To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

Downstairs every day, upstairs every other. The dust and mess would bother me too much to leave all week.

fascinated · 14/08/2020 18:53

Than god scrimshaw. I wa genuinely horrified at my apparently slovenliness. I cannot be bothered with housework, honestly, if you’re not getting ill and it looks ok why bother?

PettyLittleThings · 14/08/2020 18:55

Before EUFY: once a week month

After EUFY: Daily

Namechangr9000 · 14/08/2020 18:55

I do hall and stairs more often than anywhere else but certainly not more than twice a week. The kitchen floor get swept with a broom at least once a day, sometimes twice, and everything else gets hoovered when I notice (which was quite regularly when I was doing Joe Wicks workouts that involved sit ups and less often now that i'm not!)

Staffy1 · 14/08/2020 18:56

Once a week. The robovac is also sent round during the week when we remember, or things get really noticeable. It's no enough really, ideally I would do it every two or three days.

PettyLittleThings · 14/08/2020 18:56

But not the stairs, aim for once a week but probably more like once a month. No toddlers. No pets. One tidy teen and me.

winetime89 · 14/08/2020 18:57

I've got two kids and a dog and a messy partner. There is constant crumbs even when they sit at the table they get traipsed through the house. partner also comes home from work and eats loads of biscuits and cheese and leaves a mess everywhere so I vacuum downstairs once a day, the kitchen can be several times of sweeping up as there constantly eating, the dog also gets food everywhere when it eats,
bits of all sorts appear in their bedroom too so the bedrooms get done every day.
the only thing that doesn't get cleaned daily is the bathroom as I've just given up on it and have a mental block to the mess that is caused in there several times a day.

Alderaan · 14/08/2020 18:57

Every other day is the minimum I can get away with here. We have two cats and two dogs and if we leave it any longer, the laminate becomes a carpet. It's a right pain in the arse.

DuchessAnnogovia · 14/08/2020 18:57

I have to hoover daily. I have a border collie who is shedding hair like mad. I'm surprised that with the amount I hoover up he's not balding lol

fascinated · 14/08/2020 18:59

If it is partner dropping crumbs and mess then surely that partner should be cleaning said mess? Why would you stand for that?

Wilsonscaresme · 14/08/2020 18:59

Down - daily.

Up - weekly.

speakout · 14/08/2020 18:59

winetime89 I sympathise
My very messy mother lives with me- she makes a sandwich and walks around the house while she eats it- never uses a plate, and leaves the crusts on the arm of the sofa.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/08/2020 19:00

Yanbu.

I doubt we have ever hoovered more than once a week unless there was some disaster or we were expecting visitors.

Upstairs can go months without hoovering in this house.

Please don't worry about it op.

Wishimaywishimight · 14/08/2020 19:01

No kids or pets - probably every 3 / 4 weeks.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 14/08/2020 19:01

Ha! Really, I ought to have staff. Am still a bit pissed off that nobody has offered me any. In the meantime, the bigger the dust bunnies the easier they are to kick down the hall.
winetime89 · 14/08/2020 19:02

@fascinated
he works 13 hour days 5 times a week then comes home and takes the dog out then has tea and helps put the kids to bed then it's (his) bedtime.

Having said that it still annoys me he makes a mess but I've given up with whinging and just get on with it and clean it up.

fwwaftp · 14/08/2020 19:04

About two or three times a week - normally coinciding with people coming round...
When my ex was here he made a mess constantly and I still stuck to two or three times a week as it was so disheartening to hoover and then have him mess the floor. And then he kept telling me expected me to get up every morning before him and hoover so that the place was clean for him in the morning. I told him where the hoover was and to then go and fuck himself.
And that was one of the many times we broke up....

I think someone who is vacuuming three times a day is either a) lying/exagerrating b) has very messy family members/lots of pets c) some issues relating to cleanliness (eg. genuinely OCD)

hollyandkit · 14/08/2020 19:04

I quite fancy a roomba but we have so much stuff everywhere. Do they get into most nooks and crannies?

dollypops15 · 14/08/2020 19:05

I'm mad for the hoover. I do downstairs and upstairs daily. Then do downstairs again at the end of the day after an afternoon if 3 children bringing in alsorts. Can be more if they spill food or things. Easier than anything being trampled into my carpets and rugs

Arthersleep · 14/08/2020 19:05

You only vacuum twice a week??! You slovenly mare! Everyone knows that it should be done hourly! God, remind me to never come round to yours for a cuppa. I suppose that you only dust once a week too! 😉😁

RunGinSleepRepeat · 14/08/2020 19:07

At least once a day but I have a crawling baby

JacobReesMogadishu · 14/08/2020 19:09

Once a week.

I probably did it more when kids were young and sat on the floor. Now everyone sits on seats a bit of fluff is less Of an issue.

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 19:09

@RunGinSleepRepeat that sounds fancy, like a climbing rose 😆

Bluntness100 · 14/08/2020 19:09

The cleaner gives it a thorough going over weekly throughout the house and mops the downstairs floors and bathrooms etc.

I hoover downstairs once a week also. I clean the rug downstairs about once a month or every six weeks. We have no pets, but when we had a dog i hoovered every other day and cleaned the rug every week.

Dirt and dust gets trapped in carpets and rugs and you walk it in, so if you don’t hoover them regularly then they start to build up dirt. And smell.

gincakecomps · 14/08/2020 19:09

Once a week! No pets. Dust pan & brush in kitchen daily.
