and wash my hair every morning. I feel yucky if I haven't showered and my hair would be greasy. If I've been exercising (rare!), it's been horribly hot or I'm on a very heavy period day I will shower again in the evening.

Liverbird77 · 15/08/2020 08:21

Every morning usually. At the moment, at almost four weeks postpartum, twice a day because I want to make sure stitches are clean.

Some people can't fathom that some people just don't need to shower every day, and because they think they smell if they don't, that must be the same for everyone.

I've met people who smell at lunch time, that have had a shower that morning... I know this because I've asked them outright. Turns out they completely forgot deodorant. So the theory that lack of daily showering is the only reason for smells is just a fallacy.

MNers are weirdos when it comes to showers.

I still don't know how MNers absolutely positively know when someone last had a shower... Confused

eurochick · 15/08/2020 08:29

This question only seems to be a thing on MN. IRL everyone I know over ten and under 70 showers or bathes daily.

As for the French, I used to live there and in the summer I walked miles and miles to avoid using public transport as the smell would make me heave.

SerenDippitty · 15/08/2020 08:34

@misschoices

Everyone doesn't shower everyday! It also doesn't help my partner who does and comes straight out of a bath smelling awful.
Has he seen a doctor? He could have a long standing fungal infection.
Suze1621 · 15/08/2020 08:35

At least once everyday - extra if I go swimming (often) and a quick cool down shower when it is so hot

Penguin007 · 15/08/2020 08:35

@0010001

You kindly included my quote, which did in fact mention deodorant and clean clothes as well as showering.

Thanks for underlining my point.

00100001 · 15/08/2020 08:39

🙄

Some people just don't need to shower every day, despite what MNers think they know about showering (and deodorant/clothing) habits.

Sorry.

Jellybeansincognito · 15/08/2020 08:41

Every day.
Always curious to know when people say they don’t shower every day but wash the smelliest bits daily?

How do you wash those bits without showering and why wouldn’t you just wash the rest if you’re washing the stinky bits anyway?
Sounds a bit lazy to me?

Thehop · 15/08/2020 08:42

Morning and night more on a hot day.

eaglejulesk · 15/08/2020 08:43

Why wouldn’t you shower everyday? I’m always shocked (and disgusted) when I read these threads - just shower everyday like a normal and clean person.

Oh do get over yourself.

Jellybeansincognito · 15/08/2020 08:43

‘Some people can't fathom that some people just don't need to shower every day, and because they think they smell if they don't, that must be the same for everyone. ‘

Just because someone doesn’t smell, it doesn’t mean they don’t need to wash.

ClementineWoolysocks · 15/08/2020 08:49

OP why are you with a man who smells so gross to you? How can you be attracted to him or be intimate with him? That just sounds awful.

I shower every day because I like to feel fresh for the day ahead.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 15/08/2020 08:50

Every morning. Without fail. And in the evening too if I've trained.

epythymy · 15/08/2020 08:53

It depends what I'm doing. I'd say 5 times per week on average. If it's the weekend and I'm not going anywhere that day I might skip a shower. In the winter I might not bother now and then if I've not gotten sweaty. In summer I'm sweatier so shower a bit more.

It takes much less water to wash the bum hands and face than to have a full shower

Are you really saying you wouldn’t know how to keep yourself clean if you didn’t have access to a shower?

I shower daily out of habit more than anything. I don’t believe it’s actually necessary to do so to be clean and socially acceptable. My DH showers once a week, washes daily, uses antiperspirant. He always smells good to me. He’s not very sweaty.
