To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

Most rooms get a vacuum about twice a month, although maybe more if it looks like it needs it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Quackersandcheese3 · 14/08/2020 18:08

Everyday or at worst every second day.

emptycup · 14/08/2020 18:08

Pre DC and hairy dog i hoovered a few times a week. Now it's twice a day and the hoover picks up a good amount of fur every time!

SadSoVerySad · 14/08/2020 18:09

What's wrong with once a month or when I feel I can be bothered! 😁

IvanTheDragon · 14/08/2020 18:10

We have a baby and a cat and it’s usually a couple of weeks between hoovers, sometimes three. After a couple of weeks outs does really need doing.

aureliacecilia · 14/08/2020 18:11

I vacuum twice a day but not the whole house at a time - usually just the kitchen on a twice daily basis and a spot clean everywhere else. I have two cats that are prone to pulling out tufts of fur and I'm just unable to leave it lying there on my carpet, as it looks really untidy. I would not vacuum this frequently without cats. I do a proper vacuum a couple of times a week.

Just seen you've got pets.

IMO if you have pets or children then daily

Anything less, especially when you've got pets, is gross.

SadSoVerySad · 14/08/2020 18:11

@DappledThings

Couple of times a month maybe.
Glad to see I'm not the only one 😁

We have a cat and have just bought a second robot vacuum cleaner. We do downstairs every day and upstairs about once every 10 days or so.

I bet you're someone who thinks missing a days shower is also gross?
sitckmansladylove · 14/08/2020 18:14

I vacuum once a day (the kitchen dining room- we have sofas here too)
It really needs it. Also quick mop. Hard floors. All the dust shows. Crumbs. Muck from the garden.

In winter when we are out all day I would only do it every other day and dustpan around the dining table.
3 times a day i can understand after every meal with toddlers etc. But not the whole floor ????

Lockdownseperation · 14/08/2020 18:15

I used to do it once a week and now I have a toddler and a preschooler I hoover downstairs daily.

RiseUpWiseUpEyesUp · 14/08/2020 18:15

Once a week and we have four cats Blush it doesn’t get that hairy tbh, and I sweep the kitchen daily. I despise hoovering with a passion.

I just bought a new Henry pet and he’s always getting stuck on things are glaring at me with his smug face.

Emma1962 · 14/08/2020 18:16

Everyday at least once. Kids & dog trail crap about the house. 🙄

riotlady · 14/08/2020 18:16

We’re also a few times a month! We have hard floors though so sweep every other day or so. One toddler and two cats.

DappledThings · 14/08/2020 18:18

@SadSoVerySad Fist bump for you in solidarity! Grin

Alittleodd · 14/08/2020 18:19

So much lol at the "only" in the OP.

If my cleaner comes then once a week, if not then when I notice/it gets annoying. Dog spends most of his days in the kitchen so I sweep that more regularly I guess.

House with 5 year old child, cat and dog. Probably could be done more often but tbh I feel there are more important things in life.

hazandduck · 14/08/2020 18:20

Oh god these replies. I used to be one of you once a weekers, but I now have a toddler and 6 month old and they are just crumb and crap creators, I sweep and am on my knees with the dustpan on the hard floors about 50 billion times a day 😭 Upstairs is gated off thank fuck so I only need to hoover the carpets every few days but the upstairs bathroom needs a daily sweep (white tiles show everything!) We also have the most minging thick pile rug in the sitting room that I thoroughly clean every couple of days but it still just builds up so much crap; stickers and baby puke and Wheetabix crumbs.

I’m very jealous of the infrequent hooverers 😂

Shmithecat2 · 14/08/2020 18:21

@BadEyeBri was it me in the other thread?

Yeah, I do vacuum that often. I've got 6 cats and a 4yo, plus we live in the ME, so a fine covering of sand at any time of day. We also have tiled floors throughout, and I cannot sit down if I can see dust/sand everywhere. I'm just not comfortable. And with a cordless, it's so quick and easy to do.

SmackTheMackrel · 14/08/2020 18:21

Once or twice a day. I have a roomba and also a handheld dyson stick and I just really like my home looking its best. It takes literally minutes a day so why not? I relax much better when my house is as I like it

Sparklesocks · 14/08/2020 18:23

I think different people have different standards. But also it’s important to remember people have different circumstances - eg if you’re a single parent working flat out then there’s sometimes just not enough time to hoover every day. Or maybe you’re disabled, or chronically ill. People should do what works for them.

This is my life. I’ve just bought a new thing rug for the living room. It’s easier to hoover but the shag pile hide all the dirt.
Illegitiminoncarborundum · 14/08/2020 18:25

@TheMumblesofMumbledom

Hahaha! Yes, I am exactly one of those. At least one shower and wash my hair everyday and I cannot not do it. I've tried, but I just can't!

lifesalongsong · 14/08/2020 18:26

Life's too short to worry about how often other people vacuum their houses, seriously, who cares?

Do what the hell you like, no one's keeping score.

BertNErnie · 14/08/2020 18:26

I have a robot hoover. It hoovers downstairs daily on a timer, it's taken upstairs to hoover bedrooms and I then hoover the stairs and hallway once a week.
