To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

I hoover twice a week or extra if there's a need. But I live on my own and I'm incredibly tidy and clean.

If I had family, pets and children I would be vacuuming every day to get rid of the pet hairs. But then, I wouldn't have house pets anyway....

2020iscancelled · 14/08/2020 18:40

@BadEyeBri

In terms of 3 times a day - I have a cordless so I grab it off the wall mount and it takes less than 5 minutes to run around my lounge / table / hallway / playroom

I’m not moving the sofas 3 times, it’s a quick hoover over, honestly 5 mins tops.

I do it after meals usually because young kids are messy soda

2020iscancelled · 14/08/2020 18:41

Sods*

imhereforthesanity · 14/08/2020 18:41

God lord, I confess I'm an every few weeks...... I feel a bit scuzzy now though, reading that people so it daily!

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 14/08/2020 18:42

Once a fortnight or so

Shmithecat2 · 14/08/2020 18:42

@BadEyeBri, lol, don't be sorry! I just can't relax if I think something needs doing. I'll often get the cordless out just to do one bit and then I think, well, I may as well run over the whole place whilst I'm at it. I am a SAHM, and ds is at preschool, so I guess I have time!

SquigglePigs · 14/08/2020 18:43

We have a cleaner so the whole house gets hoovered/steam mopped once a week. I will likely either wipe round the edges of the kitchen floor or use our little hand held hoover in between if needed (we have a toddler and I can be a bit of a messy cook sometimes) but otherwise once a week is fine. If we had a dog I think it would need doing more often but just humans is fine as is.

LockdownQ · 14/08/2020 18:43

Twice a month 🤷🏻‍♀️

Never looks/feels dirty and I've got hard floors!

JellyFishSquish · 14/08/2020 18:43

Pfft. Don't have pets at the mo (last aged one died just before lockdown) and no kids at home anymore. Happened to vacuum today. Don't remember the last time! Maybe last month? Spend most of our time digging in the garden so don't feel too guilty. And I have relaxed my standards since it is just us, after all. Nobody else comes in the house so I can be a messy bint, no worries.

NewCatMummy · 14/08/2020 18:43

Upstairs weekly, downstairs every other day now the kids are older, was daily when they were small. Cats, kids and dh constantly in and out of the garden trampling dirt in.

BritWifeinUSA · 14/08/2020 18:44

Daily. Two adults. No children. One Husky. One-story house so thankfully no stairs. I’d reconsider doing it daily if I had to do stairs. I’d rather stick pins in my eyes than vacuum stairs. Hate it.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 14/08/2020 18:45

Before children once a week

After children but before dog 3 times a week

After dog everyday

Nopenotsureigiveahoot · 14/08/2020 18:45

Ever since I bought a Dyson handheld, I use it downstairs at least once a day (often 2 or 3 times), I take it upstairs twice a week before bed and have a quick whizz in the morning before I come down for breakfast.

I have found that since doing this, my eczema, hayfever and constant sneezing has reduced!

invisibleoldwoman · 14/08/2020 18:47

I hoover as necessary which isn't very often. I rarely do the whole house at a time. Just rooms or bits of rooms as and when. It is just me and DH though, no pets or children.

CMOTDibbler · 14/08/2020 18:48

3 cats, 2 dogs. Someone sweeps once a week downstairs, maybe twice. I can see a bit of dog hair on the floor, but who cares? Its not filthy or a health hazard, and anyone in the house who feels like it needs to be cleaner knows where the hoover/broom/mop is and can use it.
I'm not houseproud at all, and tbh can't really get my head around it

Malaya · 14/08/2020 18:48

I hoover downstairs at least twice a day but often more. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats and 3 dc. It gets messy! I hoover every morning and before bed regardless but then usually run the hoover during the day if I see too many crumbs. I have a cordless and it literally takes seconds.

Upstairs I hoover twice a week. We have a no pets and no food upstairs policy so it doesn’t get as messy. I can sometimes get away with once a week upstairs!!

FeloniusGru · 14/08/2020 18:48

Once a week and we have a toddler and a cat Grin I don’t like hoovering, it’s DH’s job. Occasionally I’ll have a little go round to get bits up with the little handheld one but not often.

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 18:48

All these whizzing hand held vacuums are giving mine a complex. It remains fairly resolutely stuck to its charging thinger on the wall. I'm glad to see that I'm at the midway point of the minging scale. I'm not sure which direction I aspire to more

I think if someone is hoovering 3 times a day they probably have a problem. I have dogs and used to hoover every day when the kids were small, but now they don’t play on the floor anymore it’s more like once a week. Life is to short to worry excessively over a few crumbs on the floor.

Pesimistic · 14/08/2020 18:49

I vacuum upstairs twice a week, down stairs every day, 2 times a day sometimes !

TatianaBis · 14/08/2020 18:49

I don’t do any hoovering, the cleaner does it all twice a week. Lockdown was painful from that POV.

Devlesko · 14/08/2020 18:50

Upstairs once a week, downstairs daily.
our house gets dusty quickly old Edwardian.

2bazookas · 14/08/2020 18:51

Depends on household. When we lived in the sticks with lots of children, dogs and cats running in and out all day, the floors needed a lot more cleaning. Now there's just two of us, smaller place, no pets, more sedate lives, floors stay cleaner far longer. One vacuum a week is plenty (unless we've been doing something messy )

fascinated · 14/08/2020 18:52

Is this because of shoes indoors? Surely if no shoes indoors and no pets it can’t possibly get v dirty ?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 14/08/2020 18:52

Once every two months although actually only when someone is visiting.
